A Day of Remembrance

Well, it's a bittersweet day in the Raider Nation.

We start with the sad news of the passing of Ben Davidson. Simply put, the dude was epic. The epitome of a true Raider: big, gnarly, distinctive and mean, but with a twinkle in his eye.

An autographed photo of Davidson stalking Bob Griese is proudly displayed in my den, and it now means more to me than it ever did. Rest in peace, Mr. Davidson.

Tomorrow, Independence Day, also marks the birthday of Al Davis. It's a time to not only celebrate a great nation, but also the man who developed and defined the Raider mystique.

Training camp will begin soon. It's enough to light a fire under me and to fire up this blog more often heading into the 2012 season. I can't wait, can you?

Big Ben was a RAIDER! I think the Nation is feeling mortality as much as at any point in it's history. Ben was what Al liked, a big tall intimidating renegade. Another legend has passed, thanks for the memories, Ben.

If there was ever another face of the Oakland Raiders (besides Al Davis', of course), it was Ben Davidson. Dude took looking "mean" to another level... which he transposed to an acting career.

I was very young when he played for the Raiders, but his persona has always been part of the Raiders mystique... and hopefully always will be.

RIP

Been very quiet in the RTake hood ... no fuss, controversy, or drama in the Raider world.

Good to see that we signed Branch to a long term contract and Palmer restructured his contract to help us with are cap.

Only time will tell but I feel very good about Moore, Ford, DHB, Criner, and Streater being a dynamic group of WRs. By shipping Murph off to Carolina, it will give Criner a better chance to become a key possession WR sooner rather than later.

It's a crowded WR corp... which only took 8 years to develop. Trading Murphy gets Criner et al more touches and it puts a draft pick in Reggie's back pocket.

It's a win win. Murphy was the Raiders best WR for two straight years, and I believe he can do well for Carolina. Best of luck!

Criner will be the possession WR that Schilens never was.

I’m a fan of a football team NOT my idol player…Or a coach…What happens on that turf is what matters to me not some damn “Soap Oprah” shenanigans behind stage…Therefore I will continue to support my Raiders in almost any circumstance…That’s my stance!!!
