One Postgame Take

Well, that was...okay, I guess. Nothing spectacular, but nothing particularly disheartening, unless you were looking for a more vivid reassurance that Nnamdi won't be sorely missed.

As Steve Corkran noted in today's postgame analysis, "Simply put, there is no realistic way to replace a player of Asomugha’s considerable talent. It’s going to take heightened play from every defensive player to help offset the loss of Asomugha."

Well, it's obvious we're a work in progress on that front, and we've got about four weeks left to turn that goal into a reality.

With each passing day (pun intended), Denarius Moore is looking like the anti-DHB: an electric, sure-handed playmaker right out of the gates. Let's hope it's not just a mirage. But he took it from the practice field to the playing field last night, and that's a good sign.

Our quarterbacks all looked sharp, but it's not like we were playing against an elite foe for 60 minutes. In other words, it's probably way too early to come to any real conclusions about the state of the Raiders in 2011.

To be honest, if you asked me today, I would tell you that I won't be surprised if the Raiders fail once again to achieve a winning record. On paper, I'm not seeing exactly how we are going to improve over last year, particularly with what looks like a tougher schedule ahead.

At the same time, I also wouldn't be surprised if we contend for the division title. You can't see culture "on paper." And I believe that the Raiders culture may be reaching a turning point under the guiding hand of Hue Jackson.

I've been trying to put my finger on it, but then yesterday, in the comments section of the previous take, Calico Jack took the words out of my mouth (and improved them, which isn't the first time). Here's an excerpt:

I have been following Hue Jackson's interviews, press conferences, and activities throughout the off-season. There are a few things about him that I appreciate, admire, and find refreshing.

(1) Communication skills; he is genuinely a passionate, articulate, positive, enthusiastic communicator.

(2) Energy...His energy and call for up-tempo practices is contagious.

(3) The message itself; zero waffling or uncertainty about what this is all about...WINNING!

(4) Expectations; once again, Hue doesn't pull any punches or ease into the expectation that the Raiders will win the division THIS year, not next year. The bar is clearly set for 2011.

(5) Accountability; he makes no excuses for the team, the lockout, his 1st year as head coach.

Does it sound like I'm not sticking my neck out and making a bold prediction for 2011? Well, then, you got me, because I'm not, at least not yet. Check back with me later. But if you've got one, I'm all ears.

Under a different style of defense I would say the loss of Asomugha was no big deal but in the Raiders M2M coverage, he will be sorely missed. He neutralizes the other team's best WR.

10 penalties in last night's game, three by Barnes. This guy represent the current dud in a long string of OT failures. Send him up the Seattle with Cable.

I don't think I need to see much more to believe DHB is a bust. He is being schooled by a 5th round pick, after being schooled by a 4th round pick last year.

Fortunately, we finally have some talented players at WR in Ford, Moore, Schilens and Murphy.

Drafting Russell and DHB #1's has hurt this team. Russell was tougher to see coming (at least for me), but DHbust was a no brainer. Big mistake! We could have Eugene or Oher playing OT instead of Barnes.

Corkran previously suggested it's time for DHB to stop being a decoy and start playing. Yeah! Good luck with that.

I thought our corners looked awful. We need to go after Kelvin Hayden and we need to sign Lofa Tatupu to come in and play OLB or our defense is in trouble this season! Other then that, the offense looked good. Heyward bey is still a joke but Moore is a playmaker, he had nearly 40 receiving yards.

The Defense looks aggressive...BUT, as usual, will the Reg season look different once Al has the final say on the Defensive gameplan for the weeks ahead. Nnamdi said it, he said they do all different blitzes and coverages during pre season and then "for some reason" it goes back to the same ole gameplans during Reg season.
Warren Sapp also said that Mr.Davis steps all over the gameplans on Thurs and the players have to redo their assignments for game day.

Can't take what they are doing in pre season as what they will do in the Reg. Offense looks to want to work at a fast pace, that looks much better that a slow walk to the huddle, slow walk to the L.O.S....can't get too excited either way in the 1st preseason gm with such little practise. DB's look scary, D-line looks good.

Our pass defense deplorable. 2nd and 15, and couldn't stop them from gaining a first down; little to no pressure from the front. Sure they had their moments, but we went preventive on long down situations and couldn't pin them. That is what plagues our defense. We need to keep the pressure on, regardless of the situation. They didn't get into long down situations by giving the QB time to pick us apart.
Yes, we gained an overall 329 yards of total offense; but we gave their offense 400 yards; 290 of which were through passing.
Not impressed with that, especially since some of the toughest AFC/NFC teams are passing oriented teams (Patriots, Jets, Pittsburgh, Chargers, Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Packers, Vikings, Saints, etc).

"27-to-36" Which Is A Role Reversal Over Last Season...Rushes -to-Passes!!!

Our personality was different last night…We came out the gate as a Passing “O” rather than a Rushing “O”….Now a few things stick out about this that make me excited…

#1…It worked…And it worked to our "WR"s who caught 9/133yds…

#2…12/115yds went to our "RB"s-n-"TE"s so their production was still there…

#3…Only 13/36% hit the ground so our "QB"s were 64% efficient which is definitely an improvement….

#4…Our “QB” combined for only 2 Sacks losing a measly 14yds…Now that’s spectacular considering the last few seasons and such a young “OL”…

#5…Our passing game had 3 fumbles but didn’t lose any…That says we hustled to the “Pig” on the turf!!!

#6…Our "QB"s/“O” never turned that “Pig” over…No Int’s!!!

#7…Not everything was so great: Red Zone n 3rd dns were NOT!!!…Needs improvement…

Now it only the Preseason and I don’t expect this to be our personality out the gate in Denver but it’s really encouraging that we could and we did and without our primary weapons in this game…

Re: Pass "D" Sucks...

K. Kolb 4/7 for 68yds and NO points...

Play-by-Play for 1st possession:

1-10-ARI 20 (15:00) 26-C.Wells left guard to ARZ 20 for no gain (77-M.Shaughnessy).

2-10-ARI 20 (14:23) 4-K.Kolb pass incomplete short left to 11-L.Fitzgerald.

3-10-ARI 20 (14:18) (Shotgun) 4-K.Kolb scrambles left end pushed ob at ARZ 35 for 15 yards (33-T.Branch).

1-10-ARI 35 (13:50) 4-K.Kolb pass short left to 85-E.Doucet to ARZ 35 for no gain (24-M.Huff, 92-R.Seymour).

2-10-ARI 35 (13:50) 4-K.Kolb pass incomplete short left to 87-J.King.

3-10-ARI 35 (13:50) 4-K.Kolb scrambles left end to ARZ 39 for 4 yards (93-T.Kelly).

2nd Possession:

2-2-ARI 22 (9:40) (Shotgun) 4-K.Kolb pass deep left to 11-L.Fitzgerald to OAK 35 for 43 yards (31-H.Eugene).

1-10-OAK 35 (8:50) 4-K.Kolb pass incomplete deep left to 11-L.Fitzgerald.

2-10-OAK 35 (8:46) PENALTY on ARZ-85-E.Doucet, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at OAK 35 - No Play.

2-15-OAK 40 (8:46) 4-K.Kolb pass short right to 11-L.Fitzgerald to OAK 23 for 17 yards (22-W.McFadden).

1-10-OAK 23 (8:10) 26-C.Wells left end to OAK 8 for 15 yards (27-S.Brown, 52-Q.Groves).

1-8-OAK 8 (7:33) 26-C.Wells up the middle to OAK 3 for 5 yards (50-T.Goethel, 52-Q.Groves).

2-3-OAK 3 (6:56) 26-C.Wells up the middle to OAK 1 for 2 yards (79-J.Henderson).

