Dolphins Gameday Thread

What can I say? Our contention for the AFC West title increasingly hangs in the balance with each passing week. It's up to Gradkowski and Company to make something happen, and to put last week's debacle behind us. Go RAIDERS!

Well, some folks aren't going to like this, but while the QB discussion is moot, the WR one is not.

Look at Ford making big plays, often from imperfect throws, like that 44-yard TD grab.

That's the difference a high-performance receiver can make. Glad we finally have one.

If we take out the "KR" for 7 we have only 10 pts generated by our "O"...3 of which came from the "ST"s....

Reasonably I don't believe a "PO" appearance is in our future this season...The table was set for us but we have failed to take it...

Sad but unfortunately the reality we now face...

Whatever you think of Campbell, he would have completed several of the same passes Grad missed. It's not like Grad didn't have plenty of time to complete the ball today. That's the guy I remember with Tampa Bay: poor arm, mistimed throws and a stalled offense. And some of you thought this guy was exciting? Sheesh. Campbell played some damn good games this season, and he's the best we have right now. Until we get someone better, it's not a moot point. Campbell, when healthy, is by far the best QB we have on our roster. He'll win more games for us than Grad ever can. Shit, Grad is one of the worst QB's I've ever seen as disguising plays. No wonder the running game hasn't worked under him. Frustrating, but we're far from where we need to be as it is. I sure as hell lik the way we were playing when Hue and Campbell were working together. Time for Al to get rid of Cable. The guy doesn't have the intellectual capacity to be a head coach in this league. Al Davis: always slow to adjust. Time to wake up.

No question Gradkowski was awful today.

IMO, if they are going to throw deep no matter who’s the QB, they would be better off playing Campbell. The Raiders simply don't know how to use their personnel.

Nevertheless, nothing in this game changes the fact that Campbell played horrific last week in the face of a strong pass rush.

Neither one of these guys is the answer.

And I wonder why is Boller a #3 on this team. Does Boller have a chance to supplant either of the other guys? If not, we should have kept Colt Brennan.

The Raiders simply have no options at QB, now or in the foreseeable future.

Ford’s play absolutely reaffirms that having a good WR(s) is critical. He stole another INT today, and went after that TD pass in a way that no other Raiders' WR would have.

If Ford's play doesn't prove it, then how about Bess? He burned Asomugha on more than one occassion.

The only play I saw DHB handle the ball he went wide on a reverse that looked to have an opening if he'd cut up the field sooner. The guy simply is not a player.

Anyone notice that Walter McFadden replaced Ware as the Nickel back? McFadden was burned time after time. Ware was inactive.

At the end of the day, the Raiders simply can't win unless they can run. This falls on the O-line and the playcalling. Both have to get better.

4:44 PM
Blogger x said...

Who knew one of the keys to the game would be: Jeremy Ware - Inactive?

This team is baffling. To go from over 500 yards back to back to 180 and 260....and defense was pushed around again.

Where's that Bess guy from again? I hear his agent said the Raiders showed no interest in him. Too bad. While the JaMarcus experiment put the QB position on the Raiders back 5 years, the DHB pick appears to have done the same with the WR position. Well, at least they're not starting him anymore.

Very disappointing performance. And at home against a team missing their best offensive weapon. Not much to take out of this one except that Ford is a player.

It's a damn shame that the Chiefs didn't copy our four year (or was it five, six, etc.) rebuilding plan.

Re: "CB"...

I posted before that may be a need but didn't expect this...Where was Stanford Routt who had awakened early on in the season...How did we let a rookie 5-6th rd pick spoil what little was left of our hopes...Why was McFadden even on the field...I simply don't know...

Nmamdi gave up one catch to that "UDFA" "WR" for a minimal gain so can that damn crap...And it was the blitz that continually put our "DB"s in jeopardy...Not sure what the hell we were playing but it seemed like some sorta fucked-up loose coverage zone with 2 defenders and the rest on the rush...The pathetic part is the heat still didn't get there against a gutted "OL" playing injured...Just like last week...Our pass rush was very inconsistent even when we were blitzing like mad dogs...

That was one of the reasons our "D" failed to keep us in this game...The other was getting tired and gashed for huge rushing yardage and the score...Put that on the "O"...

