Chiefs Gameday Thread

Okay, anyone who saw the 80-yard pass by Caleb Hanie late in the Bears game knew what was going to happen when the Lions were pinned back at their own goal line last Sunday with less than two minutes to go. I knew it, and you knew it, because we've seen it so many times before with this team, across many years and regimes. Even in games they eventually win, the Raiders have made a mystifying art out of the late-game defensive breakdown, with cornerbacks flailing away and safeties in a trance, and even linebackers doing downfield sprints.

Which brings me to the penalty problem, which also seems to be part of the organizational DNA of the Raiders. Blame the zebras? Okay, let's say that 10 percent of the calls are part of the conspiracy margin. So now, instead of committing 10 fouls per game in 2011, let's say we're actually committing nine. Even then we're still the worst in the NFL in that department. Shameful.

The Raiders need to get their act together, starting today. Thank you.

Awesome.

Carson, plenty of pride, more poise please.

Coaching? I can't break it down the way some here on Raidertake can, but the penalties and the mental mistakes can be soul crushing at times.

Ok, I'll say it again. I don't believe in a conspiracy. But, I still say other teams get more of a benefit of the doubt than we do.

KC receiver pushes off (according to the Wilcotts), offensive interference? No, defensive holding, Stanford Routt is flagged.

Flowers holds D. Moore on what should have been a first down catch. No call, we punt.

That's the stuff that drives me insane. At least more insane than I already am.

This one I'll have to review again, but our D-lineman jumps and gets back. After he sets the LT moves. False start, no. Neutral Zone Infraction. In real time it did not appear our guy caused hime to move.

If we committ a penalty call it. If they do call it. Just be fair about it.

I was mostly disappointed with Jackson's playcalling today. The two illegal formations are on Jackson. That was just dumb.

The best play call was the fake end-around pass to DHB (although I might have sent Moore in the pattern) that gave Palmer the time he needed to get the pass off.

Palmer throwing into tripple coverage is scary and has become somewhat commonplace.

Seymore can disappear for games at a time but when he shows up he's All-World.

McClain is at his best when he's going for the QB. However, when given the option between taking on a blocker or going for the ball carrier, he seems to prefer the blocker.

Satele was Dorsey's rag doll today... which really has to make you wonder why we ran into the middle so much.

Note to Bresnahan: When the game is on the line you bring more pressure, not less. Why can't Raider DCs figure this out?

Giordano and Curry have both played big for the Raiders this year.

3:12 PM
Anonymous gary said...

I think Jackson was channeling Gruden with the conservative play calling... I think there was maybe 3 first down passes all game? The draw before the end of reg was amazingly head scratching... and Breshnahan STILL being predictable with the game on the line?? Nice lucky ass win... but the only hope I see with this season still lies with McFadden.

Squeak into the playoffs, and hope McF returns to early form is the only hope... they need 30+ points here on out. This team is not cut out to stop prolific offenses...

Raiders playoffs hopes alive, still in question — UPDATED

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, December 24th, 2011 at 4:38 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders moved into a tie for the AFC West lead with the Denver Broncos on Saturday by virtue of their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and the Broncos loss to the Buffalo Bills.
However, the Broncos still have the inside edge to winning the division, based on the tiebreaking procedure.
The Raiders and Broncos are 8-7, with one game left. The first tiebreak is head-to-head games. The Raiders and Broncos split those games.
That takes it to the second tiebreak, record within the division. The Raiders and Broncos are 3-2. That won’t change if the Raiders and Broncos both win or both lose next Sunday.
If that’s the case, the winner of the division would be decided by record against common opponents. The Broncos would win that tiebreak.
So, the Raiders need to win or tie the San Diego Chargers AND have the Broncos lose to the Chiefs next Sunday for them to win the AFC West.
The Broncos simply need to win OR have the Raiders lose to the Chargers in order for them to win the division.
As for the wild-card race, the Raiders trail the Cincinnati Bengals by one game. The Raiders would get the second wild-card berth if they beat the Chargers and the Bengals lose to the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday.
The Tennessee Titans would get the second wild-card berth if they wind up in a three-way tie with the Raiders and Bengals. If the New York Jets join the fray to make it a four-way tie, the Raiders would get the nod.
Got all that?

I listened to the radio broadcast as usual while watching the vid on net...They constantly pointed out that the way the Raiders lined upm was exactly the same...On the one play the "RT" reports as eligible and a "WR" lines up and steps back so the "RT" is still uncovered...They do this every freakin time...But this crew flagged us for what has been OK this entire season???....WTF!!!

That fake "FG" and saying the clock had already expired was "BS" too!!!...They pointed out how this was done the same as week after week but this crew was just ignorant!!!

They did as much as they could to take this game away!!

Just get him into the backfield to disrupt offense. just like the Madstork used to do.

PR,

You obviously didn't watch the game. Anyone who saw the game and the countless replays knows 1 fact:

the clock hit 0:00 well BEFORE the ball was snapped.

Look, I was as crushed as anyone when we went from a game changing TD to a missed FG. I also found some of the calls questionable BUT the play you cited was not an error by the referees.

That fake "FG" and saying the clock had already expired was "BS" too!!!...They pointed out how this was done the same as week after week but this crew was just ignorant!!!

As per the Radio crew:

All season long it didn't matter if the clock hit "00:0" when the ball was being put into play...Than this week it gets called real tight...They later said the word was it's now going to be scrutinized for prep for the "PO"s but NO word was given in advance that things would be called different for this week...Therefore the "ST"s was still playing it the way things have been allowed all season long...

Now ask yourself this...Why was the clock being shown on that play when they don't usually do that???

And screw this stupid "BS"!!!

"You obviously didn't watch the game."

I have the small net window of the vid and the Radio play by play...

Sucks but that's all there is...

You obviously don't get it that a man is only as good as his word and yours is worthless!!!

You obviously don't have the guts to honor your big mouth and NOSE!!!

I dunno if will help much. I specifically watched him on a play in the first half where he was sent on a blitz... he jogged around the pocket to the left (ignoring an obvious hole he could have blown through right to the QB) and as the pocket moved away from him, he kinda jogged back around to the line of scrimmage.

I dunno... he CAN make plays as evidenced by the game saving knockdown... but its just too haphazard for my tastes. I think he totally lacks all instincts for the game... plus he's kinda lazy. Both intellectually and having a slow motor.

I suspect he will fill out his contract and be cut ala Morrison.

Morrison is still playing for a horrible Buff defense, but has a whopping 5 tackles.

BTW.. where is Oaktown here raving about Tebow??? Seems to have become quite quiet about hims suddenly... unless I missed it?

2:06 PM

It looks like we have to win and Den losing (which is even more possible because they may be without THREE of their best defensive players) plus Tebow suddenly looks lost and horrible.

But if Den wins, we then have to hope for the Ravens to beat Cinci.

I'm pretty sure we hold the tie-breakers with both Buff and Tenn... so those games are less relevant.

IIRC, the Packers squeaked into the playoffs last year by some miracle.

So anything can happen!!!

