Bears Gameday Thread

I'm pumped up, getting this thread started early. We need to take advantage of breaking opportunities (see Cutler's thumb) and get way out ahead in the AFC West, because we've got some tough opponent on deck. The official march to the playoffs starts NOW!

I like Bush running it 25-30 times vs. the Bears D. I also think TE Boss is capable of a huge day vs. their safeties and LBs in the passing game.

The Bears D is a good, experienced overall unit but are nothing special when it comes to stopping the run.

As a matter of fact, the Bears give up 4.9 yards per carry which is ranked #30 in the league.

Veldheer vs. Peppers will be a key matchup.

Go Raiders!

As the word goes we will face Tebow's shadow this week playing for da Bears...Or a least a plan has been unveiled that that's their intent...

"Check this out. NFL.Com's lead story "Against the Grain" go to 2:10 where Chicago divulges their plan to Tebowize Hanie"

@ 5.0 in the 40 I doubt he have much to be concerned about but he does appear to be elusive in the pocket according to this preseason video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o305q5kMaI

Sounds rather desperate on the part of da Bears if this really be the case...Scrap their "O" for a whim??..They must really lack confidence in their "QB's ability to beat us threw the air...

Keys To This Match-Up??

Playing for an injured Cutler, Hanie led the Bears to two touchdowns and finished 13 for 20 for 153 yards with one TD and two interceptions. (2011 "PO" Loss)

Forte is tied for the league lead with 11 runs of at least 20 yards, while Oakland has allowed an NFL-worst 15 such runs.

The Bears might also be able to move the ball simply by Oakland's mistakes.

The Raiders have already committed 17 defensive personal fouls this season -- more than double the total of 29 teams and most in the league since the Chiefs had 19 in 1998.

Bears will be challenged by powerful, fast offense

Veteran Carson Palmer quarterbacks a Raiders offense that possesses a rare combination of power and speed with bruising running back Michael Bush and a host of lightning fast receivers. Oakland ranks 10th in the NFL in total yards, third rushing and 19th passing.

In Oakland’s last four games, the 6-1, 245-pound Bush has rushed for 99, 96, 157 and 109 yards while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Filling in for the injured Darren McFadden, Bush has had 30 rushing attempts each of the past two weeks in leading the Raiders to wins over the Chargers and Vikings.

In winning their last five games, the Bears have permitted an average of 17 points and 56.8 yards rushing while producing 15 takeaways. But the unit generated little if any pressure on quarterback Philip Rivers in last Sunday’s win over the Chargers, failing to record a sack despite facing a depleted San Diego line that was playing without three starters and a top reserve.

In his last two games, Palmer has completed 31 of 43 passes for 463 yards with three touchdowns, one interception and a 120.6 passer rating.

The Bears have fared pretty well against other top-10 offenses this season. While they’ve lost to the Saints (1) and Packers (4), they’ve defeated the Eagles (3), Panthers (5) and Chargers (8).

OK!!...I'm Back!!...Logged Into My Other E-mail and forgot to get out of it....LoL!!!

This:

The Raiders will jam the interior with at least eight defenders and make the Bears throw to beat them. And until Hanie takes advantage of that scheme, Chicago’s remaining opponents will all follow suit. Oakland’s front is fierce and it won’t be comfortable for Hanie. General Manager Jerry Angelo told me that Hanie has looked comfortable in practice and his familiarity with the system and the players works in his favor, but nobody knows how he’ll react come showtime.

Calico,

Don't know why folks don't run more on the Bears. Almost five par carry, but they are ranked 11th in the league in yards par game.

Veldheer faired well against Allen, so he's gaining confidence.

I think Chicago jumps out early and teams are passing more to try and come back. Their pass defense is ranked 30th in yards par game. In total defense we an Chicago are virtually identical. Less than one yard difference.

The big difference is in the return game. Hester has been giving them excellent starting position.

We need a good game from special teams. Especially on kick and punt coverage. McCann did a good job returning kicks last week, but he was released by the Cowgirls because he had a problem fumbling.

Probably will be another close game. So they need to take care of business at home. Also the Dolts could help us out too.

It will also help if Seymour can get into the rotation a little more.

Note to Jackson: Your top three for today's game:

Bush
Boss
Reece

Raiders have finally hit paydirt with Veldheer at LT. It only took like 10 changes, but it was worth the wait (an Al Davis draft pick!).

Today and looking ahead, the Raiders need to be more stout up front on the OL. Satele seems too soft in the middle. Moving Wiz to center on a more perminant basis should be a real consideration for Jackson. He has options at G.