3-1-OAK 1 (6:13) 26-C.Wells right guard to OAK 1 for no gain (90-D.Bryant, 78-T.Hill).

4-1-OAK 1 (5:30) (Shotgun) 26-C.Wells up the middle to OAK 1 for no gain (99-L.Houston, 31-H.Eugene)

Now if you look our "DB" starters were out of there at the end of that 1st possession and our back-ups gave up yardage to Fitz...Now Fitz will burn Namndi so this shows exactly what...

That are back-ups suck and need allot of development still...But our #1's stopped their #1's cold!!!..Not giving up a single yard to the pass!!!

So I think we need to give it a little more time before we start downgrading our Pass "D"...

I think the most disappoiting thing about the game was, the Raiders lost.

Now i know it's game # one of the pre season, but that's just an old Tom Cable excuse.

The Raiders need to establish an envionment of winning. A culture of success.

They cannot tell themselves that the "winning" will start in the regular season.

They do not have the luxury of acting like they can turn on a switch. Because this group does not have a proven track record.

Winning gets in the blood. It starts to snowball, and becomes contagious.

Before you know it, good habits are replacing bad ones. Each individual player takes on the responsibility of not wanting to be the one who "blows it". But instead rises to the challenge to perhaps be the "hero" of the game.

The excuses should end today, and the winning should start now.

I get your point and agree although I'm not really concerned about this weeks score...We got 4 "FG"s which some of those should have been "TD"s instead...If accomplished we would have scored 23/30 pts last night which would have been pretty good....

But if you believe preseason scores than "DC" is going to be good while "Pits" in on the rocks....Well OK...And "KC" really sucks while "TB" is an animal!!! Ha!! Ha!!...Not to mention Seattle knocking off "SD" and Dallas holding off those "MuleHeads"...

Now this should clear up any or your stupidity regarding Al Davis coaching this football team during the games: Take Note!!!

Q: How did things go with you in terms of red flag, timing, talking to Al up in the box? (This was in reference to offensive coordinator Al Saunders. Jackson took it to mean managing general partner Al Davis.)

A: I didn’t talk to Al up in the box. Let’s make that clear right now. I don’t know where that one came from. I was very comfortable. As I told you I have very good coaches who give me information.

So now time to stop all that stupid "BS"...Your just showing yourselves to be complete idiots!!!

Hue's Take:

"starting with the positives, just the tempo of the defense, the six plays that they were able to play, it was outstanding. Obviously, SeaBass was incredible in the game. The offense kept the ball for 31-plus minutes, 20 first downs. We threw the ball with more confidence and more assurance. There was only one three-and-out the whole football game. So, those were positives."

Q: You like that DeMarcus Van Dyke went up against Larry Fitzgerald right away?

A: Absolutely. And what I’m going to tell the young man, I’ve seen that man catch that ball on a lot of great cornerbacks. But the thing that was most impressive was the next opportunity that he had to cover him they threw another deep ball and he was right with him stride for stride and there was an opportunity there to make a good play on the ball. So I was impressed with this guy. He’s not afraid.

Q: Jared Veldheer seemed to do a nice job on Joey Porter, so is he a guy you’re more comfortable with out there at left tackle?

A: There’s no question, and I feel remiss to not mention him. He did a great job, too, I mean, Stephon, Jared, Sammy, (Joseph) Barksdale, those guys all did a real good job, and obviously Heyer. I thought those guys battled last night and I think they’ll get better as we go.

Not everything was a positive in this game but there were certainly enough positive to be excited about next week's game with "SF"...There was NO let down with the loss of Zack as both Boss-n-Ausbury stepped up...There was NO let down with the loss of Namndi as the 1st team "DB" played very very well...And there was NO let down by this "OL" without Gallery as Stefon Heyer was right there to take his place...

"I've seen him play both spots; I think he's capable," Haley said. "We've got to get him in football shape and try to get him into a position where he can compete."

Speculation Founded Upon Sound Reasoning On Hue's Past Life: "QB"s

We have already seen what appears to be a vast improvement in not only "JT" but also Kile Freakin Boller who I have NOT been impressed with in the least...Each threw incomplete passes but were 6/9 -n- 7/8 -w- 0 Int's...Not typical #'s for these last season...

Than there is Trent Edwards who as a new comer does not even know this "O" yet...But he was 10/19 140yd -n- "TD" -w- 0 Int's as well...Combined they only gave up 2 Sacks...Now for Raider "QB"s of late that's incredible...

Now it's well documented what Hue was able to do with a rookie "QB" in Baltimore...Joe Flaco...Who went from nobody to an instant success story in his 1st yr and it continued so NO Fluke!!...

So to what else could we contribute this remarkable improvement at "QB"...

Perhaps Al Saunders:

In the very shot time they have had to work with this "O" the improvements are quite noticeable..."QB"s are finding their "WR"s including "DHB"...Play calling is working...This very young "OL" is holding up...The tempo is high...The attitudes are exalted...And all this without several of our key personal even in the game....

"D-Mac"/Murphy/Ford -n- "TJ" were out while Chaz was out after only one play...But "Next Man Up" was working quite well...Surprisingly well...

It's hard to put allot into only one preseason game so more time is needed to evaluate anything here...But the "Ear Marks" of improvement are already seen and there's enough to build some pretty good excitement in anyone who wasn't a "Still Born Flat Liner" or "Bridge Walker"...But we have seen a few of them pretentious type hanging out around the Raider Nation!!!

A public announcement:

Preface: For those not up to speed, Pantry Raider insistently bet me that the Raiders would make a “splash” in free agency. Terms of the bet are listed on a previous thread and have been re-posted by PR about six times (to rub it in my face), so I won’t torture this site with another re-post of same. I will remind those who are tracking the bet that the loser is to leave Raider Take for one year.

I think it’s safe to say the Raiders have NOT made any kind of “splash” in free agency. So let’s not drag this out any more than necessary. It’s time to call this thing what it is.

Sure, the Raiders might sign a couple injury replacements and perhaps make a last minute roster move, but their intention in free agency is as clear as day; i.e., they will essentially keep the roster from last year in hopes that their 8-8 team can prove they were really an 11-5 team.

FYI, Kirk Morrison is the ONLY player left on the Top 80 Free Agent List compiled by PFT. Ouch!

http://tinyurl.com/3fcgdjn

Update: Steve Smith signed with the Skins and Gaither went to KC.

Not only did the Raiders NOT make a “splash” in free agency; they clearly lost ground in free agency.

We replaced Nnamdi with Chris Johnson (huge drop); Miller with Boss (marginal loss); and Gallery with, well, nobody (big drop off).

What’s the opposite of a “splash”?

It’s time to man up!

Let ANYONE come forward and present PR’s case for a “splash” in free agency, now or in the making. Otherwise, let’s get this over with! Just say goodbye!

The only "big name" free agent we signed was Kevin Boss who was a good replacement for the departed Zach Miller.

PR,

I don't want to hear you talk yourself into circles either.

Don't make the mistake of saying "Well CJ, Heyer is going to be a starter, blah, blah, blah."

Don't get me wrong. I want Heyer to succeed because he will be critical to our success.

BUT make no mistake about it. Heyer is NOT a "big name" free agent. I had NEVER heard of Heyer before we signed him.

Kevin Boss - replacement for Miller

Stephon Heyer - possible OG

Justin Smiley - Retired

Trent Edwards, Chad Jackson, Derek Hagan - fighting to remain on the roster.

All the other free agent signings are not worth listing.

Heyer was a backup for the Skins last year (12 games with five starts). Apparently, he injured himself during the Arizona game and his status is now uncertain.

Boss is the closest the Raiders came to signing a top tier player, and even that's questionable considering what we lost to create that need. Boss for Miller is not an even swap and certainly no "splash."