The Broncos have lost their past two games in lopsided fashions. To make matters worse, Dawkins has been relegated to cheerleading duties on the sidelines for most of those losses, as the Broncos have been torched for 41 and 40 points.

Santa delivered to Raider fans. In spite of being thrown out in the cold last week, it's actually possible to get into the playoffs if only one of two teams loses and the Raiders win.

I will say the Raiders proved one thing this week. They have the ability to win when they suck. Believe it or not, that's a major milestone. KC has been playing very well of late, and they'll be tough competition next year. But in spite of the mistakes and the penalties, the Raiders walked away with one in the win column.

However, we are in very serious need of a few players coming back from injuries. Last game. It's now or never.

"All season long it didn't matter if the clock hit "00:0" when the ball was being put into play"

The ball was not close to being put into play until after the clock hit 0:00. It wasn't a borderline call that went us against us [go to :20 on video for proof]:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/oakland-raiders/09000d5d8256464c/GameDay-Raiders-vs-Chiefs-highlights

This play is no different than any other play. There is a clock. If the ball isn't snapped by the time it hit's 0:00 it is a delay of game.

I can understand venting disappointment and anger when there is a dubious or questionable call but this simply isn't one of them.

Getting upset when the referees call a play correctly, by the book is for losers and babys.

First off, glad I spent time NOT watching the game, of I would have joined Calico Jack in the Oakland Agers league. :)

Secondly, Tebow's relationship with his (and mine) Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is honorable, and when the dust has settled, he will be feeding orphans like his father, in Jesus' name, and that is freaking selfless... it's the media that drive you, and I, a bit nuts. If you were in the same area as Teebs, I am more than certain you'd find the dude cool. If not, whatever, go bash someone else. Teebs loses better than most win.

In closing, this win was decided by a coin toss and Jano's leg, with some help from Seymour, who was doing his job as he's paid to, and well. Had the toss gone the other way, who knows if the D could sustained, and, well, who cares. A win is a win, and I dig the close ones.

On the fake field goal, there is no reason to think the video was doctored.

The ball was snapped at least a full second after the clock expired. I kept wondering when they were going to show a replay. When they did, it was fairly obvious. If they snapped it right at zero, then there is a reason to complain.

But, I am still courious how an illegal formation can be called before you line up.

If they broke the huddle with 12 men, I can understand that. But the call was illegal formation and he indicated a jersey number. Even if he didn't report as eligible, don't they have to wait until you line up at least?

I would just like to know the rule/reason for calling it the way they did.

As for my complaints about some of the calls, I'm just going by what the commentators in the booth were saying. When the guys in the booth are scratching their heads on some of the calls/non-calls, it adds fuel to the fire.

Y'all are gonna love the latest take, now up.

This is from a story on Yahoo Sports: "While other players went out at night, Tebow loaded films of various offenses in his computer and studied and studied and studied until they were locked in his memory."

I know you're all sick of Tim Tebow, but if we're wondering why our team is "running out of gas" and looking a bit lost while the Broncos have mounted an improbable surge, then I think it's an apples to apples comparison.

But if we're looking for clues as to why one team looks inspired while the other looks tired, then these two young leaders and first-round draft picks are probably a good place to start.

But it's still fair to ask why this team's progress is so painfully incremental from one year to the next, and why the team is actually regressing in points scored and points allowed. We can rule out talent. So is it injuries? Coaching? Playcalling? Perhaps.

But there's another potential factor that is hard to pin down, but that also seems increasingly likely: Dedication. Dedication to the art of winning, and doing all that it takes to master that art.

Maybe this team needs something else besides improved health and better playcalling and smarter coaching.

Maybe it just needs to grow up.

posted by Raider Take at 8:05 AM on Dec 16, 2011

Tebow is growing and his team is winning. McClain is regressing and his team is 3-4 over the last seven games. McClain was expected to be an impact player, Tebow was not. No one questions that Tebow is doing everything to maximize his abilities, as limited as they might be. Is McClain? If not, why?

Of course the Broncos are a measuring stick for the Raiders. Who else are the Raiders competing for a spot in the playoffs with?

The Broncos are the most relevant team to the Raiders right now. They are the most topical opponent of the Raiders right now.

One is making good news, the other is making bad news. One is on a team that is surging down the stretch, while the other is on a team that is fading down the stretch.

So forgive me for considering that character, dedication and teamwork might be at the heart of the matter, with two recent first rounders perhaps exemplifying the divide.

It's about culture, dedication and winning.

It's about culture, dedication and winning.

It's about culture, dedication and winning.

It's about culture, dedication and winning.

It's about culture, dedication and winning.
-----------------------------------

Well than where's the word now after that 2 game slide from grace that Tebow and your precious damn Broncos have exhibited???

A few freakin injuries taking them down???

How will they hang now against Orton and his "Squaws"!!!...Anyone want to make a little wager???....LoL!!

While "OTB" spills his big "Donkey" ASS tears all over this board that was presumably a "Raiders Venue" but resembles more a damn Tebow site!!!

My view is limited by the size of the picture window so no way I could see the clock in a replay...Therefore I ask you because I have not been able to find it anywhere...

Did that replay show the actual scoreboard with the clock in view as the kick was being made or was it just a small box in the corner with the clock like they sometimes do???

The same thing you heard from the TV gang is what was coming out of the radio crew too...They were more than just a little pissed by what was going on and said this is the way the Raiders have been lining up all season long...

"RT" reports as eligible and than "WR" lines up outside takes a step back so the "RT" is uncovered and then it's put into play...They threw that flag before the "WR" had a chance to step back and never picked it up when he did...

Bold, aggressive, and living in the moment ... this is Hue Jackson to a T. The key to this trade was the relationship between Palmer and Jackson, in good times and bad.

But now take a look at that list...5 big name players BITCH!!!

Palmer "QB"
Pryor "QB"
Boss "TE"
Curry "OLB"
Chinedum Ndukwe "S"

Now add

Gerdano "S"
Hagen "WR"
Heyer "OT"
Blackstock "ILB"

Yes, I'm looking at the list. The bet was a BIG free agent splash.

Newsflash PR:

Palmer, Pryor, Curry and Ndukwe were NOT free agents. Don't let the facts get in your way. LOL!

Gerdano is a back-up safety. Hagen is 6th on the WR depth chart. Heyer is a back-up to a back up OL. Blackstock is a special teamer.

If you won't to get technical and yes, accurate, we signed 1 and only 1 "Big Name" free agent, Boss.

What are you doing on this board still PR? You lost. Your lost. Get lost.

Clearly this is no more than the acts of a complete coward and liar who never had any intentions of honoring what he said...After jumping in the middle of something that never even concerned him he proceeded to squirm and try to wiggle his way out as soon as it became apparent that Pryor would be selected...Why??...Because he knew damn well that would secure my "V" and his loss which he was in NO way able or ready to face...

Now Jack get your crayon and I will break it down for you again: Why You Lost...

#1....

Projected Possibilities:

"QB"s...Vince Young/Carson Palmer
"WR"s...Vincent Jackson

Everyone named was under contract so thus not free to sign as a free agent at the time of this posted challenge...It's therefore very damn apparent that this "FA" period would also include Trades...