Huge opportunity today!

May game plan on defense would be to bring the heat on Hanie (blitz on passing downs), and play zone coverages to protect against the run and look for INT opporunities.

Go Raiders!!

On passing downs, if Chuck is going to straight rush 4, have a freakin spy on the QB. 3rd week in a row that a QB is running out of the pocket and picking up big yrds. Wr's are very poor today, no fight for the ball and half assed routes. Palmer is not liking Murph and Shil..... Defensive adjustsments will make or break the 2nd half. O-line is getting manhandled today, D-line needs to get pressure or this kid will pull it off.

Mr. Davis is ringing true this year...Just Win Baby, they keep finding ways and it's good enough...if they keep winning. Bears are a physical team, Murphy comes up big and so did Chaz, DHB contributes. Saw a couple of times though, when Palmer was really staring him down for running improper routes. Palmer wants him to cut it off at the sticks, DHB goes 5 yrds past the sticks and blows the timing. He still seems so raw. Bears QB made plays, but they stopped them when they had to, that's all that matters.

Give DA Bears' defense credit. Twice inside the 10 they hold is to a field goal. If those are TD's this game is a blow out.

Satele cost Bush a chance at 100. Bush had a run of around 20 callied back because of a hold. Bush was already past the first down marker when Satele grabbed the guy. He might lead the leage in holding for a center.

Well, Hue said his piece with the league, and look what happened. Six flags for only 44. Right about where I predicted.

On Knox's 80 yard reception in the fourth. The pass was near perfect. The coverage, while not super tight, was pretty good.

All in all, it's a win. But, the defense gave up too many big plays again.

One quick comment on another game.

Let's be honest about the Fighting Tebows. They are 5-1 since he took over. In four of those wins the most the defense has given up is 15. Tebow is getting way too much credit for the streak.

Their defense is playing as good as any in the NFL and keeping the games close. The game plan is to NOT rely on Tebow to pass.

But, I'm glad they are keeping the pressure on us. No let downs.

Can't take Miami lightly. They are 3-3 in their last six. The three losses were by a total of seven points. One of those was a one point loss to the Cowgirls on T-Day which means they have 10 days to get ready AND they play at home, in the east and we travel and play a 10:00 PT time game.

Our Red Zone offense needs to pick it up. I don't understand why it is such rocket science to perform and score in the red zone. Hue needs to go back to the Gruden Era playbook, and spread the field in the Red Zone. Carson knows how to run it, did so in Cincy.

The game yesterday shouldn't have been that close; but because of our Red Zone failures, it was. In the end, I'm grinning with the "W" and I'll take it. But if we are going to be Playoff contenders, then we need to take advantage.

JUST WIN, BABY!

Good team win.

Special teams unit was instrumental.

SeaBass (6-6), Lechler (49.2 net; 80 yard punt); punt coverage unit (D.Hester neutralized/non-factor).

Defense played well for 4 quarters.

3 INTs (Routt, Huff, huge Wimbley INT/return that was a 6 to 10 point swing before the half); consistent pressure on Hanie with 4 sacks, 6 pressures, 7 QB hits

Offense struggled in red zone but didn't shoot itself in the foot (1 INT) and made enough explosive plays to earn 25 tough points. The Murphy 47 yard reception was HUGE.

Lastly, penalties were a non-issue.

Panty,

We are in a must win situation now. Last thing needed is to start relying on another team to do the job for us.

McFadden is back at practice, and as much as I like him, my biggest worry is WR's and DB's. The combo of Bush/Reece is doing quite well at the moment. But, it seems Palmer has to get used to two new starters every week at wide receiver.

We need Chris Johnson back. Huff and Branch are coming on at safety, but outside of Routt the CB's have been burned a little too much lately.

Here are my thoughts to how the season closes out for the AFC West.

I think we lose to GB; Detroit to me is a toss up right now, but they may be sliding. They play the Saints next. I think we end the season with a 11-5 record at best, a 10-6 at worst.

I think Denver loses to NE, Buffalo, and KC. Chicago is a toss up, but Denver is going to have a hard time running the ball against them. It's possible they end 8-8 or 7-9. I think 7-9.

KC has Chicago, Jets, Packers, Raiders, and Doncos left. They are currently 4-7, but may end 7-9 as well. I think if Orton comes in and steps up, they may beat the Bears, Jets, and Doncos. Against us, it may be a toss up. Let's see. I think they end the season 7-9, maybe 6-10 let's see what they do against the Bears this week.

