A Brand New Day

Here's what Mark Davis said recently:

"It's a brand new day...The business part really wasn't there. It was all football. Just win. Over the years, it just grew and grew and grew, and I think the size of the league and the size of the organization and the different things you had to deal with, media and all those things, kind of dwarfed the capabilities of the organization. Instead of a clean start with the organization, there's been a lot of plugging holes. So at a certain point in the near future, after careful evaluation, there will be a more modern structure so to speak."

This is good news. For years, I've been getting yelled at for making the same observation. Now I'm off the hook. You can just yell at the owner of the Raiders if you don't like it.

I'll still miss Al Davis, and will forever embrace the countercultural heritage of the Raiders. Some say it will never be the same, and they are probably right. But it wasn't the same lately, anyways, was it?

My primary definition of the Raiders is "winning." Without that, everything else is just window dressing. After nine years without a winning record, the Raiders were really no longer the Raiders, were they? There was a time when Mr. Davis outsmarted the NFL.
That was the Raiders. But the organization being outsmarted? That's not the Raiders.

Will these changes create a dynasty? Hard to say, impossible to predict, easier said than done.

One thing is for sure, you'll never see a repeat of what transpired in these years since 2002, the worst stretch of losing in NFL history, marked by a comedic coaching carousel and some remarkably awful personnel decisions. Only the issues outlined by Mark Davis could create a stretch like that, ie: an organization "dwarfed" by the modern demands of the NFL.

Mark Davis says it's a new day, and I'm ready to follow him into the sunshine.

Marc Davis is doing what Marc Davis needs to do because NO one man could run this franchise the way his father could/did/was until death!!!

Now Marc/Amy are the "Business" end while Reggie/Allan are the "Football" end...

So you got your wish...Al Davis passed on...We get that already!!!

He evidently won so how is it you call him a "Loser"???

Now as for the politics of this damn country they all SUCK and play folks like you for the fools that you allow yourselves to be in some stupid "Good Cop-Bad Cop" acted out charade that is designed to keep the populace divided...Only when folks can get beyond that "Cloak-n-Dagger" approach and see threw the "BS" as a united Nation will change take place....The chances of that now are diminished beyond hope as you folks sink in your divided stupidities!!!

It will all crash and we will all be doomed as a result...So enjoy the ride down the "Dumper"...Me I'm now just in preparation mode for survival without any further hope of rectification!!!

So enjoy bitchin about some stupid convention displacing one day of the NFL season...

Oh!!...By the way did you happen to notice how Nixon was trying to get involved in the NFL black-Outs back when??...Bush was parading his "Pats" around the world exclaiming "World Champions" right after they changed their uniforms and pushed us out of the way with that whole "Tuck" thing???...Obama asking for a "FA" to come and play for the Bears???

"Knapp also said that he has had multiple phone conversations with quarterback Carson Palmer, as well as backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor and right guard Cooper Carlisle."

Yikes!!!...My boy Pryor is finally going to get a chance to showcase what he's got!!!
----------------------------------
He said the mood around the Raiders facility is infectious.

“There’s a definite positive vibe going on,” Knapp said. “I was very excited to see what Reggie’s plan was when I came in and initially met with him.

“D.A.’s energy is contagious with everybody. The players are feeling it. The guys who have been in the building for a long time — equipment guys, trainers, video guys — are feeling it. It’s neat to be a part of something at the ground level and build this thing.”

“There will be a learning curve,” Knapp said. “I think that happens with any transition with a new team. But we’ll have plenty of time to get it implemented. Whenever we’re in a start-up mode like we are here, like a start-up company, it’s my job to make sure that we don’t do everything at once but piece it correctly together. We’ll have building blocks, so to speak, to implement the offense.”

Well lets hope that at least the terminology remains similar enough to make it a smoother transition...That the passing plays retain some of what was working last season...That the "RB"s continue to be important targets in the passing game as well as the run....That the "TE" again becomes an integral part of our system...As we become "Houston West" on the "O"...

Guess I will have to go look in depth at what they have been able to do the past 2 seasons so as to get a feel for where Knapp is trying to take our team....

I admit I defended Al up, down, and all around, and would still be doing so if he were still alive. Thats how much admiration and loyalty I had for him. He provided me with over 40 years of great entertainment, and three SB rings to cheer for. I will for ever be grateful.

That said... his business decisions over the last 5-7 years were based more on desperation than sound business practices, and who could blame him? Its his team and he wanted one more ring before dying. I might have done the same thing. Damn the future, I need a ring NOW.

Some of his bad decisions happened because of bad timing... he finally decided to draft a QB either one or two years too late, or a year too early. He had to decide between JaMoney and Brady Quinn while we were desperate for a franchise QB... both were flops.

Some of it was pure desperation, and a HC that could give a fuck less about the franchise... the Hall/Walker fiasco could have been avoided with an owner less desperate, or a HC that cared that such a gamble might set the franchise back quite a few years.

In the end.. I am happy Al set up a pretty strong franchise with good drafting his last three years. The offense is nearly set, which is half the game. He sucked at drafting defense... which is what the new people in charge have to fix quickly. Luckily fixing a defense is much much easier than fixing an offense. I would argue 10 times easier. Just a few playmakers and some good defensive coaching. Houston was 31st in defense the year before last, fer instance. Top four this past season. That never happens on offense.

It's funny...all the years that I have posted on here, the "cr*%" always said that Mr.Davis wasn't running the whole show. That he wasn't meddling in the defense, that he let's the coaches coach, that Art Shell drafted Huff #7 overall. One of them even suggested that the franchise wasn't doing well because Mr.Davis wasn't involved enough.

Now that Mr.Davis has passed and the truth was exposed that the Front Office was a mess, that Mr.Davis ran the Defense (Huey testimony) and that Mr.Davis made the personnel decisions (duh). Now they are claiming to be authorities on how the franchise is being run today... it's time to break out the humble pie.

Bottom line is...the franchise was run in a below avg manner that produced below avg teams. It was frustrating that Mr.Davis continued on his path of below avg, never trying to get help when the team was melting from it.

It was a shame that someone so knowledgable about football and business, couldn't do what was needed to produce wins. I asked years ago for Mr.Davis to hire a Reggie type and for Mr.Davis to work on a stadium deal and to leave the day to day operations to those who were hired to do it.

I admire Mr.Davis for going out on his shield, but it wasn't what was best for the TEAM and the FANS. I hear that Allen is staying in a motel near Alameda and he is at the facility every day with little contact with his family (too busy). Nothing but good reports and comments for those around the league to what is going on in Alameda.