#2...

"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

Specifically named and noted as a "Sup-Draft" selection who obviously could NOT have been added as a "FA"....

#3....

As noted to "NYR" I posted that this challenge should extend to the end of the "Trade Deadline" which was today as posted long before you ever signed off on this challenge as follows...
----------------------------------
Blogger nyraider said...

By the way, there is a timetable for this contest (there has to be). It makes sense that this contest will end with the establishment of a 53-man roster and/or the start of the season.

Good luck!

NO...NOT acceptable...

This challenge was regarding "FA" and that period ends sometime around November if I remember correctly...You aren't allowed to change or stipulate a single word of the Challenge...That was from me and I as the author am the only one who can interpret it correctly...

Yours was to choose the "Weapons"...You chose leaving for one year and now that's that...

PERIOD!!!!

7:16 AM
----------------------------------
#4....

Not only did we sign threw the "Sup-Draft"/"FA" -n- Trades 5 big name players but we also added other talent to this roster who have had significant playing time...

This very much constitutes a "Splash" by any possible definition!!!...

You lost Jack...See Ya!!!

http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=16702745&postID=5916134962836108605

Now look at it very closely as I break it all down for you:

#1...As posted:

I will wager that Mr Davis makes a splash in "FA" this season....

This was in direct response to "CJ"/"NYLiar and others posting that Al Davis was so strapped for $$$ that he would NOT be signing ANY "FA"s....I posted NOT to try to tie his hands over $$$$ because he will do as he pleases to build his team....This had NOTHING to do with what players were let go or not signed nor did it have anything to do what where a player was drafted...Late round and "UDFA" can and have made names for themselves too...It's New "FA" Starters Only!!!

#2...Clarification:

At least one big name player if not 2....

It specifically noted "One" and than possibly "Two"...Than out of consideration for "NYLiar"s constant CRYING I allowed to to go to "Two"....That was a concession on my part and NOT as originally stated in this challenge....But don't you demand I make further concessions for your apparent weaknesses and lack of intestinal fortitude to stand as MEN and honor that which you have already signed off on!!!..I simply won't give you any more!!!

#3....Projected Possibilities:

"QB"s...Vince Young/Carson Palmer
"WR"s...Vincent Jackson/Plaxaco Burris
"OT"....________________________
"OLB"...________________________
"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

These names were NOT written in stone...They were merely "Examples" of what was to be considered "Big Name Players"..."Projected Possibilities"...Now look at that list while I break it down for you:

Vince Young...1st rd pick who was considered by many a Bust...Put together one good season making the "PB" followed by a season of disgust and kicked off his team...Had few seasons where he started all yr...

Carson Palmer a regular starter who failed to post great #'s and was now a Crier demanding to be traded/released or retired...

Vincent Jackson former 2nd rd pick who posted good #'s but became a complete malcontent and was in the middle of holding out...Failed to play last season until late and failed to make any bid for returning to the "PB"...

Plaxico Burris was a former productive player who's off field problem landed him in jail and he has not posted a single stat in the past 2 seasons....

"OT"....________________________
"OLB"..._______________________

Un-named candidates who would become starters for the Raiders...This must first and foremost be available "FA"s and NOT players who's teams lock them up to keep them from moving on...This is NOT a list of the "Top Players At Their Positions"....It's legitimately available players who have been starters will be starters on my football team...

11:42 AM
Blogger PantyRaider said...

"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

This was specified and a name was posted as a possible player who would be available...NOT the only available player who may be taken here...

#4..."more than 1 "big name, tier 1" external FA who are legit. starters."

That was your posted definition as posted...The criteria is that they would have to be "Starters"...In the past and now....As was this:

"If the Raiders sign 1 or 0 "big name" tier 1 external FAs starters, PR would walk."

Again the posted criteria was "Starter"....

#5...Now notice how you try to move those "Rubber Walls" of yours and change the parameters of this challenge:

" If we sign 1 player who is a big upgrade over the existing starter or departed player, that would be what a BIG name, tier 1 FA is all about."

"Clearly there was never any intention of making a splash in free agency which makes this bet a complete joke."

"If a journeyman free agent ends up starting it hardly qualifies as a "splash" or "big name" free agent signing."

#6...It has been unanimously agreed that Keven Boss is one "Top Tier FA Starter" so now we need just one more or none to settle the issues....

#7...Other "FA"s have already been signed who have been legitimate starters at some point on their former teams so if they now become "Starters" on the Raider's 53 man roster they will count in this challenge just like the names I posted as examples would all have counted including the one who hasn't posted a stat in two freakin seasons!!!

#8...As I have warned..."Don't step is something that don't wash off"...

You don't get to scream and kick because YOU failed to read the fine print nor do you get to change the contract after signed sealed and delivered here at "RT"s place...It's now a mater of public record and I can assure you will be posted throughout "CtberSpace" if you fail to live up to what you have agreed to...Ya know once you drove the used car off my lot you owned it...NO Returns Accepted!!!

It looks like at least Jones is playing this week, which will help. I think teams are just throwing too many players into the box knowing that Hue calls a lot of running plays, number one.. and secondly, Bush doesn't have the quicks to break out any long runs... especially outside the tackle box.

This allows more single coverage of the WRs (which for some reason Hue refuses to exploit.)

..other notes... Routt gets into the top ten in inexact CB stats.

http://footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2011/early-look-2011-cb-charting

or http://tinyurl.com/6ru9ggx

His biggest problem is his career long habit of wrapping his arm AROUND the WRs, IMO... not the contact. Refs ignore some contact, but rarely ignore it if its AROUND the receiver. It just looks illegal. If you look at Revis, he has as much contact as any corner in the league, but its all done without wrapping... so he rarely gets flagged.

You would think that RWood could coach that out of Routt, but perhaps like a bad golf swing habit, its not easy to break? It drives me nuts.

Panty,

In the replay they were showing the actual scoreboard clock inset against the play. All these cameras are time stamped to fractions of a second, so I believe it just took them a minute or so to sync up the video of the clock and the play. I believe there was a slight delay in the decision making on the sideline, causing the penalty.

I’ll find the replay tomorrow, but my reason for asking about the rule on the illegal formation is I’ve only seen it called after a play. Not after a team has broken the huddle and is in the process of lining up. If I’m suffering from senile dementia, I’ll gladly concede my memory was incorrect. I’m just trying to understand the call.

In the thousands of football games I’ve seen, and the much smaller I've played in, I don’t remember anything like that. Maybe I’ll learn something.

T. Jones traveled to KC and was a game time decision to not play. I expect him back vs. SD and to get 4-6 important carries.

Getting a few dynamic plays from both Reece and T. Jones will be very important. I would also like to see Boss used more to move the chains.

It will be very interesting to see how aggressive the Raiders D will be with blitzing Rivers.

They already have a blueprint from the first SD game.

Not that Breshnahan is smart enough to check it.. even though our entire defense is largely the same.

Anything could happen... literally.

I'll say it again... he dials up defenses the same way as a six year old does playing Madden.