Our miserable "O" was worse than pathetic...Let me count the 10 ways...

#1...No Run Blocking
Net Yards Rushing 16yds

#2...No Pass Protection

#3...Short Dieing Passes

#4...Passing To The "DB"s

#5...Horrendous Gameplan Against strong rush

#6...Third Down Efficiency 2/9 - 22%

#7...Fourth Down Efficiency 0/2 - 0%

#8...Red Zone Efficiency 0/1 - 0%

#9...Time of Possession 18:22

#10..Fumble + 2 Int's As "TO"s

As noted there one lone positive plus I will add 4 honorable mentions...

Ford..."KR" For "TD" + 4/108yds "TD"

Honorable mention:

Murphy 4/73yds
"D-mac" 7/63yds
"DeathRo" Int
3 Sacks 2 By "DB"s

The "Goats" of the game:

"Ski"
Walter McFadden
Marcel Reece
"OL"
Rush "D"

After two losing seasons, the Chiefs cleaned house and hired a new GM and head coach.

A year and a half later, that new regime has notched seven victories--a total we have yet to match in 7+ years.

Last week, you were twisting my arm to call Al Davis "owner of the year."

Well, what does that make the Hunt family?

Right now, we look weak at QB, weak at WR, weak at O-line, and really hit-and-miss on defense.

No bueno. After all of these years, still so much work to be done.

Yes. Their front office, coaches and roster. All of the above.

After hiring a GM and HC, they brought in a franchise QB and added players like Chris Chambers, Mike Vrabel, Thomas Jones, etc., while cutting veteran players like Donnie Edwards, Damon Huard, Patrick Surtain, etc. They have drafted well, including in the trenches, and added a star DB in Eric Berry.

Funny how the slightest recognition that the Chiefs might by on to something has drawn criticism from the minute they hired a GM, yet the Raiders don't seem to make measurable progress.

We still need a QB, C, RG, RT, WR, etc, and after the day Walter McFadden had, I can only imagine we'll be drafting more speedy CBs next April.

Nice try but falls well short of the reality...Their roster was in NO way as depleted of talent and willingness to perform the way ours was...Now you are arguing against yourself if you attempt to deny that as a FACT!!!...

Culture...Right...It had to be removed before we could even play together like a half way normal football team again...That was a drastic undertaking NOT a simple replacement series...

We turned over 80-90% of our roster they did NOT!!!...

They did NOT rebuild that roster after the "08" season...They simply added to it while deleting a few like most NFL teams go threw...

They made a change in their front office at GM and he made changes at "HC" who than made changes in his staff which all appears to be paying off...They are simply knocking on the door NOT knocking the damn door down...Most likely they will fail and sit out with us while "SD" goes to the party again...

Similar to what the Jets did...Brought in Madden -n- a new "GM" and a new "HC" and they are almost knocking that damn door down but not yet...

Gary hit the nail on the head...

Go wear "Red-n-White" if the "Silver-n-Black" sickens you so damn bad...

Nobody here is rooting for the Chiefs. It's simple observation; no more, no less.

It's often said the NFL is a copycat league. Teams copy business models and coaching systems in hopes of duplicating their success.

An appropriate thing for the Raiders (and we as fans) to do is to dissect every team in the league and discuss how each system may be exploited to some how help the Raiders.

Davis has always prided himself on being an innovator, not a follower. The problem is, there isn't much innovation in using the same system and coaching methods that date back to the 70's.

While fashion may be cyclical, the NFL doesn't seem to be. Another losing season should be a wakeup call... be will it?

The biggest difference between KC and Oakland is at the QB position.

The biggest reason we don't have a QB is because the franchise QB we drafted liked purple-drank and the millionaire lifestyle more than working to be a QB.

So its not like Al didn't TRY to fix things... any team in the NFL that drafts a QB number one overall and he turns into a flop is going to have some work in front of them... SD had many seasons of failure recovering from Ryan Leaf.

As much as RT pounds his fists on the ground wanting a SB team YESTERDAY, he will either have to learn some patience or, like I said... become a fan of a different team.

JaMarcus Russell set this franchise back 3 years, not Al Davis.