It's time to call this thing for what it really is... an underwhelming NON-SPLASH!

I fully expected the Raiders to bring back essentially the same team, and I'm okay with that. I believe they were better than their 8-8 record last year, which is why I thought Cable deserved another year.

I like Jackson, even if he does appear to be a bit of a "yes" man. He has a terrific energy and the players respond to him... so far.

FA Splash? Absolutely NOT!

At the end of the day, I can't believe that anyone who claims to know so much about the Raiders would even suggest a free agent splash for this season.

It was all Al Davis could do to keep the players he wanted from last year. Clearly, Miller was a surprise departure... enter Boss, whom the Raiders would not even have considered had Miller stayed.

It's time to man up and pay the bet!

“But I give him my input and, trust me, he listens. And he gives me his input, and on we march. And that’s what this things all about. It’s about working together, and the best way to work together is to be able to communicate. And we do that, and we do that well.”

The reason the Raiders haven't made any splash is because we were $15M+ over the cap just a few short days ago.

The Raiders plan was very simple and straightforward:

Do the best possible job retaining key players and add depth where needed.

The need for additional FAs this late into the preseason is a product of shoring up deficiencies, adding depth, creating competition, replacing departed FAs (Asomugha, Miller, Gallery), replacing retired FAs (hello Smiley), injured FAs (Eugene, Ford).

Clearly there was never any intention of making a splash in free agency which makes this bet a complete joke.

As demonstrated, ALL the top free agents are signed (some 80+/- players - GONE!). The only players left are second tier players that will get shuffled around as part of roster parings and injuries.

Clearly, there was NEVER any intention by Al Davis to be active in the free agent market. To deny this is to flat out lie... your favorite word!

Former Georgia RB Caleb King reportedly has over 20 NFL teams at his Pro Day Monday, Aug. 15.

No signs yet of Pryor which is a total sham!!!

Raider "OL":

Wisniewski has been so impressive, Jackson said, that the Raiders have to find a starting spot for him on the line, even if it mean moving him to left guard.

Stefen Wisniewski got most of his work Sunday as the first team left guard, with Samson Satele at center.

Heyer was signed to compete for a starting spot on the line, and he has made the most of his opportunity so far. He is working at guard and tackle as a means of making himself more versatile.

See I told you so!!!

For the second straight day, fan groups were invited to mingle with players on the field after practice, a new policy this season. Booster clubs visited with players Sunday, a day after season ticket holders did the same.

Interesting exchange from Cable's Q&A.

Q: Is Jacoby currently a starter?

Cable: Based on our health at that position, yes.

Q: So you expect him to be out there this week, or do you have to wait until the corpse wakes up and tells you what to do?

You think he/she means Al Davis?

5:28 PM

nyraider said...

PR - don't get your panties in a bunch over the Q&A I posted. I don't condone it. If that’s a jab at Al Davis it is disrespectful beyond belief. I’m surprised Herrera wasn't there to flex his paper muscles and escort that person out of the PC.

And how does the fact that any of us have or have not played competitive sports have any bearing on why the Raiders can't figure out how to be competitive?

Suddenly you're more qualified to judge WRs because you played pop warner football and have a booster club membership card? Don't you realize how ridiculous that is?

As for the Q&A, I was genuinely shocked by the statement. That's why (and the only reason) I posted it. In the few years I've been here at RT, I have never dissed the man in that way, and don’t expect others to, especially professional media. That’s totally uncalled for and, as I said, unprofessional. I remain a fan of Al Davis, despite that I disagree with the way he runs the team. Whether you chose to believe that or not really makes no difference to me. It’s a fact.

3:21 PM

nyraider said...

Ok, something very strange happened.

The Q&A I posted this morning was verbatim from J-Mac’s blog. I went back to it and found the content in question had been removed. I then searched the web for another transcript and found the same language as now posted on J-Mac’s site.

I assure you, this is not a hoax, at least not by me.

The perpetrator is either the author of the Q&A section I read this morning or it was removed (A) because it was distasteful and classless, or (B) to protect the media individual who made the comment.

I would like to email J-Mac and ask, but I am unable to find his email address (which is no surprise considering all the nuts he would hear from, today me being one).

I have no answer. If you want to believe I made it up, I have no proof that I didn’t. However, I assure you I did not. As I said, I posted it verbatim, in pure shock that it was said. I have stood behind every post I've ever made on this site. I have no problem accepting what is fact and acknowledging when I'm wrong.

However, this is pure mystery. Perhaps it will surface again in some fashion. Hard to believe that could get put out there then removed without a trace.

Open Competition is the name of the game!!!

– Safeties Matt Giordano and Josh Bullocks got work in the depleted Raiders secondary. A pair of former second-round draft picks in 2005, they’ll be given every chance to win a roster spot, according to Jackson.

Soon to have our key weapons back!!

– A helmetless Darren McFadden took a few handoffs in an early drill before taking the rest of the practice off. Jacoby Ford is no longer wearing a protective sleeve on his broken left hand, but the hand remains swollen and has a sizable surgical scar.

Our scouting dept is really very good....And "Some' continue to take swipes at our "Front Office"!!!...Just a Fool!!!

– Hard to imagine seventh-round pick David Ausberry not making the 53-man roster based on his play throughout camp. Ausberry would be a much bigger story of not for fifth-round pick Denarius Moore.

“He is a tremendous find for us. He’s doing some great things,” Jackson said. “He is a matchup nightmare for most people. He can catch, he can run, he learns well, so we’re excited that he’s a part of our organization.”

But do those "IAAF"ers ever give the man credit for the good job he has done like in finding Ford/Murphy/Bush/Houston/Veldheer/"DeathRo"/"McD"/"ShawNasty" in the draft who are all starters and bringing in "FA"s like Reece/Seymour/Whimbley not to mention several others....NO!!!...They just continued to promote their ridicules "Hate Trips" as usual!!!

Going to be really tough on them to "Nut Up" now if Cambell/Barksdale/Moore/"TJ"/Ausburry/Wiz II and others break out this season too....

PR,

If a journeyman free agent ends up starting it hardly qualifies as a "splash" or "big name" free agent signing.

The reason these journeymen free agents were signed (Stephon Heyer, Chad Jackson, Derek Hagan, Josh Bullocks Matt Giordano) was for camp competition and depth in case of injuries.

I figured you would try to twist the context of the original bet into a pretzel. Not necessary.

The bet was simple:

The Raiders need to make a splash in free agency by signing 2 big name free agents.

To date, the only big name free agent we've signed was Kevin Boss who was signed as a direct consequence of Miller departing.

Now on to the business at hand:

More "FA"s in the market place and both at a position of need...

Originally drafted as a Raider:

METAIRIE, La. -- Less than two years after Jon Stinchcomb helped the Saints win a Super Bowl and received a Pro Bowl bid, the five-year starter at right tackle is back on the NFL job market.

The Saints released Stinchcomb on Monday, one day after coach Sean Payton said versatile veteran Zach Strief and 2010 second-round draft choice Charles Brown would be competing for the starting job at right tackle.

Al loves 1st rd picks...

1st Rd Pick "09" "LB" Released...

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills ran out of time and patience in waiting for linebacker Aaron Maybin to develop before being left with little choice but to waive the former first-round pick on Monday.

“He put so much into it, but there wasn’t any appreciable improvement,” coach Chan Gailey said following the team’s evening practice in suburban Rochester. “It was better to do it now than to do it later.”

Selected 11th overall in the 2009 draft out of Penn State, Maybin failed to register a sack or even break into the team’s starting lineup in 27 career games.

Maybin struggled keeping his weight up, which made it difficult for him to outmuscle opposing offensive linemen. He entered the NFL listed at 250 pounds, but had reported to camp last month listed at 228 pounds.