Our entire season is on the edge this week as is that "Donkey"s....But that "Donkey" is very worried as per this: They let the wrong "QB" go...
-----------------------------------
Up next for Tebow and Broncos? Their old pal Kyle Orton

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow hopes Sunday is the day he beats the guy he couldn’t beat out in training camp — Kyle Orton, who brings the Kansas City Chiefs (6-9) to Denver with a shot at spoiling the playoff hopes of a team that shunted him aside.

Asked if he’s confident he has the better quarterback for this matchup, Broncos coach John Fox replied: “Well, we made that decision, you know. As I always say about anything, looking forward, time will tell.”

The Broncos could lose Sunday and still make the postseason if San Diego beats Oakland.
----------------------------------

Vengeance will taste sweet for Orton so he will not concede this one and play hard to the bitter end..."I suspect "KC"s "D" is now very angry as well and will also give it their all...Not like "SD" who I suspect may just fold without a coach to play for..."KC" has their man and will play to keep him...

Another factor is that the "Donkey" has now lost faith in Tebow as their savior...He doesn't have the promised magic and was the reason for losing last week with his 4 picks including the "Pick-6"....That "D" is now lame and pissed at him...They have kept that team in contention while he has reaped all the publicity...Now they have to go against the guy they let go who knows them very well....I smell a total "MeltDown" on the way!!!!

Kevin Boss has 25 receptions and 2 TDs. Hue Jackson should be ashamed of himself for Boss' lack of opportunities, particularly in the red zone where Boss is potentially a huge target.

Under Jackson's offense last year, Zach Miller had 60 receptions and 5 TDs.

Jake Ballard, Boss' replacement in NYG, has 38 rec and 4 TDs (prior to this week).

Boss is ranked like 35 in the NFL for total rec's, meaning there are backup TEs with better production.

Graham has 91 rec 10 TDs
Gronkowski has 82 rec 15 TDs

(Figures not updated for this week).

IMO, this is a big part of the reason the Raiders need help to make the playoffs. Boss should have been getting more opportunities with Ford, Moore, McFadden and others out with injury.

Against KC, Boss had zero rec. The guy has been relegated to Special Teams player.

What are you talking about NYR? Boss was the big splash. And the 'QB' from Ohio St was the other, they have been huge contributors to the Raiders this yr? Boss, we were told, was even better than Miller because he caught as much as a 4th target as Miller who was the 1st target, remember?

Looks like the HC doesn't like something about Boss who was signed at 4 mill/per? IMO, the only splash was Palmer, for a possible 2 1st round picks. All the rest were to fill out the roster. Because Jethro mapped out a scenario that made these moves a "splash", doesn't mean it is so, right? But the 'insane one' still won't admit that there was no splash and will never admit that he should leave.....I pity his daughter/wife.

Turner looked like he lost the team earlier this year, with losing 5 straight games... the only thing they have is Rivers can light it up at times, and our secondary can be the worst in the NFL at times.

I think this more likely could be a blow out though. Most of that team will be mailing it in.

I'm guessing Boss lost Palmers confidence with that game he had the three? drops... and lets remember that Campbell didn't really trust anyone besides Miller last year. Our WR situation was a grease fire except for a few flashes of brilliance by Ford last year.

Oh, and Hue just doesn't like to do anything besides run the ball anyway... lets remember that.

Ok... short n sweet, besides the obvious must win-must lose AFC West wars... in order to enter the postseason, Cincinnati must lose to Baltimore in Cinci... thats possible. Tennessee must lose to Texans in Texas, probable. (or the Jets have to win in Miami... up for grabs). I believe Denver will lose because Tebow will feed pig scalp to the hungry Chiefs defense. I believe Oakland WILL win because they have a pretty good wild card swagger factor and enough talent to pull it off. Calico, Take... thoughts.

A little perspective on the Chiefs' game and other comments...

The Chiefs were aching for the chance to deny us the playoffs, as we have done so often for them. They have also been hot lately, beating an undefeated GB the week prior.

The refs were especially nasty to us on Saturday. Davis used to say that what concerned him in officiating was bias. Bias does not involve a conspiracy. It IS the kind of stupidity that says what the refs think should happen is more important than what actually happened. The refs have openly stated that they often make judgments based on reputation - during the season and beyond. It's not rocket science - it's not a conspiracy - it's bias, pure and simple.

But beyond that the Raiders made more than their fair share of mistakes and yet persevered to win. This win is more valuable to us than it appears.

Our offense had trouble moving the ball, and giving up interceptions, but the defense is the best part of the Chiefs. Their offense is only averaging 13 points a game. That's true even in the games they've won. The only reason that the Chiefs are near .500 is because of their defense.

Also, regarding Jackson's play calling. If you remember back toward the beginning of the season when we had McFadden, Ford, Moore and DHB all on the field, play calling was wide open. I've said repeatedly that if we can get all those guys on the field together - with Palmer, Reece and Bush thrown in - we can score at will.

Jackson has said that he follows Davis' philosophy of thinking player, not play. What he means by that is that he designs the plays according to the players available.

Much of our passing attack has disappeared with the injuries. Jackson, according to his own design, is working with a limited playbook because of injuries limiting who can run them.

We need speed. T. Jones would be a big help this week, just like Moore was a big help last week.

Blanda,

Calls based on reputation. It's what I've always believed.

Now, on the second illegal formation. The flag was very, very late.

The Raiders were breaking the huddle and were about to line up. The refs stopped play before the Raiders finished lining up and assessed a five yard penalty. They said 75 (Stephon Heyer) was lined up as eligible but did not report as eligible.

What they were penalizing was the previous formation. No flag was thrown during the play itself. It was after the play, well after the play. The network had gone to a Game Break highlight of another game, the Raiders had huddled and called their next play and were attempting to line up for the next play.

If Heyer did in fact not report, the penaley was legit. But, why wait so long. What Jackson was complaining about was the length of time in calling the penalty.

25 receptions in 15 games by Boss is (a) a head-scratcher (b) very disappointing.

The TE position is one of the most important weapons in the NFL these days because of the match-up advantage.

Besides the Miami game, Boss has consistently been a reliable pass catcher WHEN he is a target.

My guess on the pivotal games this weekend:

Raiders over SD by 10
KC over Den by 3
NYJ over Mia by 1
Balt over Cincy by 13
Tenn over Hou by 9

"WR"s...Vincent Jackson/Plaxaco Burris
"OT"....________________________
"OLB"...________________________
"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

Palmer -n- Pryor were both personally named...They both qualify and NO amount of your LIES can hide that fact!!

"FA" = "Free-Agency" as in "Free-Agency Period" which runs till Nov as noted and includes all transaction that add players other than the regular draft as noted by the simple fact that 4 of the 5 players named were NOT "FA"s so had to be pursued threw trades of "Sup-Draft"...

You signed off as posted and now want to cry that you didn't understand the "Fine Print".....

NO EXCUSES!!!!.....You committed yourself and there's NO retractions allowed!!!

Curry will also count and fills that unnamed "LB" spot...