Alameda was a classic car that just couldn't keep up to speed, now, it is getting rebuilt into a football machine. Reggie and 'the kid' are going to set a high standard of work ethic and accountability. The team will be a unit, no longer fractured. Mr.Davis can be proud of his son, cause he is doing it the right way.

The changes that we are seeing in 2012 were LONG overdue. It is a shame and sad that Al Davis didn't get the executive help that he needed many years ago. Davis didn't have to go out with a whimper (9 consecutive non-winning seasons) and his son has a tall task to restore the luster of a proud franchise. I'm really looking forward to the new era. McKenzie and Allen are the right guys at the right time to get the ship off the rocks. Onwards and upwards!

A short look at Houston and where Knapp is trying to take our "O":

Houston:

2010:

"O"-#3
Pass-#4
Rush-#7
Scoring-#9
"OL"-#12

2011:

"O"-#13
Pass-#18
Rush-#2
Scoring-#10
"OL"-#13

Note: After the loss of their starting "QB" the team went heavy on the run and depended less on the pass so this should be considered as a reason for the drop off in Pass production and perhaps overall production by the "O"...They enjoyed having the #2 "D" to help sustain their games dispite their loss of "O" production...

Conversly the Raiders didn't have that luxery..When our "O" was banged up it was still all we had to attempt to field a winning team as we finished #9 in total "O" but #29 in total "D"...That was the diferance between making the post season and failing...NO "D" to back up our very productive "O"...

Our "OL" was better on paper than theirs...Will it be as effective in the "ZBS" remains to be seen...

Knapp was "OC" and I believe "QB" coach for Vick early on so that bodes very well for Pryor who brings a very similar game...Palmer will be expected to shift from being the pocket passer to designed roll outs that help buy time for the "OL"...We have several very good weapons in the passing game including the "WR"s/"TE"s/"RB"s-n-"FB"...Add to this the prospect of using Pryor as the "Slash"...

If no roster moves are made we will field:

Boss/Ausberry/Meyer @ "TE"

"DHB"/Ford/Moore/Chaz/Murphy @ "WR"

"D-Mac"/Bush/"TJ"/Reece @ "RB"

I expect to see some change at "WR"...Murphy -n- perhaps Chaz gone while a more productive possession "WR" comes in...

If we lose Bush he will be replaced by a hard nosed runner with hands...

I don't expect any changes at "TE"...

I expect to see a few new bodies on the "OL" and perhaps Campbell finally getting into the action...With his athleticism he should translate well to the "ZBS"...

I expect to see one new "QB"....Gerrard's name has already come up and he's now recovered from his back surgery...This should be a good fit...

So it would appear to me that our current roster fits well with where Knapp is trying to take us...A strong running team with a potent passing attack...

PantyRaider....But Wait-n-See...NO Projections At This Point!!!/_

Raiders have to dump plenty of salary

Posted by Mike Florio on February 28, 2012, 11:28 PM EST

In two weeks, each team must be in compliance with the 2012 salary cap, whatever that number may be. In the offseason, cap compliance is based on the cap numbers of the 51 highest-paid players on the roster.

The Raiders may have to dump more than a few of their top 51 in order to get under the cap.

Based on the “top 51″ report for each team as of February 28, a copy of which PFT has obtained, the Raiders stand at $145.7 million. That’s more than $16 million more than the next team, the Giants.

If the 2012 cap lands at $120 million and based on the availability of $3.23 million in 2011 cap space that can be carried over, the Raiders still must clear more than $22 million in the next two weeks.

At the other end of the spectrum are the Bengals, who have only $83.5 million in commitments for 2012. The Buccaneers, Titans, Redskins, and Broncos also are under $100 million.

Thanks for the update....

This:

"If the 2012 cap lands at $120 million and based on the availability of $3.23 million in 2011 cap space that can be carried over,"

It was reported that the Raiders were $3.23 Mil under but now it appears that was what we were under in 2011...Nice that the unspent 2011 $$$ can be carried over and applied toward 2012....

Funny that after all that Cap talk last season about how we were way over we should end up this $3.2 Mil under...LoL!!!...Just imagine how under we will be this time around???

There's also an additional $3 mil or so that can be borrowed against the 2013 Cap...1/2 of what was allowed for the 2011 season which we never spent...

The $120 Mil projection is way too low...The 2011 Cap came in around $128 Mil if I remember correctly and said to escalate each season by some percentage so prolley closer to $130 Mil...

Thus some $13 Mil is already prolley accounted for...That still leaves us dealing with some $10 mil or so...

Now I wonder if Bush's salery is computed in that 2012 Cap projection when he's yet unsigned???...

Both Huff -n- Wimbely have guaranteed $$$ to the tune of some $11 Mil so I don't expect to see them released???....If there was a $5 Mil bonus owed to Routt in March than that sucks???...That's $15 Mil right there in guarantees alone with NOTHING in return if all 3 of these guys end up being released...I don't really see Wimbley going though???

Meanwhile, back in football land, I'm losing my confidence in what the Raiders are attempting to do.

As for the defense, there seems to be no plan. "Whatever works best." The coaching staff is saying the same things this year that a different coaching staff said last year. If there is no plan, there is no hope for success.

As for the offense, I think our top 10 offense is about to take a dive. We're going all in on a West Coast offense, similar to what Shannahan ran in Denver.

A West Coast offense is designed for a team with a weak offensive line, a weak armed but accurate QB, and WRs without tremendous speed but can run routs perfectly.

THAT'S NOT US!!!

Knapp is apparently going to coach the same team he coached for us last time, unfortunately they are not there anymore.

We are built as a deep strike team with a power running game. We are going to have to wait until Knapp gets a team that suits his style before we have success again.

Right now, I'm predicting 6 or 7 wins at best for 2012.

And why should we expect holdouts and cap struggles? Could it be the "caution to the wind" approach to signing avg players to big dollars? Cap wise, it's a mess, only a "...." member would think that it was a 'good thing'.

D.A. is spending his time away from family and down the road from Alameda, working 16 hour days to prepare for April 2nd. Reggie is working the same hours and Blanda is worried? Looks like COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE to me.

The contracts need to be reeled in and it's about time it was taken care of.

As far as the Defensive side of the ball, D.A. said they are not tied to a FORMATION, does not mean scheme. The obssession with "will it be a 4-3 or 3-4 Defense" means nothing, D.A. is willing to adjust to the personnel.

