One Postgame Take

Back, by unpopular demand: The Clown Car. I thought about firing it up after the Chiefs game, was really tempted to do it after the Broncos game, and now there's no stopping it.

I actually didn't see the game, and judging by the comments here, I picked a great time to miss my first Raiders game of the season. I was on the road, tuning in when I could via radio, and each time I dialed the game up, the worse it got.

Because I didn't see it, I don't really have a detailed take, so I will defer to those of you who actually saw it (starting with the understandably exasperated commentary on the game seen in the earlier take).

After the Bears game, I said that it looked like Michael Bush's legs might be tired. Now I'm reading this courtesy of Steve Corkran: "Raiders coach Hue Jackson said earlier this week that he didn’t see any signs of running back Michael Bush wearing down as a result of 84 carries the past three games. On Sunday, Bush looked nothing like the player who amassed 530 yards rushing in place of injured starter Darren McFadden the five games before Sunday. The Dolphins held Bush to 18 yards on 10 carries, with a long of 3 yards."

And what's up with Richard Seymour? This is the second season in a row that he's been ejected from a game, and earlier this year he completely lost his composure against the Patriots. For a young team that's trying to turn the corner on a culture of undisciplined behavior, it's unhelpful when the star veteran on defense is prone to going bonkers.

Meanwhile, it's time to put the Tebow jokes to rest. Not only does Tebow have "scoreboard" on the Raiders this year, he has helped lead the Broncos to an improbable tie for the divisional lead. At this point, the Broncos are nothing less than a viable threat to thwart our playoff aspirations.

The Clown Car is sputtering down the road tonight. Let's just hope the wheels don't fall off.

About as bad a game as they could play. Clueless on D zero pass rush and unimaginative on O. With no outside running threat, Hue should have come up with something other than trying to set up play action or hope for a long run with a bunch of off tackles to Bush. Two TEs like the pats? Dropped balls by Boss don't help. The vikes gave the game to the Jesus mules but it is what it is. The disciple leads the John fox (wont forget what he pulled) led Jesus mules to the division promised land unless the bully gets here quick.

The O-line, which had been solid most of the year, suddenly looks weak. Barnes was a mess yesterday and Satele is absentee in the middle.

For such a big guy, Bush really struggles to protect his QB on blitzes.

Can the Raiders be the only team that beats GB this year? I think it's possible but they will have to put yesterday behind them and play their best football.

First off, Tebow has more swagger than most defensive dudes. Those who elected to bag on him early were pantywastes, and there is no room on the TeBus, which sealed it's doors once it left 7 weeks ago, back when I was waiting for this to happen. Mocking success is typical Clown car, and the polar opposite of Tim Tebow is Richard Seymour. The Raiders will likely go 8-8 this year because the Clown car is, I agree, at the tailgate. When Tebow leacves the NFL with his head high to pursue bigger things, we'll see where the crybabies are, and where they are not. What a fun season. The Raiders smell like mediocrity again, and if they don't lose the big shoes and orange wigs 9yes, I said Orange) wigs soon, they, and their minions are toast. As for me, I will, along with The Take, throw credulous smack upon the naysayers who are like squatters. Complain, complain complain. I see a team that has the talent to squash Green Bay, but the temperment. Sorry. Full-on CLOWN. Regroup Raiders. Get a vitamin Tebow shot and move on. Their defense actually Defends, and they find a way to win.

Had a bad cold all last week and over the weekend. The game didn't help either. Even one of Dr. H's Smoked Porters didn't help.

We are not playoff worthy yet.

Seymour shouldn't have gotten himself ejected, but I can understand his frustration. Incognito was holding and other stuff all game long and not getting called. He also cheapshotted McClain on a play. Fortunately, he got caught on that one.

It used to be in the NFL that you could take care of those things on the field if the refs weren't calling them. But, now you get called for standing up for yourself.

Miami was playing better, but not that much better.

Everyone talks about how we have one of the best D-Lines in the league, then suddenly the Miami O-Line looks like the the Old Hogs from the 80's playing against Slippery Rock. Something doesn't compute, or maybe I just had one too many Porters.

On the Tebow front, I've no problem with a guy being open about his faith. My problem is with the media making themselves all-Tebow-all-day channels and *trying* to hack people off with it, rubbing our noses in it, etc.