The only specified areas that were not filled is "WR"/"OT" but a "TE" was added so that kinda equals it as a blocker -n- receiver in one...

There was NEVER anything posted about quality of play or production prior to this point but now you make an attempt to disqualify a "Starter" on this basis....Why???....Have a headache knowing there's NO way out???....No Doubt as you continue to squirm looking for your escape like a damn Coward!!!

Note:

#3....

As noted to "NYR" I posted that this challenge should extend to the end of the "Trade Deadline" which is now past as posted long before you ever signed off on this challenge as follows...

Scorpio, I remember things differently. I remember that one of the prime topics of discussion going into the season was the Raiders LACK of depth. We felt that we were strong among the starters, but couldn't afford many injuries. But we've had a deluge of injuries.

Regarding Murphy and Schilens, I think the emergence of Ford and Moore showed us how average Murphy and Schilens are. Also, both were out of the lineup through the first month with injuries and didn't come back until about a month into the season. Neither had much, if any, preseason.

We're also dealing with a QB who hadn't played since January, 2011, until he joined us half way through the season.

As for Boss, I don't know if anyone has noticed but our O-line has been breaking down a bit as of late. Boss and Myers have been used rather regularly in a double TE set, and used for blocking rather than receiving.

We don't use Boss as extensively as we did Miller because Boss never established himself here the way Miller did. I haven't checked, but it seems to me that I've heard that Miller hasn't had near the season in Seattle that he's had with us.

9:24 AM
Blogger nyraider said...

IMO, there's no valid reason for Boss' lack of opportunities.

The fact that he's been out-performed by his replacement in NYG says a lot.

Boss should be a weapon for the Raiders. Finding ways to get him the ball is up to Hue Jackson.

Miller had 60 rec last year in the same offense. Boss has 25 rec with only one game left.

If you look at the Raiders success on offense this year compared to last you will find a similar drop-off. Coincidence? Hard to say.

One thing is for sure, the most prolific offenses in the NFL have mega production from the TE position. Some teams have two TEs on their roster that have out-performed Boss.

The offensive line with be filled with inexperience, yet expected to perform at a higher level than the long-time veterans they replace.

The secondary may take a big hit (pun intended), but only because we can't play zone and nobody on the Raiders can fill Nnamdi's shoes in man coverage.

TE was thin before Miller's potential departure. Without Miller, we're pretty much screwed.

Sure Davis will restructure some contracts and get back under the cap, but will that be enough to re-sign some of our own key players? It all falls back to overpaying so much for guys like Wembley and Routt. Hence, the balloon effect continues.

I agree the "TE" is an important part of the "O" but many teams scarcely use them at all but still win...

Ours is the #4 receiver on the "O"...That's not ignored...The big difference now is that a "WR" is actually our #1 instead of the "TE"...The "RB" is still our #2 as in the past but we now have another "WR" as our #3 which is a huge shift from the recent past...

Now if I remember correctly last season and for several prior it was posted that this needs to change and it has...No longer is the "WR" position shunned as in the past...It's now our #1/#3/Tied #4..."DHB"/Moore/Chaz have stepped up and it would have been Ford in there too had he been healthy...

But than if "D-Mac" was healthy where would he have fit into this???

The fact is we now have a very powerful passing "O" which was almost nonexistent in seasons past...

Just think what it can be next season with a full camp for Palmer and all our specialty players healthy???

NYRaider,

I'm with you. Get Boss the ball more. He is averaging over 13 yards pere catch and 17 of his 25 receptions have been for first downs.

One of the reasons I like using the tight end is it is one of the most efficient ways to slow down the rush. Especially against teams that like to blitz.

Jackson has been taking the TE out and putting in extra linemen on some running situations. That is what got us into the illegal formation problems on Sunday once I figured out what the hell the refs were talking about. It also telegraphs what you are going to do to the defense. Is there a time limit on when they can call a penalty?

Anyway, throw a little more to the TE on first down. Make the LB have to account for you. Makes running easier too.

Casper, Chester, Christensen, even Ethan Horton. We have a history of TE's that can move the chains and dominate the middle of the field.

Broncos' Dawkins misses practice with nagging neck injury

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Brian Dawkins was held out of the Denver Broncos' practice because of a neck injury that has bothered him for most of the month.

Fellow starting safety Quinton Carter (lower back) and nickel cornerback Chris Harris (neck), who leads all rookie defensive backs with 62 tackles, both participated in the team's final full-padded practice after leaving last weekend's loss at Buffalo with those injuries.

The Broncos are hoping for a healthy secondary to face former quarterback Kyle Orton, who brings the Kansas City Chiefs (6-9) to town Sunday with a chance to beat the team that benched him in favor of Tim Tebow.

Orton can exact some revenge on the Broncos (8-7) by denying them their first playoff berth since 2005, when they last won the AFC West.

What teams are you referring to?

If you look down the list of top TEs, all the good teams have at least one that is very productive.

As I look at the list, I'm starting to believe a team's success is directly tied to TE.

I don't see a single team headed for the playoffs that didn't have a TE in the top 20. Several of the best teams have two TEs in the top 30.

The Raiders are at or near the bottom of the NFL in production from the TE position.

That doesn't bode well to what appears to be a strong correlation to success.

For as little as Jackson has thrown to his TE this year, targeting Boss in the SD game could come as a huge surprise to the Chargers.

The TE position is prime for mismatches on D. That's why it's so productive on most teams and makes good teams more successful.

PR, I think you're missing my point. It's irrelevant where a team's TE ranks on his own team. Some teams have WRs with over 100 rec. The Raiders don't have that luxury.

Boss is ranked 4th best receiver on a team whose most productive WR is not even half that of the top WRs in the league.

Are you saying Boss has produced at level consistent with your expectation?

At the beginning of the season, I think we were all pretty convinced he would eclipse Miller's production.

I'm saying that his lack of production (for which I mostly blame Jackson) is a significant negative factor to our having to fight for our playoff life this weekend.

Boss catches 60+ balls in 2011 and we win the division hands down.

Anonymous gary said...

Boss isn't being productive lately because of his critical drops a few games back, and also because Myers is a better run blocker, and Hue wants to run.

Both are kinda his fault.

Just my opinion.

That said.. he would seem like a no-brainer in goal line passing situations. His size should be a matchup nightmare in the end zones.

Maybe Carson doesn't like him?

Not sure I am following your logic here... Miller caught around that many balls when we were having 4 win seasons.

????

66 brought us 5 wins in 2009.

Blogger nyraider said...

The logic is the Raiders were good enough to field at least a .500 team with sub-standard performance from their TE.

Normal production from the position likely puts us over the top. Pretty simple.

Looking at successful teams around the league, production from TE seems to be a common denominator.

The Raiders have been void of trying the very red zone mismatch you mention. Boss should be money against red zone coverages. The guy towers over his would-be defenders.

NYRaider,

I have always been a strong advocat of heavy use of the tight end. When the TE catches 4-6 passes, a teams winning percentage goes up.