They haven't even had a chance to meet the players and Blanda is already condemning the process of what the Defense will be, too funny. Then he continues to say the Offense will go in the shitter and there hasn't even been one practise. TOO FUNNY. Bring in the...."%$#@"

Well not so fast. GB runs kind of a WC offense and throws the ball long plenty... and thats where McK came from. And I think Al Saunders was kept on staff for a reason. I think the offense will be just as good, especially with Campbell out of the picture (He and the WRs were best friends... there's a "Cribs" episode of DHB's house on Youtube... and Murphy, Ford, DHB and Campbell were all there cooking chicken for a MNF game.) Palmer will have an entire off season to get on the same page with the WR's... there is no way anyone can discount this. Plus who knows how good an offense this will be if McF can stay playing for an entire season... I think he can!

You were speculating on the Cap problems when other info had been presented to the contrary...Now we have clarification on that info and thus a correction of info...At this time than a change of stance takes place...NOT before the correct info is presented with a eye witness accounting which to my knowledge you are NOT!!!

So don't run around crying Foul because I didn't just accept your "Doom-n-Gloom" unfounded reports...You had NO knowledge of anything!!!

Now we all have the same info followed by a "Projected" 2012 Cap -w- a clarified $3.23 Mil added from unspent 2011 $$$....

Than I added the $3 Mil or so that we can still borrow from 2013 as stipulated in the new CBA...

Corkran than added that it will be very easy to correct this deficit prior to the 3/13 deadline by just restructuring without any cuts...

Here's what I expect to be cut:

FS Michael Huff $9,828,750
DT John Henderson $4,750,000
CB Chris Johnson $4,500,000
OG Cooper Carlisle $3,300,000
--------------------------------
Total: $22 Mil

Huff will still count $4.5 Mil against our Cap in Guaranteed $$$...The others are already past their prime and just not worth the $$$$....

This one I have to question: How could this all apply as "Dead $$$" in 2012??

CB Stanford Routt $10,785,334

That's his entire 2011 salary???

Now one point that needs to be understood...There are 2 dates where the team needs to be under the Salary Cap...

3-13-12
9-?-12 Final Cut Down Day

In between we can be over as much as we need to be while signing and restructuring players so our hands are NOT tied as to bringing in new talent...Also our Draft $$$ will be minimal...So don't buy the "Doom-n-Gloom" that's going to be pimped like last season...

After 3/13 sign: Branch...This will mean we don't use that "FT" on any player as it will just escalate our Cap $$$$'s....

Also as in the past a player can be cut and resigned after the 3/13 date...A new contract while the old $$$$ was voided...

The Raiders need to chop off $22M from their payroll in the next 2 weeks. Definitely not an easy task but it will get done.

The Raiders have very few draft picks. Not the most ideal scenario for the new GM trying to add key pieces to the 2012 yet it makes McKenzie's value in evaluating talent all the more important. I am confident that McKenzie (and Allen) will CONTINUE to roll up their sleeves and utilize all available avenues to field the best possible team.

M.Davis, McKenzie, and Allen have a tough task in making the transition of this new era. No excuses about inheriting a bloated payroll and shortage of draft picks. Quite the contrary. I am excited about the future and I am really looking forward to 2012 and beyond.

BR,

I am sincerely puzzled by your statement of "losing confidence in what the Raiders are attempting to do."

It is February 29 for Pete's sake and you are waving the white flag? What specifically are you referring to? What exactly "should the Raiders be attempting to do" at this juncture? Also to suggest that an offense with West Coast principles is married to the dink and dunk is flat out wrong and you know it. Is it possible BR that Knapp and Allen will run a hybrid offense? Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Houston and GBay 2 of the more prolific offenses in the NFL last year? Both teams BTW took plenty of deep shots down the field.

I'm not going to jump on the "Doom-n-Gloom" wagon but also NOT going to make any premature projections as to what our team will be...

The "O" should be every bit as good as what it was with the retention of Al Saunders and the return of a healthy roster which the new training staff should help insure...

Just Knapp alone and I had huge ????'s as to what he could/would accomplish...But I agree we are going in a little different direction as far as "O" design...That comes with the addition of a "HC" who chooses his entire coaching staff...He also chooses the "O" and "D" scheme....So hopefully this does not translate into a short term deal because we can't afford to switch ever 2 seasons like this and stay competitive...That's what happened before...The roster fit the one who departed and didn't fit the new guy coming in...

I think our basic roster already fits what Knapp wants to do...Run that "Pig"!!!...Than we already have a prolific passing game that was #11 last season and will need to be tweaked to fit the new structure of the "O"...

From what Palmer and Knapp are saying it appears that their on the same page with it???

This: Funny...Now Corkran is writing like me without the "Caps"...But better to be copied by him than that idiot Demon LIAR!!!

Palmer says he is “happy” with the Raiders, the Raiders are close to being a “championhip” team.

LoL!!!

Remember I pimped this guy and Palmer is a fast learner as demonstrated mid season 2011 BUT:

"as soon as I get a chance to learn this offense, I’ve been trying to get a playbook and film, but there’s a lot of league-wide restrictions on that. So I haven’t even had a chance to get any information from the organization"

"Palmer: Him, and Matt Leinart, and Kevin Walter are all buddies and I’ve talked to all them, and everybody’s raved about him. I’ve talked to a handful of guys that are still with the Raiders who played for him when he was with the Raiders a couple years back. I’ve asked around plenty, and I’ve gotten my hands on some 2010 film, some older Texans film, where they were kind of doing some of the same stuff with the long play action stuff and what excites me about it is it sounds like it’s a lot of play action, a lot of boots, and throwing the ball down the field, and using, it sounds like we’re going to use that speed we have on the outside and try to throw the ball over people’s heads. We did that quite ab it last year and had quite a bit of success throwing the ball deep and it sounds like it’s going to be some of the same stuff and I’m excited to see the direction of the run game. It sounds like it’s going to be a zone running scheme"

"I’ve been in contact with all my receivers and even guys like Marcel Reece and Kevin Boss, David Ausberry, some younger guys that Raider fans haven’t heard of that they should be excited about. We’ll get together in L.A. and have some throwing sessions set up before we get back to Oakland and before we get the playbook, before we get to 7-on-7 sessions and the team drills that we’re going to be during OTAs and minicamps.....we want to be prepared and at least somewhat on the same page or as close to being on the same page as we can be heading into OTAs."

So Palmer has given us a little incite as to what the new "O" will look like and it does sound rather exciting as does seeing his commitment and maturity and how it will help the younger guys gel with him as they all put in the extra time....

I agree with Gary.

You just don't see the classic, Bill Walsh, WC offense around anymore.

What you see is more of a hybid. A WC offense, mixed with big strike capabilities.

That being said, I do agree the Raiders roster needs to be tweeked for the new offense.

