Dolphins Gameday Thread

The Dolphins are predicted to be awful this season, so this is a soft opener and a good opportunity for the new-look Raiders to start the season off on a positive note. GO RAIDERS!

nice win. It doesn't have to be perfect. Defense had flashes. Jeanty looked good. Not sure about the deep crossing route that Cousins threw two INTs. Same route Mendoza threw an INT in pre-season. That play needs to be removed from the play book. Also, Cousins deep throws were horrible. This is where Mendoza might have a clear edge once he's ready to play.

Check out the stat lines on Paye, Walker, Dean and even Fatukasi, a late pickup. One game doesn't make a season... but it's funny how smart the Raiders look showcasing their new free agents in this first game. These guys all looked impressive.

I was talking up Dean a few months back when they signed him, he is an impact player. For the first time in awhile the Raiders looked like an organized well coached team. again only the Dolphins but the o-line is much improved. Center has been such an integral part of the Raiders success over the years ---Otto, Mosebar, Robbins, Hudson. Linderbaum is a stud. Cousins can not throw more than 15 yards with zip it seems--scary? Jeanty is the real deal and getting Bowers back will help open up bigger lanes. How about Stukes looked impactful. Sandy

Watching MNF and how the Broncos are executing on offense with Davis Webb making the calls and after one game we may have dodged a bullet.

Agreed, Webb probably would have been wrong for the Raiders but the Broncos have Sean Payton who will have the issue corrected fast. Meanwhile, the Broncos were up against a wall in KC. They had no chance of winning that game. Chiefs were showcasing some new toys and playing to win.

WOW! Raiders played fundamentally sound in all 3 aspects of the game. Balanced between running/passing game. O-Line looked strong, unconfused, and hitting opponent in the mouth. Defense! When was the last time we could say the Raiders, as a team, combined for 5 sacks in a game? Crosby with 1.5, and missed 2 more because he overshot the QB, and a few more because of blatant holding by Miami that were not called. He could have had 7 sacks by himself.
Only weakness is WR group. How much will passing game change when Bowers comes back? Will they run a 2 TE formation? Bech is a bright spot here too.
Regardless of how the season plays out, the Raiders in one game, has shown vast improvements from the last 3 seasons that we can be excited about.
Not only did we dodge a bullet with Webb, but also with Mike McDaniel. His play calling for the Chargers was atrocious! As AFL Godfather on Twitter said, "Too many cooks in the kitchen" for the Chargers with McDaniel and Harbaugh, who were already arguing with each other. Good for them, couldn't have happened to a better team.
Chiefs continue to get a way with a numerous amount of holding penalties, and it is baffling to me because it was so blatantly obvious. Kelce held on Mahomes' TD run, not called. Even the broadcast was amazed at how it was not called. Looks like we are going to have to play against the refs when we play KC too.
1-0 with the Chiefs, while the Doncos and Dunderbolts are 0-1. Lot of season left, but I hope the Raiders build on this and JUST WIN, BABY!

Ci,

They had good game made good plays and game plan and well. A great game!....But the roster and management just seems not to match the story and possible facts and picture being painted. Miami is full o to new guys not a contender or hasnt jelled yet. The staory we are surprise underdog team is LR it's a story media made to get support if team They are getting wealthier and fans we are spending on them they should discount tickets and fans shouldn't get too excited about inf game.

Ci,

Hey NY! You're right about not selling future away by bad trades but Raiders could get some s ars if they took time to listen to trade offers and make a playoff run.now. They can trade picks or s star for vets and picks and then we may have a team to win now.

What I saw of the KC vs DEN game makes me think that Den let the Chiefs off the hook with piss poor tackling, And play calling that was atrocious! Looking at Mahomes stats, I saw where he didn’t complete a pass over 10yards with most coming around the 5-7 yard mark. If you can pressure the QB and Tackle this is a different game outcome. Now the Raiders need to keep building since LA hasn’t been a place they win. Let’s hope the Chargers keep up their disfunction. But I am pleased for the most part of improvement I saw in the running game and taking advantage of the Jeanty mismatch and the fact the Oline didn’t give up a sack. And the Havoc play stat that had the Raiders at the top of the list this week. There are things that need to be shored up for sure, but the improvements are there to be seen.

It's amazing that the Raiders O-line didn't give up a sack because Cousins often hung onto the ball way too long trying to find an open WR, yet he only had like 5.3 yards per pass. When he did throw down field, it was often bad, either an INT or way off the mark. Until Cousins connects on a long pass, the Raiders West Coast Offense success may fade quickly. The Raiders should expect the Chargers to pull their safeties closer to the LOS and try and take away Jeanty's success and the Raiders short game. Cousins needs to find connections over the defense... which would be a big departure from last week.

As the saying goes, 'no team is as good as their best game, nor as bad as their worst game.' Hopefully, the Raiders and Chargers don't reverse roles this week... I think the dysfunction between Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel is way overblown for media fodder.

Cousins has had a career of holding on to the ball to long, and he moves slower now. O-Line really has their first challenge this week with the Chargers, and that is ok. For sure, Cousins won't be able to hold the ball long like he did against Miami. The Raiders are going to need to demand more from the WRs this week, especially if Bowers doesn't play. We must stretch the field, and utilize all targets, not just dump passes to the RB and TE. Raiders must establish the running game as well. I think they need to run the ball more than pass this game. We will see what happens. JUST WIN, BABY!