They give LB's something else to think about, slow down the rush, help the run game. It just gives the defense something else to prepare for. Look at Antonio Gates and his affect on the Dolts offense. He didn't lead the team in receiving, but his presence helped everyone else. How many times on third and medium did he move the chains on us.

That's the affect of a good tight end.

At 6'6" 255 lbs. and athletic, Boss is a valuable weapon/match-up nightmare.

Besides making the safe 5-10 yard, important chain moving receptions, there are so many ways he can be incorporated into the game plan in order to diversify our offense and make it that much more potent.

The play that I know is there for the taking is the intermediate to deep seam route especially with safeties worried about Moore.

Boss made his reputation with the Giants as one of Manning's favorite red zone targets. His high # of TDs to receptions ratio was built on red zone opportunities.

Love to see Boss targeted on a more consistent basis and the Charger game is as good a starting place as any.

"NYR"...

Not sure why Hue has now shied away from the "TE"...As said they are being used more for blocking than in the past and the "WR"s are much more productive...I would have thought that he would get more touches with all the injuries at "WR"???

Instead our "FB" Reece has been that man...Boss was out with injury the 1st month but been healthy sense...Had the drops but everyone of our receivers have gone threw that this season...

So here's the options:

Hue doesn't like him???...Doubt that!!

Palmer doesn't throw to the "TE"???

"TE" was his 4th receiver in Cinci...
Jermaine Gresham 52/471yds 9.1ave 4 "TD"s

We needed the extra help blocking??
But our "OL" was said to be doing well...

Boss has some mysterious undisclosed injury keeping him from getting open???...Not likely...

The "D"s were playing to take him out??...Why if he's not being targeted??

The loss of our speed at "WR" -n- "RB" has translated to the "TE"s being covered???

No clear answer here that I can see...

Raiders are #13th in both total "O" -n- Passing "O"...#6th Rushing...The "TE" could have made us better???...Prolley...But any extra pass that you throw at the "TE" is one taken away from a "RB" or "WR"....Boss' production goes up while their production goes down unless your going to stop running so much and get pass happy...

And in answer to your question YES!!...I expected allot more from Boss this season and fully expected him to be more productive than Zack was....Just simply not the case and don't know why???

But being the #4 doesn't seem that huge of an issue to me...And if I were to put the blame for losing so many games on something it would be something regarding our lame ass "D" which by the #'s has fallen off while overall our "O" has remained consistent with improved passing...

Reportedly Ford returns as does "TJ" which could be huge for this "O"...We definitely need it...Speed makes everything work better for us...

There is no excuse for our TEs being unproductive in the passing game.

Boss - 25 receptions
Myers - 15 receptions

Both are sure handed pass catchers who run good routes.

If you use 2 TE sets, 1 should be blocking while the other goes out in as a target.

If you use a 1 TE set, the TE should be a very useful receiver for 3rd down conversions.

If anything, with the injuries to WRs and RBs throughout the season, there should have been an upward spike in passes targeted to the TEs.

CBs and safeties are too small to cover our TEs. LBs are too slow or are not proficient enough to cover a TE who runs good routes.

Utilizing plays where our players have matchup advantages is playing good, sound football.

There is one additional revenge factor this weekend. If Cincy has lost when the game starts, then Palmer can put a big dent in their playoff hopes with a win.

Baltimore is favored. If they win, Cindy needs a lot of help.

Bottom line is if Cincy has already lost then it's win and in.

Even though playing the Texicans as a wild card might be the easier path, I like the sound of AFC West Champs. But, then again, my all time favorite Raider team was a wild card team. Albeit an 11-5 wild card team.

Just win baby.

Anoter quicky. Carson Palmer is 4-4 as a starter. He needs this one to start his Raider career with a winning record.

With him as starter we have won three in a row and lost three in a row with a split in the other two.

Time to shine. Jacoby Ford is back, but probably will not return any kicks. This gives us Moore, Ford and DHB all ready to play. With all that speed the underneath stuff should be open all game long.

I'm starting to like our chances to win. Just need Baltimore to win also.

Just think if on 3rd and 6 with the game on the line Jackson goes for an 8-yard pass to Boss/Meyers instead of a low-percentage bomb down the sideline.

To further demonstrate my point, here's stats of the leading TE production from ALL the teams with double digit wins.

New England:
Rob Gronkowski 82 rec 15 TDs
Aaron Hernandez 72 rec 6 TDs

Baltimore:
Ed Dickson 53 rec 5 TDs
Dennis Pitta 34 rec 2 TDs

Houston:
Owen Daniels 54 rec 3 TDs
Joel Dreessen 25 6 TDs

Pittsburgh:
Heath Miller 49 rec 2 TDs

Green Bay:
Jermichael Finley 48 rec 7 TDs

Detroit:
Brandon Pettigrew 76 rec 5 TDs
Tony Scheffler 22 rec 5 TDs

New Orleans:
Jimmy Graham 91 rec 10 TDs

San Fran:
Vernon Davis 59 rec 6 TDs

Now here's the Raiders at 8-7:
Kevin Boss 25 rec 2 TDs
Brandon Myers 15 rec 0 TDs

Red flag on Hue Jackson!

NYRaider,

There is also:

Atlanta
Tony Gonzalez 79 rec 7 TD

Cincy
Germaine Gresham 51 rec 6 TD

Dallas
Jason Whitten 72 rec 5 TD

Even Boss’ replacement in NY has better numbers. The two teams in the playoff hunt with the lowest TE numbers are us and Denver. Denver had a game where they only threw eight times.

Solid production with the TE doesn’t guarantee success, but it can be a barometer of how healthy your offense is and how much better you can perform in the Red Zone. You have to be able to win in different ways. Good use of the TE to compliment everyone else gives you another tool to get the job done.

When they put seven or eight in the box to stop Bush or McFadden, use the TE on first and third down to keep the defense honest. Lately Jackson has gone to putting in extra tackles. That’s telegraphing. It also got us a couple of illegal formation penalties.

Seattle, Arizona and St. Louis all pretty much suck and they all have lower TE production than we do. I'm sure Zach has had some second thoughts.

Well for some reason that was not even listed when I went to NFL.com stats and copy pasted everything here for "NE"???...So I went and looked again and obviously I copied from the wrong place???

Receiving Statistics
Player Rec Yds Yds/Rec Long TD
Wes Welker 116 1518 13.1 99 9
Rob Gronkowski 82 1219 14.9 52 15

Tiquan Underwood 3 30 10.0 13 0
Stevan Ridley 3 13 4.3 8 0
Matthew Slater 1 46 46.0 46 0

LoL!!...The freakin Bills but looked at the "NE" player list for "TE" names....OK...Old age has finally caught up with me!!!

Bills: #4 Receiver "TE" and they don't be a winning team...

Scott Chandler 35 360 10.3 31 6

So...You made your point that the "TE" has been under utilized so now care to speculate as to why???

Maybe there's hope with the return of ford/"TJ" and their speed that Boss will now be open more???

"H"...

Yes I do believe Palmer would thoroughly enjoy putting a nail in that Cinci coffin...But even sweeter would be to face them later in the "PO"s and knock them off head to head!!!