Raiders will need some bigger WR's who can make catches in middle of field.

And the 0-line was going to have to be improved no matter what offense.

The sad truth is that overpriced contracts signed over the last few years will likely continue to force the Raiders to cut players and create gaps on their roster. The timing couldn't be worse.

No cap space and no draft picks.

What a mess!

My observation is that some folks seem anxious to be critical of Reggie McKenzie, yet he will need to pull off a small miracle to right the ship in less than 2-3 years.

Too, it's ironic that Al Davis thought his son Mark wasn't ready, or perhaps even incapable of taking over the Raiders, yet it took Mark to pull the right strings.

For the record the "Mediot" I sited was also WRONG!!!..."J-Mac" prematurely speculated based upon what another was reporting about that $3.23 Mil that was left over Cap...Problem was it was the 2011 CAP and NOT the 2012 CAP!!!

So we both saw/believed misinformation while I waited until an authoritative report came out before making it an official CAP overage while still questioning the "Projected" 2012 CAP Amount!!!

Nothing could possibly be "Official" until that info was released from the NFL as reported and "Mediot"s could forward that info to us...

Your NOT in the middle of anything and DON'T have one smidgin of info that's not available to the masses...Than you misinterpret/misrepresent/falsely report up the yin-yang!!!

So NO!!!...I don't take your word for anything!!!

And for the record...Marc readily admitted he was NOT ready/capable/intending/trying to or in any other way be his father and had to seek qualified help to run the Football End of the organization...Just like his father said a few seasons ago..."Marc is not yet ready"...However you can damn well better believe that sense that was spoken his son got a crash course on how to deal with the day of his father's passing and detailed instructions were left behind as well as consults in place to help him threw that transition....

It was NOT just left to Marc to figure out all on his own!!!...It's NOT like they didn't know Al was passing!!!

Ya see!!!...Now that's a perfect example of you "Misrepresenting" the TRUTH!!!...Falsely Reporting!!!...Which seems to be your nature when you need to feed that perpetual "HateTrip" your on!!!

Wow, that was unnecessarily belligerent.

Sorry, but there’s nothing you can say to change my opinion that the Raiders were mismanaged over at least the last several years. This much has been confirmed by current ownership and management.

And it’s not in the past; it’s being revealed right now as the Raiders try and correct these issues. So it’s far game for discussion.

Regarding the cap issue, it’s a moving target due to roster bonuses, etc. My contention from the beginning was only that the Raiders were way over and would have to address it. You contended they were under the cap, which was false (and your own misinterpretation of the facts).

As it turns out, they are far worse off in cap dollars than I thought.

What rule book are you looking at that says the owner has to be the general manager too?

Mark is doing what most good NFL franchise owners do; deligate.

With all due respect to Al Davis, Mark should have been given this task years ago. That's my opinion. You don't have to like; and you certainly can't change it.

How can anyone come to a proper conclusion when they ignore the facts? The topic of how Mr.Davis ran the team was a huge topic with all Raider fans. Now that we see a 'new' way, there is no ignoring the 'old' way. It will be discussed whether Mr Doom and Gloom likes it or not.

I’m getting ready to head up to L.A. to train. The guy I’ve been training with for the last seven or eight years has a gym up there and that’s where I spend the offseason, getting ready with him. I’ve been in contact with all my receivers and even guys like Marcel Reece and Kevin Boss, David Ausberry, some younger guys that Raider fans haven’t heard of that they should be excited about. We’ll get together in L.A. and have some throwing sessions set up before we get back to Oakland and before we get the playbook, before we get to 7-on-7 sessions and the team drills that we’re going to be during OTAs and minicamps.

It's interesting to note that if Wimbley is on the roster come March 17, he’s guaranteed another $13M over the following 3 seasons. That’s a nice piece of leverage for Reggie at this point. If that’s the case, either take a decent pay cut or clean out your locker.

Your posts are filled with cut and paste and you rarely source it. So, please don't call me out for not sourcing my material. It's hypocritical at best.

Also, the Palmer deal was shepperded by Jackson. As you aptly point out, Mark Davis is not a polished football guy. It's partly Mark's understanding of his own limitations and acting on those limitations that make him extraordinary, IMO.

At that time, i.e., predating McKenzie's involvement, deferring to HC Jackson was absolutely the right move by Mark Davis. The Raiders were making a run for the playoffs.

FYI, we aren't only missing a 1st round pick in this year's draft. We are missing at least our top 4 picks, maybe more (I defer to others that have this info).

Sorry to keep harping on this, but I'm being told Routt cost the Raiders only $10M for one season when, actually, he cost them $15M.

Raiders are reportedly $11M over the cap and they are laden with inflated contracts.

McKenzie has his work cut out for him. Sure, he can restructure a couple or three deals, but this process keeps compounding itself, e.g., just like the $5M we still owe Routt.

PR,

Getting belligerent over the cap #s and posters putting in their 2 cents about it is rather childish.

The reality is that we are over the cap # somewhere between $20M to $28M (if you factor in Branch).

Regardless of the actual amount, it is clear that McKenzie has a significant mess to clean up on aisle 9.

No use getting your panties all bunched up. It is what it is. Mark Davis has hired McKenzie to clean up the mess and move forward. No one said it was going to be easy.

With the new era, I am no longer worried about assigning blame (or credit) with what happened prior to the season ending or Al passing.

It is a clean slate w/capable men doing the very best they can to put the best possible product on the field for Raider fans like ourselves to be excited and proud of our allegiance to the franchise.

As far as I'm concerned, M.Davis, McKenzie, and Allen deserve to be given the opportunity to put us back on track even if there are a few major road bumps to navigate.

When M.Davis, McKenzie, and Allen came into their roles w/the Raiders, they didn't arrive blind.

I am quite certain that they knew it wasn't going to be an easy task but all 3 were willing and enthusiastic about rolling up their sleeves with the goal of restoring the Raiders proud tradition. The focus is singular ... winning.

If anyone can point out 1 single misstep by any of the 3 to date, please share. Otherwise I suggest a reasonable amount of patience and yes, faith

I am appalled by how quickly some posters are either waving the white flag, crying doom and gloom, or unnecessarily dragging the discussion back into the past era.

Newsflash:

The previous era was the genesis for why we became proud Raider fans. The new era begins. To suggest that it "Al hating" for being enthusiastic of the new era is just plain stupid.

It's not just Routt, it's up and down the Raiders' roster.