“That’s the reason we took a little longer. We needed him and we wanted him to come through,” Nix said. “He did everything he could do. He practiced hard. He hustled. He did everything you asked of him. It just didn’t work out.”

If we sign 1 player who is a big upgrade over the existing starter or departed player, that would be what a BIG name, tier 1 FA is all about.

Anything less is just white noise.

his would be my projected off-season scoreboard:

Losing Ski and gaining Edwards: A wash

Losing Gallery and gaining Smiley: A wash

Losing Miller and gaining Boss: A slight downgrade but vital to get Boss in the fold.

Losing Asomugha and inserting Routt as #1 CB paired with #2 CB Johnson:
Significant downgrade but somewhat expected.

Boss was a good signing. By all accounts Boss is an upgrade over Miller in terms of run blocking and pass blocking. He also gets the nod in finding the end zone and being more physically imposing. Miller was more productive in total receptions, as go to receiver, converting 3rd downs, and total yards.

Now look at it very closely as I break it all down for you:

#1...As posted:

I will wager that Mr Davis makes a splash in "FA" this season....

This was in direct response to "CJ"/"NYLiar and others posting that Al Davis was so strapped for $$$ that he would NOT be signing ANY "FA"s....I posted NOT to try to tie his hands over $$$$ because he will do as he pleases to build his team....This had NOTHING to do with what players were let go or not signed nor did it have anything to do what where a player was drafted...Late round and "UDFA" can and have made names for themselves too...It's New "FA" Starters Only!!!

#2...Clarification:

At least one big name player if not 2....

It specifically noted "One" and than possibly "Two"...Than out of consideration for "NYLiar"s constant CRYING I allowed to to go to "Two"....That was a concession on my part and NOT as originally stated in this challenge....But don't you demand I make further concessions for your apparent weaknesses and lack of intestinal fortitude to stand as MEN and honor that which you have already signed off on!!!..I simply won't give you any more!!!

#3....Projected Possibilities:

"QB"s...Vince Young/Carson Palmer
"WR"s...Vincent Jackson/Plaxaco Burris
"OT"....________________________
"OLB"...________________________
"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

These names were NOT written in stone...They were merely "Examples" of what was to be considered "Big Name Players"..."Projected Possibilities"...Now look at that list while I break it down for you:

Vince Young...1st rd pick who was considered by many a Bust...Put together one good season making the "PB" followed by a season of disgust and kicked off his team...Had few seasons where he started all yr...

Carson Palmer a regular starter who failed to post great #'s and was now a Crier demanding to be traded/released or retired...

Vincent Jackson former 2nd rd pick who posted good #'s but became a complete malcontent and was in the middle of holding out...Failed to play last season until late and failed to make any bid for returning to the "PB"...

Plaxico Burris was a former productive player who's off field problem landed him in jail and he has not posted a single stat in the past 2 seasons....

"OT"....________________________
"OLB"..._______________________

Un-named candidates who would become starters for the Raiders...This must first and foremost be available "FA"s and NOT players who's teams lock them up to keep them from moving on...This is NOT a list of the "Top Players At Their Positions"....It's legitimately available players who have been starters will be starters on my football team...

1:12 AM
Blogger PantyRaider said...

"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

This was specified and a name was posted as a possible player who would be available...NOT the only available player who may be taken here...

#4..."more than 1 "big name, tier 1" external FA who are legit. starters."

That was your posted definition as posted...The criteria is that they would have to be "Starters"...In the past and now....As was this:

"If the Raiders sign 1 or 0 "big name" tier 1 external FAs starters, PR would walk."

Again the posted criteria was "Starter"....

#5...Now notice how you try to move those "Rubber Walls" of yours and change the parameters of this challenge:

" If we sign 1 player who is a big upgrade over the existing starter or departed player, that would be what a BIG name, tier 1 FA is all about."

"Clearly there was never any intention of making a splash in free agency which makes this bet a complete joke."

"If a journeyman free agent ends up starting it hardly qualifies as a "splash" or "big name" free agent signing."

#6...It has been unanimously agreed that Keven Boss is one "Top Tier FA Starter" so now we need just one more or none to settle the issues....

#7...Other "FA"s have already been signed who have been legitimate starters at some point on their former teams so if they now become "Starters" on the Raider's 53 man roster they will count in this challenge just like the names I posted as examples would all have counted including the one who hasn't posted a stat in two freakin seasons!!!

#8...As I have warned..."Don't step is something that don't wash off"...

You don't get to scream and kick because YOU failed to read the fine print nor do you get to change the contract after signed sealed and delivered here at "RT"s place...It's now a mater of public record and I can assure you will be posted throughout "CtberSpace" if you fail to live up to what you have agreed to...Ya know once you drove the used car off my lot you owned it...NO Returns Accepted!!!

WR-Randy Moss, TO, Santonio Holmes, Steve Smith, Plaxico Burress

Safeties-Quintin Mikell, Atari Bigby, Bernard Pollard, Roman Harper

We signed Kevin Boss. The only Free Agent signing that made a splash. I think had we signed Nnamdi, Seymore, and Boss/Miller along with the likes of Gaither; we would have had a huge free agency signing. We lost Nnamdi, Zach, and Gaither. I don't think we made any significant head way in the free agency signings.

That is not to say that this period isn't over, especially with players being/or on the verge of being cut. Let's see how our roster lines up after everything is said and done. If we can pull in a top tier cut player, then I would be surprised. I think our focus needs to be O-Line, WR, and WOLB.

Your posts here prove you are a little child mentally. I can only imagine all the other blog sites you have infected.

It is abundantly clear that the outcome of this bet will be unilaterally decided. You make the rules, period!

Instead of beating your chest and jumping up and down, perhaps you can explain how the Raiders have, or plan to make a "splash" in free agency.

Where’s the evidence?

Raider Nate 75...

Most all the "OT"s and several "G"s just resigned with their own teams so very few were available unless someone wanted to break the bank for them...

"KC" signed Jared Gaither and than admitted he's not ready to compete yet because he's too lame...Which is no doubt the reason the Raiders passed on him....

But others are now available:

Jon Stinchcomb "RT" 5 yr starter/"PB"er from the Saints...

Bryant McKinnie "LT" Vikes...

"OLB" 1st rd pick: Aaron Maybin released from Buffalo...

Tatupu "LB" released by Seattle...

"S" Atari Bigby is yet unsigned and was an "UDFA" in "05" who made a name for himself and won a ring with "GB"...

So yes...Names remain on the board so it's far from over yet...

With three weeks until the 2011 season officially kicks off, there are still plenty of personnel moves to be made. According to league sources, most teams still have plenty of money to spend before reaching their salary cap limitations. In fact, only the St. Lous Rams are currently over the cap total.

As of this morning, here is the breakdown of each team’s current total salary number, along with their available cap space. The 2011 salary cap is $120.375 — but each team has a slightly different number due to adjustments based on cap rules pertaining to the $3 million veteran cap exemptions or a re-allocation of money into 2009 from 2011.

Now add to that $5.1 Mil the $3.5 Mil that can be borrowed against future years and the Raiders have $8.6 Mil in their pockets...

This Dose Not Take Effect Until The "CBA" Takes Effec..."Dead $$$$ Relief"

Article 11 of the new CBA contains the rules that will allow the league to transition into the new league year, and buried among the many items within it is the following subsection:

Section 5. Salaries and Salary Cap Accounting:

….(b) Proration From Preexisting Contracts. ….(i) No signing bonus proration to the League Years of this Agreement shall apply for any Preexisting Contract that was terminated, traded or assigned via waivers prior to March 11, 2011….