One question though regarding Tenn...It appears that if that "Donkey" wins and we win and Tenn wins that we need the Jets to win in order to have the "WC" tiebreaker even with Cinci losing???...

Raiders 6th Seed If These Teams Win:

Den/Oak/Jets/Hou
Den/Oak/Jets/Tenn
Den/Oak/Mia/Hou

But if Tenn wins with no Jets win we be out???

Houston Worries Me....What Will They Be Playing For???

They have already won the South and can’t win the Bye now at 10-n-5…Not with Pitts playing the "Dawgs"….So what gets them up for this game???

AFCS rivalry?
Not wanting to risk seeing Tenn again in the "PO"s?
Trying to rest some players for later??

Nothing here gets me excited!!!

After Beating Cinnci For The AFCS The Texans Have Lost 2 In A Row...Carolina -n- Indy!!

Indy was their own division and they didn’t seem to care…How much are they going to care about Tenn???

Jets-vs-Miami has more potential in it…Jets need it and Miami has been playing better and would love to deny them…But we need the jets to win if we win for the tiebreakers to take effect…Jets are in Miami against a very good "D" while their "O" is being dissed by "SOB"Rex’s big mouth….Already their "OC" and "QB" are getting all the blame….So how much will either have and how much will that team have???

Normal production from the position likely puts us over the top. Pretty simple.

Keeping Asum would have been even simpler and a more genuine guarantee of two more victories (Det, Buff.)

Maybe Boss was let go by NY because he's not very good at getting open?

And you are ignoring the fact that Myers is better at run blocking.. so he already has limited plays to begin with.

Gary said: "Maybe Boss was let go by NY because he's not very good at getting open?"

Boss was a free agent who the Giants tried to retain.

Honestly, it sounds like you're the one looking for something to bitch about. I'm just putting the facts out there for discussion.

We're approaching the most important game in nine seasons, and I'm lobbying for the TE to get more chances.

Why is that such a problem for you?

It's interesting that you would criticize me for putting something out there and backing it with stats, but you have no reservation throwing this out there with your guarantee.

I would guess that even with Asomugha on the team, Bresnahan still sends McClain to cover Johnson 40 yards down the middle of the field.

Interesting. Pointing out an area the team can imporve on is now hand wringing.

As for Boss being let go, Eli Manning was lobbying management to resign him. He was a Free Agent as was Miller.

Al Davis along with looking for the next Cliff Branch, was also looking for the next Dave Casper or Todd Christensen. It's why he converted Ethan Horton from RB to TE. It's why he drafted Ricky Dudley, Doug Jolly and Zach Miller.

We have a history of good to great TE's on our best teams. Even one in the Hall of Fame.

The Raiders have actually spread the ball out to WRs better this year, which could explain some drop off in production at the TE position; but it doesn't explain the neglect.

Blogger PantyRaider said...

Well "NYR" last season the "WR"s were a non-factor and everyone complained...Now they be our #1 -n- #3 producers...The cost of that improvement has evidently been the diminishing of the "TE"???

As I already posted unless you want to stop running so damn much that's just the way it will be...Only so many passes thrown and they get split now between several receivers if everyone's healthy:

"DHB"/Moore/Ford/Chaz/Murphy/"TJH"

Boss/Myer/Ausberry

"D-Mac/Bush/Reece/"TJ"

Damn that's so many weapons in the passing game that somebody has to take a back seat at least some of the time and the passing game as a whole has to take a back seat to the Run...

I still think it's a non-issue!!!

Take what they give us...With so much to defend they are going to have to give us something...

It's true, weapons in our passing game are better than they've been in a long long time.

That doesn't change the fact that Jackson has called low percentage plays when the game is on the line instead of playing smart and throwing to his TE on critical 3rd downs and in the red zone.

These types of plays are obvious to most teams and good coaching, and very difficult to defend.

“NE” is #1 seed

Cinci goes to Houston

Cinci has a very good chance to win this game…Lost only in the final seconds this season after leading…

Bal goes to OakTown

Bal has an average “O” but tremendous “D”…Not a huge rushing threat…Maybe we can win at home???…Palmer knows these Birds…

Cinci wins they go to “NE”…

Cinci could do this…That cold won’t effect them in the least…

Raiders win we go to Pitts…..

I like this better than going to “NE”….Maybe “Dumb Ben” has been beaten enough that he just can’t hang???

NYRaider,
It is always easy to second guess calls that don't work. While Hue has missed on a few he has nailed others. The fake punt and a fake fg that were huge and won us two different games.

I agree that we are not using Boss to his full potential but we do not have the luxury of being at practice every day or being privy to the game plan.

I think Hue is a great offensive mind, certainly better than myself. There must be a reason Boss is not as involved as we would like. Let's not forget that Hue is a rookie HC without a GM in a dysfunctional organization. That cannot be minimized.

I think Hue calls some of the low percentage plays with the game on the line because he realizes our D is a liability. He did not choose the coordinator and I believe we see positive changes in the offseason.

That said, we are still alive and this is the most excitement I have witnessed in 8 years. I may have shortened my lifespan but it has been a crazy season. Here is to a few more games.

Roy... great post.. and spot on. I think part of the problem is that criticizing the Raider coach has become such a reflex action, that many Raider fans know nothing else.. especially now that they can't belly-ache about Al (which usually went hand-in-hand).

Its hard to belly-ache about injuries, because nobody has any control of that... so it's the coach.

Hue DOES deserve criticism, and he admits that... but to second guess the use of a TE that was prolly completely unknown last year to all the people doing the second guessing???

Kinda weird...

This isn't fantasy football... where the best stats always win.

It looks like Bellichick is the one to discover how to slay Tebow... instead of trying to sack him, they are now just containing the pocket and forcing him to throw. It takes discipline, and if the Raiders played him 20 times this year, we would lose 19 of them (we recruited the least disciplined players in the NFL.. plus we have a DC that could watch the film from the last two Den games and STILL not figure it out) but I think KC can do it.

I like our chances to win the AFCW this Sunday. I'd put it at 70%.

Raiders win by 10 vs SD... KC wins a 13-10 squeaker.

I('m pretty sure if the key to winning was to throw to Boss a few more times a game, Hue might have figured that one out by now.

And endless arguments about it do seem silly, particularly when the passing offense is ranked 13th in the NFL... while nobody seems to think our near BOTTOM ranked defense is worthy of discussion in comparison.

But knock yourself out CJ!!

Gary,

I fully realize that the Raiders offensive success doesn't hinge completely on Boss or the TE position.

My only point is that by using Boss more it could make an impact in a few very important elements to a game;

(1) 3rd down conversions; last week were 3 for 11. For the season we are only converting 33% of our 3rd down conversions. Staying on the field, time of possession, creating more scoring opportunities, keep our D off the field ... yes, 3rd down conversions and using the TE in more of these situations is important.

The TE is good weapon for short to intermediate passes in the center of the field. These types of plays are relatively easy and safe to execute and provides the QB a nice BIG window and target.

(2) Red Zone; this is how Boss made his mark with the Giants.

Awesome article about containing Tebow...

