Chargers Gameday Thread

Pride is on the line today. There's reason we can't beat the Chargers today, because we did it earlier this season. It's time to snap this miserable losing streak and regain some competitive flair. GO RAIDERS!

I.e., unless, of course, we're intentionally throwing games to improve 1-2 slots in draft position. In that case, some here might be rooting for the Chargers.

Regardless, let’s hope the Raiders can avoid another colossal embarrassment.

For me, today’s storyline is McFadden coming back to salvage some marketability before he hits the free agency market. I’d give him a 50/50 chance to finish the game...

I don't think any Raider fan is cheering for the Chargers...but don't let that get in the way of some good picture painting, HUH?

I don't think the fans want loses, the point was, they might be playing down to get a better draft position. That was the point, never said that is what they are doing or never said that I wished that was what they were doing...but don't let that get in the way of your masterpiece.

I think the rest of the world knows the Raiders situation, it isn't an embarrassment as much as Raider fans still crying about it. The world knows that the Raiders are short handed, and if you don't, then you are either a Chargers fan are really dumb.

McFaden is the past, he is a good representative of that past...he needs to go away.

McGloin reminds me of a 'Dalton'(Cincy) type Qb. If he can learn not to try and thread the needle so much and be more careful with trunovers...this kid could be decent. Jennings looking good, Rivera, Steeter, Holmes...it's a new look O that needs to gel and get a steadier O-line. Bring in some more quality talent and this O could be decent next year. This does not mean that bringing in more bodie at Qb is not an option...of course it is.

Once the Raiders get a couple of Dlinemen that can get to the Qb, that will help the D bigtime. Better Cb's, 1 more good S and more beef in the Middle. 1 or 2 more quality OLB will also help bigtime. The starters on D, most of them really aren't. The talent really needs to be upgraded on D.

So it's all about the draft, huh.

The draft tha brings us Hayden, Watson, Bergstrom.

Are these the cornerstones of the future ?

And what is DA's pre game speech ...?

Play hard, but not too hard.

Go half speed, and give 49% effort.

try to win, but please don't.

Nope, no embarrassment here.

Just the Oakland Waiters...Waiting.

No, it's all about the draft, FA's, tons of cap space, a HC that now has 2 years under his belt, an Org that can now play along with all the other teams....

I read a good quote, it said, the Raiders are in a a Nascar race, they have a 6 cylinder while all the rest have an 8. Raider fans are screaming WHY haven't the Raiders been in the race? You tell them that their car only has 6 cylinders...the fans scream NO EXCUSES....LOL....just STFU and watch what happens this offseason.

IF Reggie messes it up, IF Allen can't get a team of decent talent to win...THEN their heads can roll....cutting their heads of because they only have a 6 banger....NOT LOGICAL, but what do you expect?

Tackle Tony Pashos thinks Allen and 4-11 #Raiders are closer to turning this around than you think, for 1 reason:

“Our guys fight to the end and that, honestly, is 80 percent of it,” Pashos said. “We have some of the best and hardest-working coaches, and the players haven’t fractured. Part of building and growing something is that it takes time.”

Jingle Bells, the defense smells, DA laid an egg...the McGloin mobile lost its wheels and the 2013 season got away. Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good night.

Hey RT, know it’s a hot topic heading into the offseason so here are a couple of thoughts regarding the leadership in place today.

No one could argue that the talent on the Raider roster is anywhere close to elite but since we're trying to evaluate for the future...

Two tools for measuring the capabilities of a coaching staff are the team’s performance in the 2nd half of individual games and then the 2nd half of the season. In other words, do we get better as the game and the season progresses? These are the areas where adjustments are made based on evaluations of who you are, what your capable of, and of course what opponents are doing. These are typical measuring devices that reflect strongly on a coach’s ability.

Logic says its probably one season too early to make final judgment on DA and his crew. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that this club has been completely outplayed in the 2nd half of a number of games this year... Was 14-0, KC 17-0, Pit 15-0, Phi 21-7, NYG 10-3, Dal 17-3 and SD today 16-3. That’s 110-16 over those 7 games. Yep, 16 pts in 14 qtrs of football which typically decide the outcome of the game.

As far as the improvement (or lack thereof) as the season progresses? DA and co. is 2-15 from November on. Probably 2-16 after Peyton comes to town next week. Sadly, those two wins are over KC (last year) and Hou (this year) who finished a combined total of 4-28.

There have been arguments regarding a lack of depth and players wearing down. I'm sure that's happening but to what degree is uncertain. At some level the coaches have to be responsible for developing the talent as time passes... not getting worse relative to everyone else.

I have no doubt the roster will improve in the offseason... but I'm afraid it might be wasted under the current staff and we'll be back to the drawing board come 2015.

Think we will seriously consider making a move sooner?

5er, you summed it all up nicely.

All winnable games and Raiders come out in 2nd half, and do nothing.

And once calendar turns to Nov., again nothing.

I feel like Raiders are where Donks were with Josh Mcdaniel.

Bright young coach, but 2 tough yrs. Stay the course, or turn the page ?

Odds are, Raiders won't find another P. Manning out there.

But still. M. Davis, Reggie, & DA, took over an 8-8 team, and things are getting worse, not better.

I think Allen gets one more year. His coordinators, however, I'm not so sure.

I think the defense has definitely regressed in the second half of the season. I put that squarely on Tarver. He should be the first to go. Wade Phillips will probably be gone in Houston, let's pick him up as our DC. This guy is top notch as DC.

I'm not sold on Olsen as OC, but he did do a better job than Walsh. The offense hasn't faired much better though. Still one half wonders, but the wheels fall off in the other half. Here lately, it's been slow starts that have hurt the offense. Yesterday against the Dunder Dolts, we couldn't get anything going; or finish what we started.

With that, and the fact the Offense lacks some major talent in the O-Line; I say get some O-Line help (Veldheer, Oher, and Mack) and a few other keys, like a #1 WR; and give them another chance.

I still think McGloin has an upside, and I would like to see him get that shot to develop as a QB. If we get a vet QB, we are going to have to trade for one. I don't see too many options in trading for a QB.

Next week, we should win because I don't think Manning will play. We'll see, I just hope we can knock the wind out of their sails because the only way to make this season worse is the Doncos winning the Super Bowl.

JUST WIN, DAMMIT!

Retaining Tarver was in question last year too. It's a tough call because it's impossible to measure how much is coaching and how much is lack of talent.

Continuity is important. So I still believe GM, HC and top assistants should stay in place, i.e., unless of course Cowher, Gruden or some other top level HC is brought in... which is highly unlikely.

At some point real soon, the current regime of management and coaching will have to own the Raiders fate 100%. So it should go without saying, the margin for error moving forward has to be razor thin.