Nmamdi was freed as of 3/4 so this will apply to all his dead money and to any other dead money outstanding from any other player who is no longer with the team…It was speculated that this would account for some $17 Mil of the Cap…If so we will be some $5 Mil to the good…

Also this does not include the $3.5 Mil allowance and the $3 Mil that can be borrowed against future years...

Even though free agency isn't over by any means, as far as the Raiders making a splash in it, just hasn't happened.
I'm not saying you lost Panty, because the market is still open, but you better have your bags packed because if it ends today the way it is; the Raiders have not made a splash in free agency.

This article pretty much tells the roster story, with most of the Raiders team remaining the same as last year.

http://tinyurl.com/3co9xlo

45 players are labeled locks by Steve Corkran, leaving only 8 roster spots for approximately 35-37 players to fight for... with at least one or two headed for IR.

Davis hasn't pursued top tier free agents this year, and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.

2011 Raiders = 2010 Raiders...

I wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders sign 1 or 2 more players.

However, any add-ons will be journeymen cut from their squad who would be signed to add depth to our roster.

All the true "Top Tier" free agents are signed already. Sure there are a few "big name" FAs out there but there is a reason that these players are in the market ... injury concerns, past their shelf life quality, or marginal players at best.

The lack of a "splash" in free agency means the Raiders will need impact seasons from a few rookies and rely on improved performances from key 2-4 year players.

True as you post but that's the fun in this...Now the "Sup-Draft has been postponed because it's not able to give Pryor his chance yet and that's also a part of this process...So the game goes on until the 1st regular season game and a view of that final starting roster at which time there should be NO disputes....

"Should" is presenting with doubt because of all this ridicules crying -n- lying which I find completely unnecessary...

NFL | Supplemental draft delayed
Tue, 16 Aug 2011 16:09:27 -0700

The National Football League postponed the supplemental draft, which was scheduled to be held Wednesday, Aug. 17. Teams will be advised of the new date once it is determined. It is still unknown if former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor will be eligible.

You are trying to tie Al's hands again which is a mistake...Now please!!!...How the hell are you going to disqualify a player like Tatupu if it happens as reported...Or Hayden who yet remains unsigned...Or "LB" "Capt Kirk" who could still fill a need...Or "OT"s like "RT" Jon Stinchcomb -or- "LT" Bryant McKinnie who both fill a need...Or a high 1st rd pick like "OLB" Aaron Maybin...

Go ahead and try posting your case now and you will see how foolish this all is...

This is what I project the Raiders will/could/should do with their new Cap $$$$'s....

#1...Address the "OL"

A...Cut Cooper at "LG" and add his $3.5 Mil to their "Pot-o-Gold"...Looks like "Wiz II" will nail down his "RG" position and we have a young backup in Campbell already on the roster...

B...Barksdale looks to be our future at "RT" but I don't feel easy about coming out the gate with two rookies on the right side so we need to sign a "RT"...Both of these players would be upgrades at that position:

"RT" Jon Stinchcomb
"LT" Bryant McKinnie

Barkdale as depth

C...Satele plays "C"
Stephon Heyer @ "LG" -w- Loper as depth
Veldheer @ "LT" -w- Heyer as Depth

#2....Address "LB":

Tatupu would be an upgrade here...

Also there has been some talk about moving "DeathRo" outside while Tatupu nails down "MLB"...I don't know what's best here until we see it in play...

"Capt Kirk" could also be a worthwhile addition if Tatupu is not signed...

Whimbley -n- "DeathRo" are written in stone...

There may be other moves on the table but this is my best expectations...Things I don't expect is:

"RB"
"WR"
"TE"
"DL"
"S"
"P/K"

So the only other area would be at "CB"...Hayden has been mentioned in reports...

I suspect the team is wanting to look at what they have prior to making a decision here...Slow yes but also very thoughtful while not letting themselves get hooked into a "Feeding Frenzy" like others have done...

Bresnahan prolley wants a better view of what he has and so does our new "OL" coach...

PR, I wouldn't call drafting Pryor in the Supplemental as a successful free agent signing. He's unproven. Sure, he's top in the supplemental draft, but that is it.
If we brought in Jon Stinchcomb, that would be epic as it would fill an immediate need. The only other 2 players cut from the o-line with significant play is Bryant McKinnie (Vikings) and Billy Yates (Browns). Yes, I'd pursue Stinchcomb and cut Barnes. If we did that (and I doubt we will), then you may have an argument.

5:49 AM
Blogger PantyRaider said...

Raider Nate 75...

Yes either would also be an upgrade over Barns...I was actually thinking of Langston Walker when I post it but Barns is definitely not the man to start the season with...I think I would feel more comfortable with a rookey Barksdale who at least won't false start so much...Maybe!!!...

We already brought in Stephon Heyer -n- Justin Smiley so that shows an intent to improve our "OL" with veteran "FA"s but Smiley was a sham and retired...So I fully expect we will go after another "OL" player and expect it to be for "RT"...With these guys still available I'm hoping we pull that trigger very soon...

Tatupu was already brought in and interviewed and was reportedly offered a deal to move to "OLB" but as reported he wants to start at "MLB"/"ILB"...Not sure if he has any other offers and the reports are that we continue to talk so that's premising...I think this shows an intent to improve threw "FA"s so I suspect the Raiders have others in mind also...Maybe even a trade if we have anything to deal...

As far as the "Sup-Draft" goes it was just part of the deal and specified as such at the time with Pryor's name the only one on record at that time...That has changed with the additions at "DL" -n- "RB"...But Pryor is definitely a big name when it comes to rookies...31-n-4 record 2 time MVP with size/speed/hands that translates as "Slash" in the NFL...

Fair enough ... come Sept. 12th we will know if the Raiders made a splash in free agency.

Quite frankly, this is getting silly, embarrassing, boring, and stupid on a lot of levels.

If the signing of a replacement (Boss) and potentially a "possible" starter is enough to qualify as a 'splash', then forgive me for my ignorance but the word credibility has no meaning.

But here's the deal...

Huff may make the transition to "CB" where he's needed and consequently one of those newly signed "FA" "S" gets the stating nod...

-OR-

The Raiders go out and sign another "FA" "CB"...

Murphy/Chaz are our starters but we have bodies already so prolley won't bring in any extra help from "FA"s...

So now we've downgraded Top Tier free agent to "starter"? So if Heyer can beat out Khalif Barnes or Daniel Loper to start somewhere on a grossly understaffed offensive line then he's a "TOP TIER" free agent? Wrong!

Or if our regular starters become injured and we need to find a last minute replacement, that's automatically "TOP TIER" free agent? Wrong again!

What a tool!

That's nothing more than a weasel trying to get out of a bet that his mouth made and his mental midget brain can't cash.

No, PR, I didn't sign off on "2 legitimate Starters".

I signed off on the Raiders making a legitimate "splash" in free agency by signing 2 Top Tier free agents.

Just so we clear, it is a given that a top tier free agent is a starter because a top tier free agent is one of the better players at his position.

Conversely, a starter is not always considered a top tier free agent. There are countless players on all 32 teams who start but are not top tier free agents (if in the market). Middle tier? Yes. Top tier? No.

Anyone who thinks Stephon Heyer is a Top Tier free agent has no clue.
Signing Boss to replace Pro Bowl Miller is hardly a "splash" ... it was necessary, it was a good signing, it was reactive, but don't get things twisted.

The notion of starter = top tier free agent is seriously flawed. By your definition, if Heyer beats out Carlisle (or Carlisle is cut and Heyer starts) than Heyer should be classified as a top tier free agent. Wrong. Heyer is a journeyman OL who I had never heard of before we signed him.