The Dunderdolts have Jaguars, Bills, Ravens, Lions, and Raiders left. Currently at 4-7, they may end the year 6-10 with possible victories over the Jags and Bills; but the Bills game to me is a toss up, and I think they end 5-11.

Q: In this copycat league you see anyone stealing what you do with Marcel Reece?
A: I think it’s hard to because I don’t think there’s too many Marcel REeces in this league because he’s different. He can play, he probably can play three or four different spots on a football team. He’s so valuable because he has that ability to move around. He can run with the ball, he can catch it, he can block. You can line him up at different places so he’s a matchup nightmare for most teams. But you have to have that kind of skill to be able to do that and I think that kind of guy is kind of hard to find in this league

Nice time to shine when we need it most with injuries at "WR" -n- "RB"...Reece can do it all...

H has it. It's the Donkey defense that is playing well, not Tebow. I also believe that opposing teams have played Tebow entirely incorrectly. They have played to put pressure on him by blitzing everyone in the house. We also followed that strategy, and it plays right into the hands of the Donkeys.

Tebow is very good at running for his life. He's had so much practice. The Donkeys want teams to blitz, because they know such tactics will only free Tebow to do the one thing he can do. RUN.

The way to play the Donkeys is to stop up the running lanes and make Tebow try to beat you with his magnificent talent as a thrower. Then start racking up INTs.

I agree the way to beat Tebow is to rarely blitz. I'd like to see the Detroit tape... I bet they didn't blitz him much... it should be kinda like covering a punt... just stay in your lanes and let him come to you. The nice thing is the Vikings are supreme at stopping the run. And after that they have Chicago which are prolly already licking their chops at destroying Tebow. They don't have anywhere NEAR enough fire-power to stay with NE. I could see three losses in a row and everyone would be forgetting about him. Plus they still have a decent Buff team to get by, and KC with Orton???

He's prolly already circling that game! I see Denver wining 2 more games at best.

Agreed with the thoughts on Tebow. He reminds me of Elway early in his career. Not many Doncos' fans will admit this, but Elway was a runner first. Not until he got comfortable with how they changed his throwing mechanic did he become a gunner.

They're doing the same thing with Tebow. Tebow is smart enough to know it, and that it is not a knock on him as a person.

I think he will be a weapon to reckon with in 5 years, if he can improve with the changes the Doncos want him to make; and if Elway is not a hypocrite and cuts Tebow before hand. We will see.

PR, I know the Jags fired Del Rio today, but that doesn't change their stout defense. The interim coach was Del Rio's assistant coach, and I think he'll use the same philosophy to finish out. Jags' fans are hoping he tweaks the offense a little more to score.

Raiders go to 8-n-4 with big win over the "Fish"...

"KC" falls to 4-n-8 to da Bears even -w- Orton -n- da Bears "QB"...

"Vikes" a very even match-up with "Tebowncos" and will deliver them the loss because they can stop the run..."T-Bownes" fall to 6-n-6...

Disaster of the week..."SD" @ "Jacks"!!..Strange game to call...Unknown what their attitudes will be coming in so home field and "D" gives it to "Jacks"???..If so "SD" falls to 4-n-8...

Atlanta @ Houston...Gotta give it up to the "Black Birds" in this one with Houston down to their 3rd string "QB"...Texans fall to 8-n-4 in a tie with the Raiders but we hold the edge here...

Cinci @ Pits...2 very good teams but Cinci is out matched in their house and will fall to 7-n-5...Pitts is 9-n-3...

"NE"-Indy...Now worth talking about..."NE" is 9-n-3..

Baltimore-vs-Cleveland...Again not worth talking about Baltimore goes to 9-n-3..

Titans @ Bills...Without their "RB" the Bills fall again and Tenn is 7-n-5...

Jets-"Skins"...Jets move to 7-n-5..

Thus the "PO" picture will look like this...

1st to 4th seed Division leaders:

AFCE..."NE"
AFCN..."Bal"/Pits
AFCW...Raiders
AFCS...Houston

One Wild-Card team still undecided??

Cinci 7-n-5
Jets 7-n-5
Tenn 7-n-5

At the 3rd seed we would be facing one of the undecided teams in the 1st round at home...

Elway says Tebow has what it takes to keep on running

Tim Tebow ran 22 times during the Broncos’ 16-13 overtime victory over the Chargers last week, the most rushing attempts by a quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. And coach John Fox already has said Denver’s read-option attack isn’t going anywhere as long as Tebow is the starter and the team keeps winning.