There were a whole host of problems with the game yesterday, leading up to a perfect storm of clown car proportions. I think number one was Bresnahan's play-calling. Number two was poor reffing--they neutralized both our Dline *and* Oline by judicious timing of calls and non-calls. Number three was some sort of mental dullness that was team-wide, but seemed especially heavy on Carson Palmer. Dude was spectacularly off all day.

The fish played "keep away" with the Raiders.

Fish had ball for 38 minutes, compared to 22 minutes for Raiders.

Fish pounded ball on ground with 44 rushes, and ate up clock, while Raiders defense was helpless, again, to stop run.

I'm tired of brow beating Raiders every time they come up with a stinker, which is all to often.

They must now win 3 of last 4 games. They can, but will they ??

I anticipated some match-up problems along Miami's lines. However, I didn't anticipate bad coaching would go along with that. Really poor game planning on both sides of the ball... although, it's tough to game plan around stupid penalties.

The Raiders might not have as severe matchup problems along the lines facing GB, but Aaron Rogers poses a huge problem for the Raiders secondary. The Raiders have been torched by much lesser QB's this year.

The Giants stuck with GB on Sunday, and somebody has to beat them this year. So why not the Raiders! Raiders have been know to bounce back after a bad loss.

My take: The Raiders have been building and tweeking and struggling to improve for nine years. After marked improvement last year, the expectation for this year has always been playoffs. That hasn't changed.

If the Raiders want to lay down and let a less developed and less talented Broncos team beat them out for the division then they probably won't be any better next year either.

In terms of advancing in the playoffs, anything can happen. I can remember a wildcard team winning the Super Bowl.

Now is not the time to talk about next year. Playoffs! Now!!

We saw signs of this kind of brain-fart play calling last season with Hue. To be honest, I expected more games this season that way.
I think he needs to focus on being the Head Coach, and let Saunders call more plays. Raiders have a knack for losing games they should win; and winning games they should lose. This season is no different.

If we are going to beat Green Bay, we need to run the ball, and eat the clock. We have to find ways to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field, and we have to score TD's, not Field Goals. Bush needs to have his A-Game on Sunday. We need to try more "Spread Offense" plays in the Red Zone; especially within the 10 yard line. Why not spread the field with a single back, and then have the option of play action, and better running lanes? This is what made Gruden-Callahan successful.

Defensively, we need QB pressure. I'm not worried about GB's running game. If we can't get pressure on Rodgers, he will pick us apart. I think the only team they've played that runs a strong 4-front, while the DBs play man is this last week vs. the Giants; and they almost pulled it out.

I hope D-Moore is able to come back, we need him on Special Teams and WR. I think Carson and he were starting to get in a zone with each other when he went out.

I do think this is a winnable game for us, I just don't expect to. Especially the way we didn't play on Sunday. I hope this is a wake up call for us, and I hope our team sees the possibility of not reaching the playoffs; enough for them to start punching opponents in the face again. WAKE UP GUYS, IT'S GAME TIME! JUST WIN, BABY!

Wow... I got down to "Oak Town's" post and then I remembered why I quit reading this forum again.

Is he a Tebow fan, or a Raider fan? Hard for me to tell... looks more like a Tebow fan... knock yourself out bubs! Just don't expect me to join you while sucking a 50% career passer's cock.

I agree with RT... Bush's legs look tired and slow. This makes all the yahoo's saying we should trade McF and keep Bush look even more ridiculous. We need McFadden back!

And if Hue is purposely babying him for the play-offs... he is not going to make it as a NFL coach. This is a mans game, and the purpose of the NFL is to MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. We are now in the position of having to win 2 of 4 to win the AFCW (Denver and OSB's butt-boy Tebow are not winning 3 of 4).

This is not possible with a humungous RB that cannot hit a hole (or run outside.)

Palmer did look off at Miami... but cmon... the people he had to throw to weren't even starting three weeks ago... how many QB's can lose their three favorite targets (remember everyone bitching that DHB was benched after Palmer arrived) and not look a little lost? The only game Palmer looked pro-bowl was vs SD, and he didn't complete a single pass to Schillens or DHB. Those are now his only two receivers. Its not as easy as it looks folks...

Especially considering this should be like game 2 of the season for Plamer... most QB's would be just coming out of training camp in week 7.

The clown car is not the only ride for the Raiders. We WERE once one of the top offenses in the NFL with McFadden and a full lineup of receivers.

Nobody remembers this?

Nobody remembers we were just on a three game winning streak 2 games ago?

Gary,

It sure is a problem when Raiders have more stars in trainers room, then on field.

Are these guys too hurt to play, or just soft ?