BTW... there's an interesting conundrum right now for the Al-haters... Al's guy Campbell got benched for Gradkowski and he stunk too... so now who do they blame? Nobody (besides JC) likes Campbell... and you can't blame AL for playing him... so what to do now? Ohh... start looking at other franchises... and blaming Al for not being as good as they are.

Onandon indeed...

Nope, but I did expect nothing less than that.

Hopefully, the Raiders will win at least three out of their next five to reach that milestone.

Gary, you seem perplexed by the notion of holding a GM accountable for the quality (or lack thereof) of the talent he has assembled.

You also seem perplexed by the notion of Raiders fans being impatient for a winning team after 7+ years.

You also seem perplexed by the difference between TRYING and DOING. Everyone is trying. Not everyone is doing.

1st at the "UDFA" "WR" from own back yard when we already had our small 5'10" Nick Miller so why would we have even gone there...So Miami found a gem that 32 teams overlooked during that draft...Now that's Al's fault...

Hell this seasons draft landed us Ford in the 4th and all I heard here was how we didn't need another speedy "WR"...Now they want to crown him poster-boy of "WR"s and say that's an example of what should have been done...

It seems to me that 4 weeks ago, the Raiders did beat these mighty Chefs.

And 3 weeks ago, these mighty Chefs were giving uo 49 points to the Donks.

Yes, the Chefs have responded since, and the Raiders fizzled.

But the reason, I think, is the Raiders got away from what made them so successful during their 3 game win streak, Donks/SHawks/Chefs.

The Raiders need to use a spread offense, getting everyone involved early, and often.

Example, Marcel Reese. This guy was running in the open field against the Hawks, like Gale Sayers.

But where has he gone ? Why has he all but disappeared from the offense ?

And the running game. The Raiders are back to an old bad habit of, if the run is shut down early, give up.

They cannot do this. Again, Mcfadden, and Bush cannot be allowed to disappear from the 0.

Raiders have to keep at it, and the holes will eventually open for runners to exploit.

Say what you want, but the Raiders, IMO, are clearly better then Miami.

Unfortunately, they've retreated into becoming their own worst enemy again.

Or Vick instead...

Now for the ultimate "Wild Cat" I would have Vick/Vince behind "C"...

WoW!...Would that ever throw them a curve...But that's just too much dreaming to be real...

Vince or Vick would be perfectly suited for our run oriented "O" and both have good arms to get the ball down field...

Raider00...

I'm trying but it's difficult to keep faith starring at "JustCrap"s dumb looks -w- a hot "SD" in our face...We did it before yes but now we be fading and they be hot...

Marcel Reece turned "Goat" this week...1st he had the pick right in front of him and never tried to break it up or tackle the bastard...Than he dropped the ball with the 1st hit going into the line...Also if his blocking was picking up the blitz I surely didn't see it...

In the winning weeks there was always a player to step up and do something spectacular...The last 2 weeks we have had someone step down and do us under...

Against Pitts it was "JustCrap"/Zack/Murphy -n- our poor pass rush -n- run "D"...

Against Miami it was "Ski"/Reece/Walter Mcfadden -n- our rush "D" and entire "OL"...Especially on the right side...Little Jacoby Ford could not overcome the defiance in support...

I didn't put "D-Mac" in there because nothing was open for a running lane...He was hit deep in the backfield so could never get it going...But he did make plays in the passing game the few times the "Q" had his eyes open...

This week will someone step up our will we just step down again and walk out with our shoulders hunched and heads down...

PR,

Mcfadden had 18 total carries in past 2 games. That is not going to cut it.

The Raiders have to keep giving Mcfad, & Bush, the ball. They cannot abandon the running game just because it doesn't work in the first quarter, or half.

Marcel Reece is a young player. He is going to make mistakes.

But the Raiders have got to find ways to get him the ball in open space.

Did you see the S-hawk game ? Did you see what Reece is capable of doing ?

Keep getting the playmakers the ball, and eventually, good things will happen.

The Raiders, mysteriously, have stopped giving their playmakers the ball.

There are going to be bumps in the road. There are going to be struggles.

The Chefs lost a heart breaker to the Raiders. Then got smashed by the Donks. They regrouped, and bounced back.

The Raiders must do the same against SD this week.