Raiders | Michael Huff to play rover
Thu, 18 Aug 2011 08:07:54 -0700

Oakland Raiders FS Michael Huff will start at free safety in the team's base defense but will move to cornerback in the nickel, lining up close to the line of scrimmage and covering slot receivers. "That's my (University of) Texas days, playing free, strong, nickel, play dime a little bit," Huff said. "That way I get to blitz more without the offense knowing."

Clearly, conditions of the bet have become a moving target. The bet no longer has anything to do with making a "splash" in free agency.

He is weaseling out of his own bet. That was totally predictable. He said top tier, but he really meant anyone signed to the roster who can either beat out an underperforming incumbent or is an injury replacement.

This clown knows so little about the Raiders he couldn't see that Davis wasn't hot in the market for free agents, and now he's desperately clinging to marginal acquisitions to win his bet.

2008 9/7

TOTAL 49/33 67.3%

------------------------------
Heyer has started a total of 33 games out of a possible 64 games played (16 games per season). Nice math Sherlock.

So Heyer has started 51% of the games the past 4 years ... So what? Are you ignorant enough to equate starting 33 games that past 4 years as meaning Heyer is a "top tier" free agent? Laughable.

Making a splash by signing Top Tier
free agents has morphed into any transaction where a player is added to the roster. Priceless.

Boss is one (even though the Raiders gained nothing due to the loss of Miller).

I gave you Pryor as a possible in our bet but I would argue that any side bet you have with CJ does not include Pryor. That one is on me only.

No matter how you slice this thing, you were dead wrong about Davis making a splash in free agency. At the end of the day, you know far less than you think you do about Al Davis and the Raiders. Maybe you can stop kidding yourself and eat some humble pie for a change.

Whether I win or lose, there's no "splash". You were dead wrong! You were too busy pimpin' your dreams and pushing it in my face as the truth. Does that make you a liar?

9:50 AM
Blogger nyraider said...

FYI, Heyer is a tackle. Let's hope he has no problem starting at RT for the Raiders, but that doesn't make him a top tier free agent. In order to get that job, he will only have to outplay Khalif Barnes. Barksdale is a rookie and will probably get reps later in the season.

Early report is that Carlisle is on a mission. He has been strong at RG. If heathly, Satele is almost a lock at C. Wiz II is more versitale and will be asked to play LG, at least temporarily.

Veldheer is the prize of the line, and turns out to have been a tremendous find by the Raiders. Kudos to Al Davis.

Bruce Campbell is still a project. My guess is he may never break into starter. That doesn't make him a bad pick (in the 4th). It's still a good risk.

According to Steve Corkran, DHB is 5th WR on his personal depth chart. 5th WR in his 3rd year equals major bust! He has rookies and 2nd year players outperforming him on a regular basis.

Sounds appropriate, assuming the decision is ALL Hue Jackon's to make. When it comes to personnel (draft or gameday), most of us know there is a higher voice on the Raiders. DHB is listed on the official website depth chart as #1. Let's see how far, if at all, he actually drops.

Of course, we can always use a good downfield blocker.

#1...I do believe the Raiders' coaches have their say in who plays and who starts...For prof of that look no further than last season and Al's distaste for the way Cable refused to play Campbell all season long and even had him inactive at the end...Than now when the kid finally get's a chance it's reported that he looks good at "G"...Than too Lance refused to play "JePurpleDrank"...Now how did he do that if he didn't have his say...Than he also cut a 3rd rd pick that he didn't like...Moss...Gruden didn't like Jeff George and it showed and he made it rough on him til things imploded...Al traded Randy Moss for a measly 4th rd pick because the "HC" refused to play him...The evidence goes on and on if your have the incite to view it...

#2...Many NFL Franchises have a preference regarding some of their players...If they signed a big name or drafted him high or made a trade than they expect him to play not sit on the bench...Coaches are generally expected to carry out those preferences and there has been reports of strife over this many many times in the NFL and virtually every other spot...Several "HC"s have complained because they don't have enough say regarding their rosters and who they put on the field...Just look at "SD" and the reasons why Shotty was run and Turner replaced him...Than the "Rat" who finally got it in his contract that he has that authority...Jeff Fisher didn't like "VY" and finally things blew up to the point of incorrigibility...That "HC"s job was also on the line and authority was stripped from him...Than he was fired after the team announced that "VY" would be let go...How many more examples do you need to see the truth here...

#3...From all reports "DHB" is looking good...So if he wins a starting role are you going to step up to the plate and give Mr Davis the credit he deserves for seeing the talent and sticking with it til developed...

And isn't that one of the digest gripes about our team in recent history...That they never develop the talent they have and it's developed after the players are allowed to leave...Like Charles Woodson -n- Phillip Buchanan who were both high 1st rd picks that "SOB" failed to utilize properly and now starters in winning programs elsewhere...

Than they hear my loud laughter from somewhere above and twist to pier onward...I'm seen here perched on this huge bolder while looking down and they scream in anxiety at my presence realizing I did this to them with purpose -n- pleasure!!!...

Now it appears that NYLiar has his stash bag full of "Cats Eyes" and they desire to knock me off my perch by tossing those tiny spears my way...

All the while a fat short-n-pudgy JUDAS runs around that slime pit exclaiming salvation they owe to his gods who speak TRUTH threw him like some Deity sanctioned in antiquity!!!

OOO!..Ouch!!...OOOO! Ouch!!...

That hurts my big toe as their glass marbles crack on the bolder beneath my feet...My laughter grows even louder as they twist and try to wind up for another assault!!!

1. Is linebacker Lofa Tatupu still an option for the Raiders?

A: He is an option. However, the fact the Raiders brought in Tatupu for a workout early in camp and didn’t offer him a contract portends Tatupu’s health being a concern, he was asking for too much money or he wasn’t willing to accept the role offered him at the time.

The other issue is, Tatupu is a middle linebacker. That position is locked down by second-year player Rolando McClain. So, Tatupu would be signed only as a backup and occasional situational player.

It’s conceivable that the Raiders are hoping that Tatupu won’t find another team willing to let him compete for a starting spot, which would drive down Tatupu’s asking price and make him more inclined to accept a backup role.

Same logic applies to former Raiders middle linebacker Kirk Morrison.

3. Are the Raiders going to select Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor in the Supplemental Draft on Monday?

A: There’s a distinct possibility. With that said, it likely wouldn’t be until the fifth round or later because the Raiders are without a second- and fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, and they would be hesitant to use a first- or third-rounder on a player who isn’t a sure thing at quarterback.

But a player with Pryor’s talent is worth a gamble, even if he winds up playing another position. If he can succeed at quarterback, great. If not, make him the next Ronald Curry.

Jason La Canfora NFL Network

Smells like a fit for the Raiders
The Oakland Raiders have no commitment to Jason Campbell beyond this season and have hardly sent signals that he is definitely the guy there long-term. And we know how Al Davis can fall for athletes and there is enough talent to intrigue. Pryor is going to go late in the supplemental draft and will come cheap. The Raiders are in need of a developmental quarterback.

Our experts debate the NFL's hot-button topics:
» Do rule changes take excitement out of kickoffs?
» Should Pryor be eligible for supplemental draft?
» Did Patriots do right thing in sitting Brady?
» What are best revenge games of 2011 season?
» Will a team take a chance on controversial T.O.?
I know Pryor wants to be a QB, but the Raiders also could use receivers and some scouts see a future for this kid more as someone catching passes rather than throwing them. He's already got a bit of a reputation and is leaving Columbus under a cloud -- the Raiders have been collecting guys like that for as long as we can remember.

After blowing it on a quarterback with the first overall pick, the Raiders might as well take a shot on one with a late-round supplemental pick.

Pat Kirwan NFL.com

Pryor's stock is on the rise
The team that puts in the highest bid in the supplemental draft for Pryor should be one with an older starting quarterback. Not necessarily an old QB, but a guy who might not be right for the job in two years. It would be best if Pryor goes to a team that doesn't need to put him on the field until at least 2012.