Raiders defense sure looks soft when it comes to stopping the run.

Miami pounded 44 rushes for 209 yards, and held ball for 38 minutes of game.

Raiders offense spent most of game watching from sidelines.

A big "if" at this point but nevertheless ...

If the Raiders can establish a robust rushing attack early and often and maintain it for 4 Qs, the Pack can be beat.

The fact is that the Pack are horrible in stopping the run giving up 4.9 YPC and ranked #29 in the league.

A mix of creative, diversified run plays and short passes to Bush, Reece, and hopefully T. Jones to move the chains, control the tempo, consume clock, and keep Rodgers butt on the bench is the best and probably only way the Raiders come out on top.

If it is a pass happy shoot-out, the Pack win handily.

Not for sure.

Depends on which two teams they beat, and which two we beat.

If we beat SD and KC, and they lose to KC and anybody else... we are in with a 4-2 conference record.

The tie-breaker after that is common opponents, and that could be anything right now.

Fer instance, if they lose to Chicago, we beat them.... etc etc... plus if we beat Det, they lost to them.

Right now the only advantage they have is 3-2 in division, and they beat Mia and KC while we lost to them.

This is not over.

We for sure have to beat both SD and KC, IMO.

BTW... Chicago's defense is perfect to manhandle Oak Sts butt-boy Tebow.

They can stop the run and have the secondary to not get burned... I think Chicago beats Denver.

No WAY can Den score enough to keep up with NE.

The only way we win is with Taiwon Jones to mix it up outside.. Bush has rarely been good at outside runs, and looks slow even on the inside.

Corkran said it too... his legs look tired.

If he is our only back again... the game will be over early.

Hue should GAMBLE and stick Jones in regardless of health if he is waiting for McF to be 100%, IMO.

This defense is tough to figure out... the games we stopped the run we won, but when they didn't WHOA BOY do we suck at it.

I am hoping the good run defense shows up for 3 of the final 4 games.

And McFadden healthy for 3 of the final 4.

If those two happen, we sweep the final three games, perhaps easily.

"The QB must go down, and he must go down hard". That's the key in GB and was why Miami was a debacle.

No pressure on the QB.

Trevor Scott has been invisible all year. The injuries to Shaughnessy and Moss hurt maybe more than all the DB injuries. Maybe Moss gets back for GB. Houston looks diminished this year as well.

On offense, sometimes teams just collapse the middle of the Raider O-line and it seems to always be when Satele is in there. Wiz and Heyer seem to be a stronger option. Satele is scrappy but just gets overpowered too often.

Oh, and McClain appears to be an idiot. Take wrote that he "put himself in a stupid situation". If the police reports are correct and he pulled out a gun and shot it next to a dude's ear like a worthless thug, then he was the stupid situation. Just hope the guy doesn't end up being our JaMarcus on defense.

Gary,

I agree that it would be nice to have T. Jones to add a different look and outside threat.

I also think it is important to give Reece 3 or 4 important carries to keep the D honest. Did he even have a single carry vs. Miami?

Although I agree that Bush has probably been over-worked, I will say that we have faced some very tough interior DLines in Min., Chi., and Mia.

The real question is how good are GBay at stopping runs between the tackles? Judging by the Giants game and their season stats ... not very good.

I firmly believe with good playcalling and top notch performances by the OLine and Bush that 2 and 3 yard carries become 4, 5, and 6 yard plays.

Using the no huddle and short, safe passes on 1st down, and runs on 2nd down would be a way to manage the game and keep the OLine on the field.

What it really boils down to in my mind are 4 important things;

(1) Hue calling the type of game where the Pack's run D is exposed. This doesn't mean running 3 straight plays between the tackles but it does mean sticking with a creative rushing attack and still taking selected shots down the field.

(2) Getting off to a fast start and playing the game with the lead in order to keep the rushing game fully in the equation.

(3) The Raiders run D playing stout

(4) The Raiders D creating sacks, turnovers, and dynamic plays.

Gary, sir, one should be a football fan before selecting a particular team. Tebow is beatin' Palmer in the win category, and you'd be speaking otherwise if Oak had won six of the last seven with him, but, FACT, my Raider defense would have mathematically prevented that MIRACLE too. Perhaps OAK players could gut check off our comments, rather than the hoopla crap. That's what gets Oak in trouble in the first place, third quarter false swagger. I dread being up by 14 at the half, because they go to the locker room and soak in it. But, truth be told, that's why I'm a Raider fan who keeps it real, they are fun to watch win, and lose. Drama. Perhaps if I were a Bronco fan... right now I look at him as a less talented Vick... he is winning most of these games on his FEET... and because of the Bronco DEFENSE. If the defense wasn't playing so well he would have won what? 2 games so far? Perhaps one? And everyone would be talking about who they should get to replace him.