The part at the end where the DE's never run deeper than where Tebow is situated is what I referenced earlier (and which is why no Raider could do this... they have always tried to wheel around the ends to sack the QB for as long as I can remember... which is another reason why we suck against the run every year.)

Now I find this attitude rater refreshing and fully agree...Than after we get that Run working the Pass will be there too...

That’s my opinion. That’s what I’ve seen over the years.”

In other words, look for the Raiders to go with a heavy dose of Michael Bush and Taiwan Jones and see if they can’t get the Chargers to roll over.

"OTB"...

NOT sure what your pimping???

"Pattycake titles are weak smack, and anyone who thinks this year's Division Win is huge, it's not."

Just where the hell does something like this come from???...Maybe you want that "Puke Orange" to be the West Champs so badly that you diminish it in "S&B"???

Prolley the only way to the "PO"s for my team is to win and that "Donkey" ASS to lose giving us the AFCW....Now just how the hell is that NOT huge???

The alternative is to hope in the Jets/Texans/Ravens to gift it to us which would be a weak path to the "PO"s....So something in your head is turned inside out or upside down...Not sure which???

Gary I totally disagree...True we prolley have the dumbest "DC" in football who should be running a "B&B" instead....But our "O" would take that "Donkey" game after game if we met again...That "D" would get destroyed by our "O"...Consistently!!

Containing the Donkeys offense and TeBlow is relatively easy IF you have a front 7 that does a few basic things;

(1) treat every play as a running play

(2) keep TeBlow in the pocket

(3) stay disciplined with your assignment, gameplan, pass rushing, and gap control

(4) Every given opportunity, knock the livin' crap out of TeBlow

The day that the Donkeys beat an opponent with TeBlow in a traditional passing attack is the day that (1)- (4) don't apply to the "TeBlow Rules"

Defenses coming up with blueprint for Tebow Time to run out

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82586a37/article/defenses-coming-up-with-blueprint-for-tebow-time-to-run-out?module=HP11_cp

Feature several varieties of man coverage in the game plan

The Broncos' offensive struggles during the past three weeks can be tied directly to their opponents' willingness to use Cover-1 on most downs. The Bears and Bills, in particular, played a man-free coverage, which placed a safety in the deep middle with the corners locked in man coverage with outside leverage. The linebackers and nickel corner play a "cut" coverage against the Broncos' interior core of receivers to free up a second-level defender to switch onto a shallow crossing route or spy on Tebow from depth.

The Bears used the coverage with Brian Urlacher acting as a spy shadowing Tebow's every move. Urlacher's alignment in the middle discouraged Tebow from taking off on impromptu scrambles, and forced him make throws from the pocket.

The Bills, on the other hand, instructed their linebackers and nickel corner to exchange responsibilities on crossing routes. By switching on short and intermediate crossers, the Bills routinely took away Tebow's primary receiver and made him identify his second or third option under duress. As a result, he forced more balls into coverage and suffered through one of the worst performances of his career.

The decision to use more man coverage also neutralizes the effectiveness of the Broncos' receivers. Eric Decker, Matt Willis, Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas are unpolished route runners, and their inability to create separation is magnified when cornerbacks challenge them at the line of scrimmage. The Bills and Bears were both successful at disrupting the timing of the Broncos' passing game by using this tactic, so it wouldn't rank as a surprise to see the Chiefs utilize this approach considering their success against the Packers and others with press coverage.

Imagine That!!!..."M-M" Single Deep "S" Press...Where have we heard that before???

Keep Tebow confined to the pocket with a four-man rush

Oh!!..NO!!...This went out with the "Dark Ages" and is not functional in today's NFL!!!

Amazing that folks are making excuses for the Raiders lack of reliance on, and use of the TE.

First off, it's just an observation and it's a pretty obvious one at that.

The fact that Jackson is a rookie HC should make no difference. As OC, Jackson called Miller's number last year to the tune of 60 rec.

And to suggest Jackson calls low percentage plays because the defense is a liability is ridiculous.

If you want to keep the defense off the field, you run high percentage plays. Right?

FYI, we were winning the game against Detroit and only needed first downs when Jackson went deep down the sideline. Too, Bush was on a roll running the ball.

Maybe this discussion has gone far enough, but I can't believe the excuses. Again, it was only an observation.

As I stated before as my central theme, I hope Jackson finds his TE this Sunday. It would almost certainly surprise the Chargers to see the Raiders utilize their TE in the passing game.

There were a lot of questions raised but no answers. I would not be surprised to see Boss cut at the end of the year.

I do not want him cut, but I think there is some reason we are not using him other than Hue's ineptitude. We shall see.

I don't understand why Steve Corkran and others in the media think the Chargers will be "checking out" before or during the Raiders game. That's BS.

Here are some excerpts from SD players and media.

“Oh yeah,” said Weddle. “I don’t want the Raiders to go. ...We have control over one more game. We’ll try our hardest to spoil their season.”

"When last year ended so prematurely, the Chargers didn’t even have that much incentive for their last close-out game. Both they and the Broncos knew there would be no playoffs for either when the Chargers went to Denver and came up with one of their better performances, a 33-28 victory that left San Diego with at least a winning record to show for its struggles."

“We actually went in pretty fired up,” said fullback Jacob Hester. “We had a great pregame talk from a couple guys in the locker room. Shoot, I don’t even remember who it was talking, but I remember it being loud and I remember it being crazy in there."

If the Raiders aren't in the playoffs, I DON'T CARE WHO IS, EAST WEST, NORTH OR SOUTH. RAIDERS OR NOONE. A DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP WILL ONLY SUFFICE IN EVEN REMEMBERING WHAT HAPPENED NEXT YEAR IF THE RAIDERS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS BUDDY. (reminder: not a broncs fan at all. After decades as a Raider Fan, the Jamarcus Russel Brain Fart allowed me to become a Free Agent Fan for two seasons which toally sucked, thus discovering that my blood is in fact Silver and Black, BUT, I did LOSE the rose colored glasses and pompous ether that causes many a RaiderDude to think this organization is Committed to Excellence when, in fact, division sweeps without playoff berths seem "good enough". Maybe for some, fine. Not me. I want that Three Trophy Pic to have a fourth, and nothing short of that will cause me to uncross my arms and lose my Grudenesque smirk.

Silver and Blackians, let's do this...

Panty, BTW, your tests came back from the lab, blood is blacker and silverer than last year, yer good to go. BloodType AB Feisty.

NY Raider,
I actually think it is a good thing if Hue goes out of his way to banish scholarships. Bey has a decent season and some people act like he is the second coming of Timmy Brown. He still is not earning his money.

But, I am trying to be positive and I LOVE having something to play for in the last week of the season.

"NYR"...

You will like this:

-----------------------------------
Chargers Defensive rankings against specific reciever types:
WR1: #30
WR2: #21
WRO: #21
TE: #31
RB: #12

WRO = Other than #1 & #2 WR

Hue's plan should be fairly obvious here ... get the ball to the WR's and get the Boss involved, because they SUCK at defending against tight ends, and aren't great against WR's either.