Q: There is a perception that Bruce is your guy and Jason is Al Davis’ guy. Could you address that?

Cable: Anyone who would think that would be very foolish. This is about winning football games. Period.

Q: Why not disclose the QB change last week?

Cable: It was not about that. I think I told you from the very beginning that when he’s ready to go 100 percent he would be. Had you asked me Wednesday I would have told you. But you didn’t.

Q: But we asked Friday about pulling Jason, questions obviously geared to Jason starting, you said nothing?

A: How does that really affect though what went on in your world?

Q: In my world?

Cable: I think this. If you have a personal issue with it it’s your issue with it, that’s OK. But it’s my job as a coach to do what I think is right. Had you asked me, I’ve always told you guys the bottom line. That’s that.

Q: But it seems to be affecting the locker room, guys not knowing who the QB is?

Cable: I just met with them and I didn’t get that feeling at all.

In plain damn English...

What the fuck do you know about our locker-room???....

I agree completely but why...

Did the Raiders forget they have good weapons or did the "QB"s simply take a shit in the middle of the freakin field...

#1...The "OL" has totally sucked the past 2 weeks...

#2...The "QB"s have totally sucked the past 2 weeks...

I would assume everyone else is pretty much dependent upon what those two units do...

"WR"s/"TE"s/"RB"s-n-"FB"s don't throw to themselves...

"RB"s-n-"FB"s don't open their own holes...

Granted there have been a few balls that should have been caught...Zack/Murphy...But all too often it was under thrown...late...off target...to the wrong team...

Ford made spectacular grabs again this week but didn't do squat the week before...

Just imagine if you will what these guys could do with a quality "QB" -n- a consistent "OL" in front of them...

"D-Mac"
Zack
Reece
Murphy
Ford
"DHB"

They have all had damn good games this season but far too often they have been illuminated due to piss poor play in front of them or at "QB"...

Also injury has played it's part...Zack/Murphy/"DHB" have all been slowed of late...There goes half our weapons and also "D-Mac" was down for a spell too...

I'm tired of beating the media. We need to beat the Dolphins, etc.

Cable's postgame conferences could be coming to an end if he doesn't lead us to victory in three of our next five games.

Don't think Mr. Davis is going to be too pleased if we rack up another losing season.

Well look on the bright side...

If the Raiders implode we don't have to worry about losing Hue Jackson to some other team as their new "HC" anymore....

Well then, I guess Cable had better win the next four out of five, otherwise he'll have presided over more than two and a half "losing" seasons in Mr. Davis's eyes.

Got home late last night from a family vacation in Ixtapa, Mexico and I'm just now catching up on the Miami game. From the few articles I read, these are my basic observations:

* Ski was never the "answer" nor should have ever been considered a real solution to our QB dilemma.

* For the 2nd straight week, we were manhandled on both sides of the line.

* Jacoby Ford is a legitimate playmaker who needs MORE opportunities to make a difference.

* We neglected our basic blue print of offense which is to use the run persistently and consistently to open up the passing game, win the time of possession battle, and set the terms of the game.

Make no mistake. This loss was a major set back in regards to our team's level of confidence and ultimately to our fast fading playoff hopes.

This upcoming Chargers game is basically "do or die".

Anyone still pimping the DHB experiment should put down the bong and get real.

It appears that the only teams we can beat come from the West divisions.

AFC West: Chargers, Broncos and Chiefs

NFC West: Rams and Seahawks.

We are toast against everybody else.

I'm totally dazed and confused by this team.

Look on the bright side...

Years past we couldn't win a game in the AFCW let alone anywhere else...

5 games left and we have already matched our finest record of the past miserable 7 losing seasons...

For a brief spell we had hope which is more than can be said for anything in recent memory...

We are perhaps only a few players shy of being for real...

We have continuity and stability for once if the damn "Mediot"s would just accept it as such and quit pimping Cable's execution by Al Davis for not playing his appointed personnel...

WoW!!!...That's 5 positive things I couldn't post before!!!...

"CJ"....

Anyone still pimping the DHB experiment should put down the bong and get real.

Now let me see...If memory serves me correctly that's about the same things you said about "D-Mac"/Huff/Kelley/Gallery/MM/Routt or anyone else who has taken time to develop like Nmamdi did...So I guess "DHB" is in real good company Huh!!!...