From J-Mac: "The remainder of Wimbley’s 2012 contract ($4.5 million) becomes guaranteed Mar. 17, as does an $11 million salary for 2013 and $2 million of his salary for 2014. Add up the figures, including Wimbley’s 2011 salary, and that’s the $29 million late owner Al Davis “guaranteed” Wimbley when he gave him the long-term deal last season."

Like Routt, Wimbley is another guy that made realistic money in 2010 (a contract he signed with the Browns) but was elevated to elite status by an overpriced mega contract with the Raiders. Both players fell in their production after signing new deals (something that's not exclusive to the Raiders, I'm sure).

4:14 AM
Blogger nyraider said...

BTW: Discussing the cap is extremely relevant. The Raiders have less than two weeks to get below the threshold.

From Steve Corkran:

"ESPN reported earlier this month that the Raiders were $11 million over the projected salary cap for 2012."

Not sure why this report is being criticized here as being untrue. At the time this was reported, it was based on then-available information.

Corkran: "Now comes a report from ProFootballTalk.com that the Raiders are more than $25 million over the expected figure."

It just got worse by tagging Branch (as CJ points out).

Here's my speculation: I would guess no other team is this buried in cap dollars.

The thing that sticks out obviously is Greg Knapp. Now granted, I am slowly coming around to this actually working out, but this team isn't exactly a perfect fit for the ZBS... and Knapp did get demoted from even being an OC... so this hire was kind of a head scratcher at best. I think it was done because Allen as a greenhorn didn't have enough contacts league-wide to pick up anyone better he felt comfortable with. If Al had done it you would be coming unglued about it. Why not be honest?

9:45 AM
Anonymous gary said...

The reason I say that the ZBS is not a great fit for the Raiders is

1. The "toss option" is tough because the RB has to be looking for the ball instead of the "read key"... and McFadden is one of the best in the league at the toss option.

2. CP isn't exactly a QB ideally suited for the bootleg. Although I don't mind him throwing the ball rolling out, he certainly isn't fleet footed enough to be much of a threat running out of it... thus the DE doesn't have to honor the cutback as much, if at all.

9:52 AM
Anonymous JONES said...

The Knapp signing comes with a different set of parameters than if Mr.Davis had hired him. The structure and overall scheme is different, so comparing the hire with Mr.Davis, compared to D.A. is 'apples and oranges', IMO.

The HC under Mr.Davis was really the O.C., when Knapp was in Oakland last time, he was basically what Saunders will be now. Knapp's experience in Houston and Reggie's want to have a G.B. type Offense is the key. It's more of a wait and see now.

As far as the DE having to choose between the QB and HB, if the DE bites on the run, that leaves Palmer with plenty of time. If you give a good QB like Palmer time, he will kill you. It's not about the QB being a running threat, it's about giving the QB time to pick apart the D. The DE will need to read a 'stretch handoff', not a toss.

Thats a very good point. I wanted Hue to roll both CP and Campbell out more for more time last year.

Knapp has been mislabeled on this blog.

Carson Palmer has been reviewing film of Kapp's offenses and describes it as being down field, throw it over their heads kind of passing attack, mixed in with ZBS.

In the grand scheme of the things (no pun intended), Knapp is the least of our worries going forward.

The guy is an experienced, knowledgeable, capable offensive coach. Knapp and the entire coaching staff will need to adjust and fine tune the plans to fit the personnel and vice versa. It will be a process and work in progress.

Personally, I think the D will have bigger adjustments to be made than the offense.

Jack...I think the players on Defense are going to be thoroughly refreshed. Players are going to be more in positions to make plays. Instead of being on their heels for most of a game because of the basic scheme of old, they will be playing more of a 'confusion' game.

Less predictable, the other teams in the West are going to find it hard to prepare for their Defense. Imagine, DECADES of the same Defense vs the Raiders, their film sessions leading up to the games must have been 15 minutes, just to refresh.

I think it will be a huge advantage, early in the season, that other teams won't know what to prepare for and will give the Defense huge confidence as they adjust to the new scheme. IMO, the Raiders have had the talent for a decent Defense for a while. If they were given a modern scheme, they would have been more successful. Just one more reason to really look forward to the upcoming season.

They have some talent, if Reggie can add a couple of pieces (corners), I can see a very real improvement. Offense has a chance to be strong, best kickers in the league, Special teams, Kickoff and Punt coverages, with a new look...very real posibility the Raiders win the West. Any takers?

This from "J-Mac": Saint's Pay-Per-Play!!!

"In my more than 16 years covering the Raiders, never once have I heard of the Raiders participating in a bounty program or even talking about going after a player in the vain the Saints did the past three seasons."

"The NFL’s findings implicated Saints owner Tom Benson, general manager Mickey Loomis and coach Sean Payton as being aware of the program."

So now our "HC" is also under suspicion???...Great!!!...So much for being a properly constructed NFL organization where the Ownership/"GM"/"HC" along with some 25 or more "D" players are involved in a lets "Injure That Guy" program...A freakin "Bounty"???

Was Buddy Ryan in the house???

So ya!!...Now one has to question was Allan really the best man for the job and what will this do to the image of the Raiders and the actions of those "Zebra" going forward???

Now what would be done if this had been the Raiders instead of some NFL Pretty Face like those Patsy Cheatsters!!!...And why would an NFL player who banks $Mil's concern himself with a measly $1K per hit???....

This definitely demonstrates the low mentality of of the type of individual Allan was previously coaching/working with in "NO"!!!!

Now the Raiders pluck one of theirs who came from that "Pay-Per-Hit" Bounty program as our "HC"???

To imagine that this won't raise some scrutiny regarding the Raiders is to have your collective heads in the sand!!!...It's called "Guilty By Association"!!!

Now what would have been the reaction had it been Al Davis who did this hiring instead of my man Reggie???...I can already hear all the denials!!!

No place in NFL for bounties. Physical play is an attribute but malicious intent should be removed

It's football, bounty or not. Keep head on a swivel

I mean seriously, think about it. You're talking about paying someone to INTENTIONALLY injure someone else. They put people in JAIL for that

This 'bounty' program happens all around the league...not surprising

So bounties taint the Saints the last 3 years?!? Is actually recording your opponent practicing before you play them worse?!?

Purposely hurting someone and trying to inflict pain on someone are 2 different things. I'm sure I have had plenty of bounties on my head

Why is this a big deal now? Bounties been going on forever. A "Bounty" left me with a torn PCL and LCL in my knee

Football is a violent game n just because someone is hit very hard doesn't mean it's malicious

Bonuses given to Saints players if they injured opponents and knocked them out of the game. Any coach associated with this should be fired.

Roger Goodell says #Saints bounty program involved payments for injuring opposing players. Who was the rat that told #DAMSHAME

And You Dream This Won't Have A Carry Over Effect Now Upon The Raiders???

