Alive and Kicking for Kickoff

That's right, my friends, Raider Take is alive and kicking, if only barely of late.

Yes, it has been ages. Life events and other pursuits have taken me off my game for the past nine months, but I still love the comments that you all contribute here, and I'd like to bring a little oxygen back into the room in order to rekindle some of the old conversational fire for the 2017 season.

I don't have a big take right now. The Chiefs look like the team to beat in the AFC West this year. For the Raiders, it all comes down to defense. We'll know soon enough if they've turned a corner on defense, or if they'll continue to get gouged to the potential derailment of what looks like a strong playoff run.

Carr is primed to take flight, and the offense should soar with him. Just gotta return to nasty on the other side of the ball, and if that happens, watch out, because here come THE RAIDERS!

TAKE!
It is definitely good to hear from you, I was concerned. I'm glad it was life events and other pursuits, and not health issues, that kept you away. I can rest easy now. :)
I agree with you that the Chiefs are the team to beat in the AFCW. I knew it wouldn't take long for them to be a power house with Andy Reid as HC.
Raiders are having issues to begin the season. Melifonwu is on IR, he was suppose to lineup in LB position to stop TEs. Janikowski was place on IR today, so he is out the next 6 weeks. Special Teams and Defense are the main concerns for me as we go into the season. Still did not pursue a MLB, so I guess we will see if Marquel Lee is up to the challenge, while Perry Riley, Phillip Wheeler, and Sio Moore are available.
Defense is going to determine what kind of team we will have. We all know the offense is stellar, but defense has to make stops. JUST WIN, BABY!!

Welcome back RT!

Another season upon us, fans, who have been soooo patient. The offense looks loaded for bear, but the defense remains a big concern. Raiders fielded the 26th-rank defense last year around the defensive player of the year. How is that possible? Mack and Irving combined for 18 of the Raiders 25 sacks.

It would be easier if you could point to one area and say, fix that. But you can't. The entire D, including the coaching, has underperformed. I want to give Norton a pass during his rookie season, but Del Rio should have been there. Maybe he was, it was just bad.

Mario Edwards, Jr. back at his old form would boost the run D, and maybe create more pressure up the middle. The pass rush has to be better. Biggest concern is still LB, against the run and in coverage.

I think the Raiders and Titans match up pretty well. As it often does, it may come down to which team wants it more. As I said before, the Raiders looked incredibly flat during preseason. Yeah, I know, it's preseason, but the entire team needs to turn the switch "on" and at least match the intensity of their opponent.

Hard to believe the year went so fast, and here we are... Week 1

GO RAIDERS!!

Thanks for the welcome backs, gents! I really appreciate it.

That was a decisive victory against a potent offense on the road. Everything was clicking. Great start to the season!

Great to see the Defense come back in the 2nd half and start shutting them down. I was worried this was going to be a shootout.
A great win to start off the season. When was the last time the Raiders won their opener in back-to-back seasons? Let's just say, it's been awhile! RAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIDEEERRRRRRRRRS!!! JUST WIN, BABY!

Great win against a tough team, at their house. Thought the game was solid throughout, save some familiar gaffs in TE coverage...; also, what was up with three straight passes to Cooper 1.5 yards out? Didn't the Raiders learn anything from Seattle? Otherwise, Todd Dowling had a nice rookie outing as OC. The fake end around screen was sweet.

Newhouse may be a liability to an otherwise stellar O-line. Even when stacked on the right side, the Titans stuffed the run to that side at the end of the game. And was it Newhouse or Alexander that gave up a sack?

Exciting win to start the season!

NY, Alexander gave up the sack. Although, neither played stellar. I wonder if covering for Penn at LT, changed Newhouse's mentality at RT? TE coverage is going to kill us. But I will tell you, pressure from the D-Line was tremendous! Edwards Jr, Mack, Vanderdoes, and Adams did a nice job. Irvin's name was pretty quiet. I'd like to see Antonio Hamilton in to cover TEs, and Carrie on the slot.
The major adjustment that I liked was Nelson over the top to help Sean Smith, who replaced Carrie after being burned in the first half. That was the biggest surprise to me today, was the adjustments on defense after the half. Kudos to Pagano for that.
Off to a great start, let's continue to build on it, and JUST WIN, BABY!

Interestingly, I don't think the Raiders did anything Sunday that would prompt them to rush out and sign a LB. Overall, the day was a success, even on defense. Seems they lack pressure at times, and there were some badly blown coverages, but the results kinda speak for themselves. Titans are a good team, who many project to win their division.

Raider Take is Back as are the Raiders themselves! We'll just have to wait and see how we stack up against KC. Strangely enough it was the offense that underperformed in the two loses last year. My money is on the Silver & Black in '17!

Hey Guys I am digging out after the hurricane, house intact and finally got my power back. Sitting inside listening to the wind howling I got a text from a buddy at 4pm saying the Raiders had won and it carried me through the storm lol. Never got to see the actual game as power was out and I had a little more on mind.

Seems like we need more edge rushing to compliment Mack getting triple teamed, what are your thoughts?

Beat Mode seems like a brilliant signing as he not only runs well but is one of the few guys in the NFL who can change the psychology of an entire team and intimidate opponents.

All the best
Sandy

Pride & Poise, great to hear from you!

Sandy, glad you survived the 'cane without too much damage. Beast Mode was crushing it for sure. We definitely need to make sure Mack isn't neutralized, need guys to step up and direct some attention away from him.

Thanks to all of you for sticking around here, this should be a fun season!

Sandy, glad to hear you made it through the storm. Now take the next 150 years off... Let's hope it's another >150 years before we see another one like that.

They don't call the guy Beast Mode for nothing. He runs violently. It's the opposite of McFadden, or even Murray, who is big and strong but could never move a pile.

I just wish the dude would stand for the NA. Our veterans are too important and have made too many sacrifices to be disrespected in any way.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your kind wishes and Take glad to see you pop your head up and keep the good fight alive.

How long has it been since we could all sit around on a Friday and confidently look forward to a Sunday afternoon of pleasure and assured victory. Not trying to jinx just making a point about how truly far the Raiders have come.

Have a good weekend

Sandy,
Glad to hear you are well my friend. I pray you and your neighbors don't have damage of any kind, but if you do, I hope it is minimal. Its been a tough hurricane season already, and there may be a few more before it's over.

On a happier note, I coach my son's flag football team, we are the Raiders (for the first time). So I've got the kids chanting "Raaaaaaaiiiiiideeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrs" as our team cheer, and when we gather: "Just Win, Baby on 3". It's awesome! Hope we do the team right with wins. Awesome times.

Sunday's game should be a "W", but I hope we don't overlook the Jets. Our schedule is too tough to be overlooking anyone, but if there is a game to overlook it's this one. Can't afford to play down to our competition, we have to truck through. Let's hope the defense has another stellar game. Word is we may see Conley make his debut as well. JUST WIN, BABY!