I have already had one general manager change his mind on Pryor. After suggesting a fourth- or fifth-round pick would land Pryor, the GM now feels a third- or fourth-rounder might be the target area. Three teams that should give legitimate thought to Pryor include the Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins.

The whole premise of making a free agent splash is to add top tier, elite talent to an existing foundation or base of talent.

Since when is this a splash;

Lose Miller, a pro bowl player, and add a player who was less productive in his 1st 4 years. Wash at best.

Lose Asomugha, a multiple pro bowl performer and shuffle the deck to Routt as #1 and CJ #2. Downgrade.

Lose Gallery at LG and go with a rookie or journeyman FA in Heyer or backup journeyman in Loper. Downgrade.

Simple question that boils this debate down to the bare essence:

In what position did we upgrade by adding an external free agent?

Presently it appears "Wiz II" is taking that job at "LG"...I thought it might be on the right side where he played in college but not so in practice...So there's no wash there...It's an upgrade by the draft...

Stephon Heyer -n- Bruce Campbell are competing for the job held by Cooper...Either will be an upgrade at that position whether threw the draft or "FA"...

Barksdale is competing to take Barns' "RT" job which would easily be an upgrade threw the draft...

We only have one "FA" competing on the "OL" at this time which I fully expect will change...

Namndi...We did not just lose him...He failed to achieve the slightest stat that would have kept him on the roster...One Int!!!...That's on him and nobody else and may have been intentional...I did say may have been...So he was already gone and we couldn't franchise him or anything else...The only thing we could have done is pursue him as an URFA like any other team but he had his own will to go where he wanted so that's that...Move on...Next Man Up!!!...

Zack was left unsigned apparently for 2 reasons...

#1..Reportedly he turned down a substantial amount of $$$$ before the Lock-Out when we thought he was locked up as a RFA like Bush...

#2..The teams was unwilling to meet his demands and could go in a different direction which they did for a whole lot less $$$ and lost nothing substantial in the process...

So in evaluation your perceived loses are just the way that ball bounced and nothing more...

The whole idea of making your team better is letting marginal players go and replacing them with better talent.

The Raiders have taken the opposite approach this off-season.

Coming off an 8-8 season in which the HC was fired, returning Raider free agents were given huge pay increases.

So the Raiders grossly overpaid to retain their marginal players and waived all interest in their most talented and/or consistent FA players.

It's been the anti-splash mother of all off-seasons.

Our primary hope rests on developing young players and a roll of the dice... once again.

Panty, I hate to say it, but the Raiders have not made a splash in Free Agency. The whole idea of the "splash" to me is if we lose good players, we replace them with equal or better players.
We've done that in one position (TE). We have not done that with the loss of Nnamdi; nor have we done that in the offensive line. We had a chance to let Barnes, Gallery, Carlisle, and Langston Walker go and grab Gaither, Stinchcomb, Harvey Dahl, Deuce Lutui, and/or Tyson Clabo. Did not happen. Instead, we've let Gallery and Mario Henderson go, and re-signed Barnes, Carlisle. In my humbled opinion (which is neither humble nor an opinion; but rather an arrogant fact); Gallery and Henderson are better than Barnes and Carlisle; but we kept the latter and surrounded these losers with a bunch of unproven rookies. NOT AN UPGRADE! POTENTIAL IS NOT AN UPGRADE, POTENTIAL IS UNPROVEN, AND VIEWED ON WHAT THEY COULD BECOME! THEY MAY NOT LIVE UP TO THEIR POTENTIAL (hence why we let Henderson go).

We signed Chris Johnson (injured) and Stanford Routt before we attempted to sign Nnamdi; basically telling Nnamdi we didn't want him and let him walk to Philly. Again, not an upgrade.

This offseason was by no means a success in the free agent market. Drafting potential players is not making a splash, it is gearing up for the future. The Raiders' present team is not going to build off of an 8-8 season. To think otherwise is ludicrous.

Please check that list to get the names straight as to who the Raiders have signed...I get real tired of making corrections but do it because it's important to keep things factual and honest...No need for confusion -n- falsehoods....

Satele was resigned at "C" and Barns at "RT" -n- Loper as "G"...

Now how does that reference to "Stupid Mario" at "LT" who already lost that job or Gallery at "LG" who was not coming back of his own will..Not even the same positions...

We also signed Stephon Heyer who was an "OT" but will now play "G"...

"RG" Cooper was already on the roster but may loose his starting job very soon and perhaps roster spot as well...

The "OL" is still in a state of flux...

Cris Johnson was already on the roster so no transaction there...Routt was resigned 02/25/2011 after it was known that we lost Namndi who walked away because that's what he wanted to do same a Gallery...

Now as far as the "Splash" goes that was defined as 1 or 2 "FA" starters from other teams who would be starters as well in Oakland....We now have one in Boss and who's next is still yet unknown...But rest assured that names will be there and when it is it will be posted right here will all the other transactions...

Very simple answer: "TE"

Boss is equal talent at 1/4 the price which certainly constitutes an upgrade that allows us more Cap $$$ to bring in additional players...

Another area is at "S"

Matt Giordano and Josh Bullocks have been added as veteran depth where we had very little making it possible for Huff to transition to a "Romer" "S"/"CB" in our new Coverage Scheme...

WR Derek Hagan brings a set of veteran hands to our "O" that was lacking as a possession type receiver...

WR Chad Jackson also adds to the equation if he makes the team...

QB Trent Edwards is an upgrade as #3 "QB" over anyone else we had on the roster and may be our #2...

RB Louis Rankin was also added if he makes the roster...

Increasing DBs in numbers doesn't make them better.

Didn't you read Huff's quote? You can't replace Asomugha with one player.

Our secondary lost it's best player, and maybe the best player on defense.

Nnamdi's specialty is press coverage. Since that's what the Raiders do 90% of the time, his loss is tremendous.

If we played more zone, we could get by with numbers.

Davis has placed a premium on CBs for as long as I can remember. He finally has the best in the NFL - who comes without the baggage of past CBs - and he lets him walk.

It's all part of the anti-splash this offseason.

New "FA" "WR"...

Hagan had another impressive day of practice Thursday, catching out routes, slants, whatever came his way. He is making it difficult for the Raiders to overlook.

Sure enough, Hagan said, without prompting, that his film study plays a vital part in his success.

“That’s just studying film and knowing how to run routes,” Hagan said. “I have known how to run routes since college. Most routes are a timing thing, and sometimes coach will let me know if I am too short or too deep. I just try and come back the next play and improve.”

Hagan said he is confident in his chances of making the opening-day roster.

“I feel great,” Hagan said. “I didn’t come in just to be here. I came here to help this team win, it doesn’t matter if I am starting or the third receiver or fourth receiver.”

Also At "S"...

*Veteran safety Matt Giordano gets credit for the play of the day for his interception of a Jason Campbell pass intended for tight end Kevin Boss.

Giordano read the play well, broke on the ball and jumped in front of Boss to take away the ball.

PantyRaider...Now Really!!...How Do You Not View This As An Upgrade!!!/_

11:26 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

The question,

"In what position did we upgrade by adding an external free agent?"

(really the basis for a "splash")
-------------------------------
More volume and gibberish from PR.

Let's take these 1 by 1:

(PR)
"Boss is equal talent at 1/4 the price which certainly constitutes an upgrade that allows us more Cap $$$ to bring in additional players"

(CJ)
Miller went to the Pro Bowl last year. (Boss hasn't). Miller has out-produced and out-performed Boss every year in the league.