Stop the panic

Palmer 12.5 million. Curry 5.7 million.

So that’s 18.2 million for the 2 players traded for after Al Davis passed away. Al didnt do that. In fact both of them restructured their contracts so that they could be traded leading to the big cap hits this year, the final year of their contracts. We didnt trade draft picks just to get them for half of a season. They’ll be signed long term and it will reduce their cap hit.

Richard Seymour 14+ million.

He’s always willing to restructure to help the team get under the cap. He did exactly that last year after the new salary cap details were released. He’s also in the final year of his contract which means we can either add a few years to reduce his cap hit this year or we can let him walk next year and have money to spend on new players.

Johnson, Eugene, and Henderson 10+ million.

Injured and older players that can be let go. Only Henderson will be missed. In fact we will probably have to spend more to replace Henderson than to keep him.

Wimbley and Huff 21+ million

The only two players other than Routt who were given undeserved huge contracts. If we go to a 3-4 defense and Huff moves to corner they will be more valuable players for us. If we restructure their contracts we can afford them. If we cut them then we’ll have money to replace them.

McFadden, and DHB 17.7 million

These guys are just playing on their rookie first round contracts. Until last season rookie first rounders were overpaid but that applied to every team in the NFL.

Kelly, Carlisle, Janikowski, and Lechler 21+ million

Long time Raider veterans on old contracts who are really good players. No reason to change anything.

Boss 4 + million

This should be Zach Miller but whatever. The Seahawks are paying a lot more for Miller. The rest of the TEs are dirt cheap young guys who werent ready to be starters. Boss was about the only roster worthy FA TE on the market and we had to pay him more than NY. We can afford him and so we’ll keep him until we find someone better.

We are fine. There is no need for a fire sale. Stop the panic

That’s unfortunately what’s now facing Allan as a Raider and NO doubt it will show it’s ugly head during the season…Allan can now talk all he wants about discipline and sportsmanship but that black cloud will linger and those of the hating kind will feed upon it…His words n actions will present very little resistance in the face of all that animosity!!!

So just when we had hope that the penalty issue may diminish along with the loss of Mr Davis comes on board a new element to keep that taunting alive!!!…

Just because they love to hate and they really love to hate us the Raiders!!!

For the record watch how little Routt now draws those flags…He’s no longer a Raider!!!

“I want to express my sincere regret and apology to the NFL, Benson, and the New Orleans Saints fans for my participation in the ‘pay for performance’ program while I was with the Saints,” Williams said in a statement released by the Rams. “It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it. Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it. I take full responsibility for my role.”

The report found that Payton was aware of the allegations but did not make any inquires and failed to stop the program. The league also said that general manager Mickey Loomis at one time was directed to end the program once Benson was made aware of the league’s findings, but he did not carry out Benson’s directions.

The memo released to NFL teams also found Loomis and Payton guilty of “conduct detrimental” to the league

So, as it turns out, one of the least penalized teams over the last several years had a standing policy that if you were able to injure an opposing player on the field you'd receive a $1,000 to $1,500 reward. Perhaps the reason the Raiders are so overly penalized is because they've failed to actually institute personal fouls as a policy. I say this because, generally, when the Raiders got flagged for personal fouls they were only retaliating against players attempting to injure them.

And, as it turns out, Dennis Allen was involved in this policy. Well, that should cause the Raider ears to perk up when they hear Allen chastise them for all of the penalties they've been committing.

If any Denver players speak up and say that Allen had that policy in Denver, expect the flags on the Raiders to double this season.

Panty, there's no point in arguing cap issues. Don't you remember that Davis had no idea how the cap structure worked at all. Every year he'd miss all the deadlines and have to cut several players to get under it. Davis couldn't do anything right.

Pointing out that 75% of the NFL goes through cap restructuring every season is to no avail. Also, pointing out that a $30 million contract is usually only worth about $9 million won't do you any good either. Al Davis always over paid, always failed to get in under the cap, and always failed to get players signed on time. The guy was just a loser, so stop defending him.

"Al Davis left this team in the Black to the tune of some $3.2 Mil last season even after $$$$ were spent bringing in Curry/Palmer/Sheppard-n-others...Get That Yet!!!"

Al Davis signed the entire roster. Palmer is the only cap issue. Curry was a stop-gap and the Raiders can cut bait any time. Sheppard is about as costly to the Raiders as a stick of bubble gum.

Plus, Palmer's salary is defrayed by the departure of Campbell, who also had a pretty hefty deal.

The REAL reason the salaries are so inflated now is because they were REWORKED over and over by Al Davis so that he could be under the cap last year, and each year before it. It's a cycle the Raiders can't escape.

McKenzie didn't sign Wimbley, Routt, Eugene, Johnson, Huff, Seymour, Henderson, Kelly, etc., and he didn't sign Palmer either.

Despite what you believe, I am not intentionally trying to rag on Al Davis. These are facts, and correcting these issues are of upmost urgency to the Raiders right now.

Your judgement is so biased you have lost all perspective.

Tell us why there is reason to believe contracts are NOT out of wack, or that the organization WASN'T outmoded.

These are essentially the statements made by McKenzie and Mark Davis. Does that mean they hate Al Davis?

Liking Al Davis and recognizing these simple and obvious truths are not mutually exclusive.

Raiders | Dennis Allen could move Michael Huff to CB

Sat, 03 Mar 2012 08:10:53 -0800

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said during the NFL Scouting Combine that he could see a scenario where FS Michael Huff is moved from safety to cornerback. Allen said it will depend on what the Raiders do in the secondary in the offseason; however, Allen added Huff has the skill set of a corner.

Raiders | Michael Huff expects to return

Sat, 03 Mar 2012 06:07:56 -0800

Oakland Raiders FS Michael Huff reportedly has a $4 million roster bonus due March 15, raising speculation that he'll have to restructure his contract or be cut. Huff said via Twitter that he's certainly not thinking about leaving the team after talking to head coach Dennis Allen. "Had a great talk with D.A. and I love what he has planned for us on D," Huff said.

Seems straightforward and NYR has challenged you to put up or shut up. I guess, although you keep dancin' around it, you have decided to shut up or not accept NYR challenge.

Personally, I would be absolutely SHOCKED if we are able to sign 1 single BIG name external FA. I'm just hoping we are able to hold on some of our key internal FAs like TE Miller.

NYR would exit RT for a year if the Raiders signed more than 1 "big name, tier 1" external FA who are legit. starters.

If the Raiders sign 1 or 0 "big name" tier 1 external FAs starters, PR would walk.