Was this a fluke or related to "QB"s

Week #2...
L. Murphy 6/91yds TD
D. Heyward-Bey 6/80yds

Week #3...
L. Murphy 5/119yds

Week #8...
D. Heyward-Bey 5/105 TD

Week #9...
J. Ford 6/148

Week #12...
J. Ford 4/108yds TD
L. Murphy 4/73yds

Note that in all the other weeks these players put up shitty ass #'s to say the least...Never the least bit consistent....

Note also that both Murphy -n- "DHB" have been slowed by injury...

Now who are you pimping here...

Ford who shows up one week and is totally non-existent the next...

Murphy....Same issues....

"DHB".....Same Issues....

You missed the game...That's a shame cause little Jacoby Ford looked pretty sick trying to make a downfiled block when he was totally out-maned...

All 3 have shown a degree of talent yet all 3 are NOT the same...

Ford has a gift to fight for the ball and go get it despite his small size...

Murphy runs good routs and usually has good hands...

"DHB" has the size/speed to be the deep threat but also a very physical blocker...

They each have their own gifts and each have their own flaws and each have their own place in this "O"...

The key here is a "QB" that can consistently get them the ball...

As for the deep pass...As with the last few games it dies or is grossly off target...Same Sunday...Once to the "DB" not Reece...Once to the "DB" but Ford took it away...Rarely is there a good deep throw on time on target...

PantyRaider...I Don't Support Your Personal "HateTrip" Of "DHB"!!!!/_

Add this to Week #3...
D. Heyward-Bey 3/49yds

Week #5...
L. Murphy 2/61yds

That's as good as the rest of the "WR" stats get....Unless you like 2-3 recs for 25yds...

Vince Young doesn't get along with Jeff Fisher, period. I think that shows more to Jeff Fisher than it does Vince Young. At UT, Vince was a standout under Mac Brown, who understands that VY isn't going to respond to an "in your face" coach, like Fisher is.
This is the 3rd time, he and Fisher have let their issues slip out on the field.

I think VY would be a different player under a coach like Cable, or even Hue Jackson. Jackson is a fiery guy, but in a competitive way. Fisher is like Finnegan, he does it do be an instigator, and wants to get under your skin. It's different to have a coach who is fiery, but willing to work with you to become better (like Hue), than to be fiery just to get under your skin to try and get you perform better. Some people respond to that, and some don't. VY doesn't respond to that.

With that said, it is no secret that Al wanted VY, but no one was willing to trade with the Raiders (even though the Texans could've traded down to #7 and still picked Mario Williams). But the Titans got VY at #4, and we took Huff at #7. I think this is a good chance for Al to get his guy, and stick it to the Titans. Who do they have? KFC, and Rusty Smith, who doesn't look too good.

Here are some other QB's (Outside of Vick and VY) that I wouldn't mind seeing on the Raiders:

Troy Smith (Baltimore)
Kellen Clemens (NYJ)
Dennis Dixon (Pit)
Donovan McNabb (Wash)

Here are some WR's that could help our young core:

Davone Bess (Mia)
Mike Sims-Walker (Jax)
Santonio Holmes (NYJ)
Brandon Stokley (Den)

And don't forget that Zach Miller is a Free Agent too.

Well, we are seeing 8-9 in the box on first and second down... and zone blitzing for the rest of the season.

Pitts set up a "blueprint" to beat the Raiders, its now Cable's and Jackson's turn to be creative in beating it. As you saw Sunday there is going to be man coverage on the corners... now we just have to get fucking QB to beat it (Hint: THROW THE DAMN BALL BEYOND THE RECEIVERS, NOT BEHIND THEM).

Grads can't do it, Campbell can only do it when not blitzed... I'm about ready to see if Boller can.

It should be a bread-and-butter pass for any NFL QB... single coverage deep... but for some reason its the hardest pass in the NFL for any Raider QB... maddening considering how much investment we put into "stretching the field".

Any of the top 10 QB's would be lighting up the scoreboard with single coverage on WRs every play... 8-9 in the box should have a QB SALIVATING... we just have QBs without a clue (or without an arm).