Which begs the question: Can Tebow continue to handle the punishment that comes with running the ball so many times?

Take a look at those weak ass shoulder pads and hip pads and the lack of protection around the neck and lack of tape to give protection to the arms and such…This is NOT the attire for a “RB” by any stretch of the imagination!!!

Now look at our Bush and compare and tell me how this ASS is going to finish theses next 5 weeks???

RIP First 'n' Five.

McClockton was an excellent DT. However, he had a penchant for jumping offsides while timing the snap. That led to his famous nickname as a Raider.

He cashed in most of his Raider cred during the 1997 season, the last season before becoming a free agent, by running up and down the KC sideline asking them to take him away from the Raiders while his teammates were losing on the field.

Gruden came in in '98 and the team turned around. I think he always had regrets that he didn't stay.

The way to beat Tebow is to score 3 TD's.

That's to big of a hill for even his legs to climb.

"BR"..

I remember those sad partings as well and how he undermined the Raiders in that process...He had agreed to a trade but the Raiders needed to do something to make him a free agent in that process...As soon as that was done he jumped and signed with "KC" giving us nothing out of his loss...

I too think he regretted that move but too late...He returned to this area and was coaching and hanging out with Raider Fans...I never met him but some who have spoke very highly of him...So once a Raider always a Raider and mistakes are forgotten...See Marcus Allan!!!

RIP Chester...Enjoy That Raider Reunion!!!

This sucks for sure but not the end of the season...I would have Tatupu on speed dial or just bring him in now so he will be ready later...

"DeathRo" will be free soon on a $2,000 bail and if his ankle is OK should be able to play this week...No suspension should come unless there's ample evidence of misconduct or a conviction...

I will reserve judgement on "DeathRo" until after we have more details...This could be a sham with some ass trying to make a big payday???...The alleged victim refused medical and went to a hospital on his own but was released...Does not appear to be any serious injury here when the reports says he had to crawl to his car??...Ya Right??...If "Ro" hits you to the point you crawl to your car you be battered!!!...Simply does not appear to be the case...

If a gun was fired next to that dudes ear there would be nitrate deposits on both McClain's hand as well as that dudes head...It will take that type of evidence to make any case here and we have to assume that the police would have looked at this while in custody and also NOT allowed this supposed victim to leave the scene without 1st complying with such tests...If they failed to do this it's a non issue!!!

Just one man's testimony that something happened without support???

so let's hope so panty. we don't need this distraction in the middle of a possible playoff run.

I don't know much about Bama law, but a $2000 bond doesn't seem to indicate this being very serious to their eyes. Especially knowing he works out of state.

I'm pretty sure there is more to this than was has been reported so far.

McClain is a moron wanna-be thug though, regardless.

Typical Jmac buzz in comments "CUT HIM NOW" over a misdemeanor.

I doubt he will even be charged with anything until after the season... and the NFL will have its hands tied until then. I see a 2-4 game suspension next season. I doubt this will impact this year... unless Jackson wants to make an example of him... who knows?

He's not great, but Blackstock shouldn't even be in the NFL...

Aqib Talib of TB was charged with two gunplay felonies and is still playing for the rest of the season... I think we don't have to worry about him not being able to play because of suspension this season.

Plus I'm guessing he is a hero in Hickville Alabama... he might not even be convicted of anything.

gary, he could have been a "victim". again, this is the second time he was involved in this type of incident. the 1st one was in january. he "says" he was shot at from someone on a street corner. really? and this time, there IS the angle that some punk was looking for a payday, then again, why is our 22 year old 1st round draft pick brandishing a gun? if the other guy was starting something, why not get the heck out where ever he was to avoid trouble?

innocent until proven guilty and i do hope i'm wrong but dangit, come on rolando! your team is in the middle of it's 1st playoff run in how many years? and now this?

i'm saying be responsible to yourself, your family and your team. his coach preached that very thing before they left for the bye week.

Gary,

As a person from Hicksville, Alabama, all I can say is we don't know all the facts yet.

Jackson says he comfortable with the information he has. So, I'll go with that and wait for all the facts.

Someone from the jamac blog said the guy was harassing his family for weeks... but I agree with you, there was better ways of handling this.

He obviously has a lot of growing up to do.

I think he prolly needs to do it outside of Alabama.

I bet he doesn't on either count.