As an outsider to this challenge, my view is that PR talked tough:

"Doubt your man enough to "Put Up Or Shut Up" but I will wager that Mr Davis makes a splash in "FA" this season...."

NYR met him head on:

"You're on! Loser leaves Raider Take for one year. Davis must sign more than one top tier FA who was not on the Raiders roster last season"

And since that time, PR has weaseled, delayed, and attempted to fillerbuster out of the bet. Sad.

The reason the Raiders haven't made any splash is because we were $15M+ over the cap just a few short days ago.

The Raiders plan was very simple and straightforward:

Do the best possible job retaining key players and add depth where needed.

The need for additional FAs this late into the preseason is a product of shoring up deficiencies, adding depth, creating competition, replacing departed FAs (Asomugha, Miller, Gallery), replacing retired FAs (hello Smiley), injured FAs (Eugene, Ford).

Clearly there was never any intention of making a splash in free agency which makes this bet a complete joke.

And let's not forget who wrote a check that there mouth couldn't cash ... this ridiculous bet was all on you PR for shoving it down our throat and being confrontational about it when there was no need to do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders sign 1 or 2 more players.

However, any add-ons will be journeymen cut from their squad who would be signed to add depth to our roster.

All the true "Top Tier" free agents are signed already. Sure there are a few "big name" FAs out there but there is a reason that these players are in the market ... injury concerns, past their shelf life quality, or marginal players at best.

The lack of a "splash" in free agency means the Raiders will need impact seasons from a few rookies and rely on improved performances from key 2-4 year players.

The whole premise of making a free agent splash is to add top tier, elite talent to an existing foundation or base of talent.

Since when is this a splash;

Lose Miller, a pro bowl player, and add a player who was less productive in his 1st 4 years. Wash at best.

Lose Asomugha, a multiple pro bowl performer and shuffle the deck to Routt as #1 and CJ #2. Downgrade.

Lose Gallery at LG and go with a rookie or journeyman FA in Heyer or backup journeyman in Loper. Downgrade.

Simple question that boils this debate down to the bare essence:

In what position did we upgrade by adding an external free agent?

Raiders attend workout of QB Terrelle Pryor

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at 11:15 am in Oakland Raiders.

A Raiders scout was at the workout of Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor on Saturday morning. Pryor is regarded as the most attractive player of the six entered in the supplemental draft.

Seeing the Raiders scout confirms the team’s interest. Coach Hue Jackson downplayed the Pryor angle when asked about him Thursday.

The Raiders already are without second- and fourth-round picks in the 2012 NFL draft. However, it’s likely that they will gain at least one compensatory pick for a net loss of free agents in 2011.

Agreed PR. A man is only as good as his word.

#1 I didn't sign off on the Pryor deal. Pryor is not a free agent but a 3rd round supplemental draft pick PROJECT.

#2 The Raiders have not made a "splash in free agency".

If you were a "man of your word", you would depart now. Adios.

And yes, there is an excellent chance we will sign a FA LB in the next few days with Goethel being out for the year with a torn ACL. This is not a "splash" though ... it is a reactive move to cover for an injury just like the Boss signing was no more than a reactive move to replace Miller.

Ask any Raider fan or NFL fan the simple question:

Did the Raiders make a splash in free agency this year and the answer is unequivocally, resounding "NO". Why? Because we didn't.

We didn't make a splash in free agency but I knew full well that you would spin this and make it more complicated than necessary.

Projected Possibilities:

"QB"s...Vince Young/Carson Palmer
"WR"s...Vincent Jackson/Plaxaco Burris
"OT"....________________________
"OLB"...________________________
"Sup-Draft"...Slash Pryor

Now what the hell else do they want???...

#1...Kevin Boss

#2...Terrelle Pryor as specified in that challenge...

Than add in this: Signed "FA"s

"QB" Trent Edwards
"OT"/"G" Stephon Heyer
OG Justin Smiley Retired
"LB" Darryl Blackstock
"TE" Kevin Boss
"C" Samson Satele resigned
"WR" Chad Jackson
"WR" Derek Hagan
"RB" Michael Bush resigned
"SS" Josh Bullocks
"FS" Matt Giordano
"S"/"CB" Michael Huff resigned

Count them...That's 12 "FA"s -n- 1 "Sup-Draft" pick signed sense this challenge took place...Two of whom are without a doubt "Big Name FA's"...

But have no fear "RT" there are more to follow and NO...The injury to a Non_Starter at "LB" will NOT void the addition of a "Big Name LB" if added now!!!...

Pryor is a long shot, project at best who has zero chance of playing QB and less than 1% chance to learn a new position (WR/Slash), play, and make an impact. An effective

Big trades are highly unlikely since the Raiders have very few quality draft choices to bargain with.

Reggie also guaranteed all Seymour's $$$$...Released Routt while owing a huge bonus that evidently will count against that CAP with nothing to show for it....Tagged Branch which further puts us over that CAP when a "Transition" Tag would have saved $$$$ and been an out if some team was willing to pay that price...

Marc is also human and will as such also make his fair share of mistakes...He has taken full credit for the Palmer/Curry trades so likewise also full credit for the "Overdraft" on the CAP that this has created...Had it NOT been for these deals the Raiders would NOT now be in the RED and having to squirm to get under that CAP!!!!!!

Dennis may yet prove to be a good hire but as i stands right now it don't look very damn good!!!...His 1st rookie mistake was to name Knapp as "OC"...Than he made up for that error by retaining Al Saunders as Sr "O" Assistant along with Skipper -n- Wiz...But his hire of a "ZBS" "OL" coach who has never been the main man is very suspect as we will now have 2 "OL" assistance perhaps pulling in opposite directions...None of which will make any sense to your substandard football brains!!!

Dennis than hired a "DC" from the college ranks who has NO NFL experience and didn't post great #'s at the lower level as his "DC"...Again very suspect!!!...The same can be said for his "DB" coaches and the new "WR" coach which should be better than what we had because that boy sucked!!!...But that doesn't make it a great hire...

So now please!!!!...Just what the hell has been done that you punk asses are so damn high about besides the fact that Al Davis is no longer involved!!!!

Former Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Josh Evans said the team had a player-run incentive program for big plays when Gregg Williams was an assistant coach.

Evans told The New York Times that the system was already prevalent within the Houston Oilers organization in 1995 when he was signed as an undrafted free agent and Williams was the linebackers coach. The program remained when the team moved to Tennessee in 1997 and Williams was promoted to defensive coordinator, Evans said.

Absolutely false and, frankly, delusional.