Boss is not an upgrade over Miller. Boss was a good signing. The question had nothing to do with cost. It had to do with upgrading of talent. PERIOD.

(PR)
Another area is at "S"
Matt Giordano and Josh Bullocks have been added as veteran depth where we had very little making it possible for Huff to transition to a "Romer" "S"/"CB" in our new Coverage Scheme...

(CJ)
First off, these guys might not make the final roster. Second off, who specifically are they an upgrade to? Are Giordano upgrades to Branch? Huff? Mitchell? No. They are depth, injury insurance, practice fodder.

(PR)
WR Derek Hagan brings a set of veteran hands to our "O" that was lacking as a possession type receiver...

WR Chad Jackson also adds to the equation if he makes the team...

(CJ)
Hagan and Jackson (once again) will be lucky to make the final 53 man roster. Our current depth chart are by most accounts in some order of Shillens, Ford, Moore, Murphy, DHB).

So PR, how is it an upgrade? The only way it could be perceived as an upgrade is if (1) Hagan or Jackson replace our WR depth chart (2) and make a contribution. VERY UNLIKELY.

If Hagan or Jackson make the roster at the expense of DHB, wake me up.

(PR)
QB Trent Edwards is an upgrade as #3 "QB" over anyone else we had on the roster and may be our #2...

(CB)
Is Edwards an upgrade of Ski? Debatable. The fact that we are talking about a #3 QB proves my point. It is irrelevant since the only way Edwards would see the field is if both Campbell AND Boller get hurt.

(PR)
RB Louis Rankin was also added if he makes the roster...

(CB)
Rankin is not an external free agent.

Next! Move on PR. You've got zero credibility.

Where to begin!!!

Now don't shy away from the $$$ issues when that's what you pimp with every single "FA" transaction the Raiders make....

So Boss at a reduced rate is most definitely an upgrade over Zack -w- sever over the Cap issues...Period!!

Our "S"s have taken allot of abusive accusations regarding their play so adding 2 vets who may make this squad better is also an upgrade if they make the roster...

Same goes for our "WR" core whom you have bashed to no end because of lack of experience and hands...Hagan brings the hands and his experience to upgrade the depth on that unit and he's projected to make the final roster...Thus an upgrade!!!

Edwards is healthier and better than Frye or Ski and more productive than Boller in my opinion...But without a doubt he upgraded our #3 "QB" because until he was signed we didn't even have one!!!..Now how the hell do you argue with that!!

Louis Rankin was with Seattle last season so is a new "FA" signing and if he makes this team it's because he's better than Cartwright or Bennett!!!..Now that will also be an upgrade too...

Our other new "FA" at "WR"...

*Veteran Chad Jackson had himself quite a day at practice after an inauspicious beginning. He caught several passes on a variety of routes, including one for a touchdown in front of safety Stevie Brown.

Jackson, fellow veteran Derek Hagan, and several other receivers who weren’t on the team last year are making a strong push for inclusion on the opening-day roster.

“Somebody’s going to jump out of that pack, there’s no question,” Jackson said. “I truly believe that. Somebody will jump out of the pack and have a bang-up season, and I suspect there’s going to be a couple players that will do that. Our offense is multi-faceted. We’re going to do everything we can to create opportunities for guys to make plays. (If a) guy shows me he can make plays, I am going to keep giving him opportunities to make plays. That’s what this is all about.”

But if you listen to "CJ" there's been NO upgrade of this unit!!!...

Than according to some our "DC" is just a yes man who will run the "Al Davis Defense"....Ya! Right!!..Than don't read what the players are pimping...

*Huff said he is looking forward to defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan’s scheme, where Huff will be used in a variety of roles.

At times, Huff will slide over to cornerback, play nickel back, play dime back and even blitz more than he has in the past.

“That’s my Texas days, playing free, strong, nickel, play the dime a little bit,” Huff said. “That way, I get to do it all. That way I get to blitz more without the offense knowing. Anytime in the post, they knew I was coming. So, this will help us disguise more.”

Yup!!...Nothing ever changes...It's always the same scheme!!!...How many times have those lies been posted on this board!!!...

But of all posters "CJ" should be pimping this because it's exactly what he wanted even though he didn't know how to express it...But than neither did I as questioned him how???

WR unit will upgrade by default. It has been hands down the worst unit in the NFL the last 2-3 years (i.e., since Al drafted DHB).

Now a rookie 4th rd pick is our best WR, and our young WRs will have another year under their belt.

Roster WRs likely will be:

D Moore
J Ford
C Schilens
L Murphy
DHB

If we keep six it will be the best of the rest, but Nick Miller has the inside track due to his return capabilities.

So how exactly did we upgrade this unit in free agency?

The smart thing to do would be to release DHB and just eat that pill along with the JaMarcus Russell pill.

Raiders attend workout of QB Terrelle Pryor

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at 11:15 am in Oakland Raiders.

A Raiders scout was at the workout of Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor on Saturday morning. Pryor is regarded as the most attractive player of the six entered in the supplemental draft.

Seeing the Raiders scout confirms the team’s interest. Coach Hue Jackson downplayed the Pryor angle when asked about him Thursday.

“I know he plays quarterback,” Jackson said. “I haven’t done much (research). I’m going to coach this team. I’m not worried about him. I have a quarterback. I have two very good backup quarterbacks. Who says he might be on our team? That’s what you said.”

When pressed on the issue, Jackson said:

“Ahhhh. Ahhhh, the supplemental draft is when, men? Monday,” Jackson said. “I can’t speak to that. I’m worried about the 49ers right now.”

Well, the Raiders scout’s presence speaks loud and clear. The fact Pryor posted 40-yard dash times of 4.38 seconds and 4.41 no doubt heightened that interest. It’s important to note that the Raiders keep their own times, so that figure could be even faster.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton went No. 1 in this year’s regular draft, and he ran a 4.59 at the NFL Scouting Combine. Pryor’s time is of even more import if a team such as the Raiders have designs on converting him to, say, wide receiver.

Any team that selects Pryor, or any other player in the supplemental draft, would have to forfeit a pick from the 2012 NFL draft in whatever round that player is taken in the supplemental draft.

The Raiders already are without second- and fourth-round picks in the 2012 NFL draft. However, it’s likely that they will gain at least one compensatory pick for a net loss of free agents in 2011.

That states loud and clear that the Raiders lost more than they gained in free agency!

It's a non-splash!

NFL | Terrelle Pryor says he will not appeal suspension
Sat, 20 Aug 2011 12:24:20 -0700

Updating previous reports, Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor said at his workout that he will not appeal his five-game suspension and will sign with the team that drafts him.

Fourteen teams present at Pryor workout

NFL Network’s Albert Breer reports the teams in attendance are the 49ers, Bills, Browns, Buccaneers, Chargers, Colts, Cowboys, Dolphins, Eagles, Lions, Raiders, Redskins, Saints and Steelers.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Pryor will sign with whichever team selects him in the draft and will not appeal the five-game suspension imposed by the NFL, as Pryor’s attorney hinted at Friday. Rosenhaus also said Pryor will play any position asked.

How is it an "upgrade" at WR if you don't make the roster?

Exactly whose roster spot is Derek Hagan or Chad Jackson going to take?

The only chance either of these guys make the final roster is if one of our WRs goes on IR or PUP.

I would rate our WRs in this order (if healthy of course):

Chaz Shillens
Louis Murphy
Jacoby Ford
Denarius Moore
Nick Miller
DHB

Cheers, CJ

That's judged according to where in the draft a player was selected and the size of his contract $$$$...

So are you now posting that losing "JePurpleDrank" for "Ski" was a diminished roster?????

At least try to evaluate something before to stick your stanky foot in your mouth!!!..

Well I guess it is difficult to see clearly with your head stuck so far up your ass!!!