Just a gut feeling.

there are ways to handle this. if he and/or his family are being harassed, there's the police, he could hire a bodyguard etc. etc. he can't be taking this into his own hands. and this dude who got arrested with him sounds like a loser. after all, he started the fight! why's he hangin' with people like that?

Regardless of the legal outcome, McClain is guilty of poor judgment and letting down his teammates. To put himself in this position is devoid of character.

Unless the media reports are wrong, McClain is an irresponsible moron for (a) carrying and brandishing a gun (b) and firing his gun.

Use simple logic. The guy is 6'3", 255 lbs of chiseled muscle ... is it really necessary for him to pull out a gun when faced with a snivelling, loser who has already been beat up? Of course not. These actions have let down 52 teammates, the entire Raider coaching staff, and countless fans.

Based on what I’ve read so far there are a few problems. The potential is for assault and discharge of a firearm inside the city limits. Those are misdemeanors. The biggest problem , if all is true, is according to what I’ve read no firearm was found at the scene. This gives rise to potential obstruction of justice and interfering with a police investigation. We’re approaching felony territory.

In the end you have to agree with Calico. Regardless of circumstances, McClain showed extremely poor judgment. Even if he was provoked. Since it’s reported the alleged victim was a friend, was he upset that McClain wasn’t spreading the wealth? All types of scenarios come to mind, but it all boils down to judgment.

The larger question that I haven’t heard being broached is why was he in Alabama and not practicing with the team if he is expected to play on Sunday? I’m reasonably sure he had to have the team’s permission to be absent.

Now This...The Victim Is Identified And A Bama Basketball Player...

Rishard Tapscott #22
Profile
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: Decatur, AL
Height: 6’2
Position: guard

Tapscott, 23, said said he had several broken ribs, a concussion and is having trouble talking out of the right side of his mouth, the station reported.

"I went over there, it was basically like an ambush, like they set me up to fight, because as soon as I got there they all went outside and I was sitting in the house," Tapscott said. "That’s when they came back in the house and they were like, ‘You’re going to have to fight, come back out and fight.’ I was like ‘I ain’t fighting, I ain’t coming outside,’ and that’s when he came in the house and assaulted me," said Papscott.

"[Wednesday] night, before all the charges were pressed, I didn’t want him [McClain] to get in trouble because I look at him like a brother, as a friend. I never thought it would come to this. What goes around comes around."

More Info:

http://www.facebook.com/R.Tapscott22

The victim, Rishard Tapscott, 23, told police that he got into a fight with Jerradius Willingham, a 23-year-old Decatur man. Tapscott told police who had responded to the call that he crawled to his car after the fight, then McClain put a gun to his head while he was lying on the ground.

“The victim reported that he begged McClain not to shoot him,” a police news release said, “and that McClain took the gun away from his head, held it next to his ear and fired it.”

Police said Tapscott wasn’t shot but had injuries to his head and face and was bleeding from the nose and mouth when he talked to police at the scene. Tapscott, who said McClain and Willingham both hit him, drove himself to a hospital, where he was treated and released. Investigators met with Tapscott on Thursday morning and helped him obtain arrest warrants for McClain and Willingham, police said.

Where is "BR" today???...He has some litigate background in legal maters...Mine is mostly from being on the wrong side of matters...

Point: "Swipes"...

In any matter involving gun discharge there should have been Swipes taken of both the wielder of that weapon as well an the target at close range looking for traces of Nitrates which will show up...Was this even carried out??...If NOT it will be difficult to build a case of who done it...If it was done it's now open and shut!!

"H"s "obstruction of justice and interfering with a police investigation" is becoming a real possibility here...

Concealing evidence in a criminal investigation...Tampering..It goes on and on!!!

The problem I have with all of this, is this isn't the first or second time with McClain.
It is being reported that he spent his time in High School football team wearing an ankle bracelet for beating up a kid.
There were also other incidents where two similar incidents like this one (minus the gunshots) while he was at 'Bama that seemed to just disappear (thanks Saban).
He's a good player, but he is acting like a thug. If his career is to continue in the NFL, he needs to rid this behavior and rid of his friends.
Rolando, quit acting like a thug!

I'm so sick of hearing "it's me" from Jackson, the play calling sucked from the get go... he said they'd been watching the Dolphins surge of late and knew they were no pushover but then they go in there looking like they had no game plan. We have so much talent on the team and yet once again we look nothing like a playoff team... the message to the fans today was the same as every year, "don't get your hopes up, cos we're guaranteed to let you down. Seems like the next man up we need is a proven play caller... oh... and a GM. As for Mclain's day off; words cannot express the level of dumbness