Sorry... not swallowing anyone that completes ten passes a game in the NFL.

You can knock yourself out though..

I do wish the Raiders defense was playing as well as the Broncos... that would be a legitimate point... not sure what football fan would think Tebow has anything to do with that.

Their DC and two stud players are getting it done.... they are winning DESPITE Tebow right now... Palmer would have just as many wins if only one player was here MCFADDEN.

BTW... Palmer is 3-2 as a starter.

Thats close to a playoff percentage usually.

Their quickness outside makes it tough even if T. Jones plays... but I think just the THREAT opens the playbook up. Teams post-McF have figured out we have nothing outside so all they are doing is clogging up the middle and playing off our receivers.

That was impossible with McF because he was torching everyone on the outside...

He was our MVP. This team doesn't make the playoffs without him.

Gary - I hope you're right, but I see the Bears as totally imploding since Cutler went down while the Broncos are riding a wave of sustained success. Two teams going in exact opposite directions.

Plus, I don't have the Bears stats handy, but I seem to remember reading their run defense as being suspect. Tebow could get 20-25 carries in an option offense that the Bears have not seen.

Put it this way, I'd rather the Raiders were playing Da Bears as opposed to the Packers this week.

On a side note, I refuse to spend $250 for a single share of the Packer's fake stock!

Last week, and here on out, is why it was so important for the Raiders to win. We CANNOT take any team for granted, and that is what we did against Miami.
If we lose to Green Bay, and the Donkeys win against Chicago; that will knock us out of the playoffs. We have to win out and root for the Donkeys to lose 2. We cannot end the season tied with the Donkeys. They will most likely lose to New England, but we will have to root for Buffalo (on a slide), and KC (on a slide) to beat them to keep our playoff hopes alive.

OK, I am still leaning into seeing the Oaks beating Cheeze and making history and pissing off the entire NFL by racking up touchdowns and penalties, I'll call it necessary roughness. We'll see what happens, and I will not throw props if Aaron Rodgers does what he's capable of. It's just not proper here. It's like talking about scurvy on a pirate ship... sheesh you guys are sensitive... KaPow!

Rodgers is what he is...Damn good and prolley too much for out "D" to handle...Our "O" has to win this one for us with only half their roster healthy...

I don't have a problem posting I wish we had Elway back when or Moon...Quality players are quality players but some are just not welcome in the Raider Nation...Like Brady after that "Tuck" rule and now "T-Bowne" after all this "BS" religious crap!!!...

Is there any Raider fan who wouldn't like to have Rodgers in "S&B"???...

Aside from that why would any of us pimp another team from the AFCW???...But it has been done here and done repeatedly while bashing our Raiders...Now in retrospect that Pimping is rather foolish!!!

"Polio -n- Haily will dominate the Raiders"!!!...Ya Right!!!

"McDaniels will lead that "Donkey" to the promised land"!!!...LoL...Now that was stupidity!!

"SD" will do anything other than fall off the cliff...Who'da thunk??

So now it's how the gods are blessing "T-Bone" while leading that "Donkey" to the promised land...

PantyRaider....Just more tripe!!!/_

I Challenge that penalty!!!

It very well applies to football ever sense the damn "Mediot"s and religious fanatics and the freakin NFL went on a "God Saves Tebow" campaign...It just goes to illustrate the inherent ignorance of people who believe in such outright stupidity and than go about pimping it!!...

For these fools to believe that a Lunar Eclipse is somehow wielding some magical mystical powers over their trivial freakin lives is the exact same type of ignorance that make one believe the Gods are watching football and choosing the winner by blessing Tebow!!!

Same-Same whether it be from the west or the far east...Same damn religious ignorance!!!

Zebra: Upon Further Review...Challenge Upheld No penalty On The Play...PantyRaider Will Not Be Charged A Time Out!!

Not a big fan of stats but we're certainly far enough into the season that there may be something meaningful.

On paper, the Raiders have done well to run the ball and sack the QB.

On the other side, the Packers are the #1 scoring team in the NFL, and they have the most INTs. Apparently, they have an opportunistic defense and an offense that makes good on those opportunities.

Gameday!

Go Raiders!!