Contracts were scheduled to escalate. How difficult is that to understand?

Contracts were back-loaded and huge bonuses were deferred so Davis could protect cap space and retain overpriced, overpaid players he signed.

That is all coming to a head now.

How is it McKenzie's fault? He didn't sign any of those contracts. He stated contracts were out of wack and he's working to correct that right now.

You make it sound like McKenzie gave Raider players huge pay raises and set the team up for cap failure.

Leave it to JONES to cite the moral standard of the decade. There's nothing wrong with intentionally attempting to end an opposing player's career so long as it doesn't draw a penalty flag.

Hey, Asshole. The policy in itself is a penalty - which is why the whole team is being penalized. And the investigation is not yet completed. More punishments may be handed out, including to our own new HC should it be determined he promoted it and/or carried the policy to Denver.

Calico, your position that no one should criticize any move by the current regime is childish. And your claim that former (and current) defenders of Davis seem to have no problems making complaints now, when before they refused to recoganize any mistakes by Davis, is wholey inaccurate. Actually, it's a lie, because you know better than that. Many of us have criticized Davis' moves repeatedly. We just managed to do it with a little respect.

But you guys do a great job of perpetuating the great new American attitude. It's not enough to disagree with someone, you have to condemn them, and everything they've ever stood for. And if you ever agreed with them, you have to deny that and either pretend that they never held that position or you never agreed with it.

I also wonder if someone can tell me why they think "transparancy" is so important (not that I think we're getting anymore than before -other than what should be expected in an organizational transition). We're not talking about democratic government here. We're talking about a privately owned football team. Why does every other football team in the league need to know what the Raiders are doing?

Gee, Needledick (I bet I can come up with more bad names than you) I understand the football is a tough game. I understand that the players occasionally hit very hard. What is not okay is intentionally ending some one's career. I know that's all political sport for you, and that's precisely the problem.

I'm frankly fed up with dimwitted snot rags like you who make grand displays of anger to cover your ignorance.

One of the things commonly recognized on this site has been Davis' prowess in signing players and as a capologist. But for those who must destroy the memory of Al Davis in order to shield their stupidity, now that it is pointed out that we're over the cap this off season (as we have been before), it must be claimed that Davis was an incompetent loser regarding these things.

Over the last ten years alone, we have ranged from no cap problems to large cap problems and Davis had resolved the issue with relative ease and gotten ALL BUT ONE of his players ON TIME. Davis has had bigger cap problems than the current one in the past, and disposed of it with ease. If McKenzie and Allen can't, that speaks to THEIR shortcomings, not Davis'.

Personally, I think McKenzie is competent and won't have a problem - just like he says he won't have a problem. McKenzie won't ask to be treated like a genius for getting over that hump because it's expected of him. However, I'm sure there will be more than a few here touting his brilliance.

NY, you feel that if you rag on Davis it's okay. If you rag on anyone who replaces Davis, you're not a Raider fan. Interesting point of view.

However, I've supported McKenzie before he was even named. He was, after all, my preferred choice to replace Davis.

Allen I know very little about. And neither does anyone else in the league. He's never been to this level before. Still and all, I doubt McKenzie knew or was aware of the NO policy before he hired Allen. It's a little secret that Allen brought with him.

Personally, I'd like to see him denounce the policy before other players in the league begin to target our guys in retaliation against him.

I guess it's JONES' point of view that Tatum absolutely tried to break Stingley's neck. NO TEAM is a bigger promoter of hard hitting than the Raiders. It's part of the sport.

What is NOT a part of the sport is intentionally trying to deprive someone else of their livelihood. Players tend to take a really dim view of that. If you were on the field hunting heads, and opposing players got on to that, they would make certain to put the kibosh on your career. Although I suspect you'd leave the field crying long before that occurred.

Players who attempt to end the careers of others (without the tacit promotion of their coaches) are generally untalented wimps who have careers that don't last long to begin with. You probably know all about that.

What has seemed to escape you lizard functioning brain is that the NO policy was aimed at INJURING opposing players. It was not just to ring their bells and let them know you were here. The policy was to do something that could very possibly put an end to their career.

This not only endangers opposing players, but it also endangers your own players in retaliations.

You know JONES, when I was in high school we actually played a team of idiots like you. They couldn't keep up with us, so they resorted to trying to take our players out. Without throwing a single pass, we beat them 21-0 and not one of our players left the game due to injury.

BR,

My position is simple: feel free to criticize McKenzie and Allen and whatever you see fit. This is a blog after all. I just think it is way too early to be making any significant conclusions.

Quite frankly I was surprised that you tapped out so quickly on the Raiders before we've had the draft, free agency, and our 1st practice.

BTW, I'm still waiting to hear your specific criticism ... what exactly haven't you liked about how McKenzie and Allen have conducted business to date?

The notion that I have been disrespectful to Al Davis in my criticisms is a complete lie. I have consistently given blame and credit when deserved. I have also continually paid tribute to ALL of Al Davis' contributions to the Raiders and the NFL.

If you think pointing out 9 non-winning/non-playoff seasons and an 80+ year old man wearing too many hats is disrespectful, then we will have to agree to disagree. I had been advocating that Davis get executive help for many years.

Huh? So you’re not a Raiders fan?

You keep saying you supported McKenzie from Day 1, but you sound awfully bitter toward both he and Dennis Allen. It’s a funny way of showing your support.

Maybe you’re just mad because both McKenzie and Mark Davis have pointed out some revealing, yet truthful shortcomings that have plagued the Raiders for years.

These two guys have opened all our eyes, and that seems to piss you off.

Is it disrepectful when it comes directly from the son of Al Davis?

Raiders are over the CAP by a figure around $22 Mil

Players who were signed after the passing of Al Davis count for about $20+ Mil of that overage....

So it's pretty damn apparent that the overage was due to what transpired after rather than before Al's passing...

The overage escalated as a result of the "FT" put on Branch...Who did that???

Who traded for Palmer/Curry???

Who released Routt and caused us to eat his $$$$ without any rewards???

Thus where should the blame be issued???

Who will now have to deal with it???

Yes that's right!!!...They same folks who caused it!!!!

Only a naive, ignorant child wouldn't understand that

(1) Branch was tagged because he was deemed as one of the more important pieces to what the Raiders are trying to build on D.

(2) Routt was released to SAVE future cap dollars. Keeping him would have been more damaging than cutting him loose.

(3) Palmer and Curry were acquired by Baby Huey. What, do you want McKenzie to cut Palmer? Yeah right. McKenzie will figure out a way to keep Curry if he is worthy.

The mature view about dealing with the bloated payroll is that McKenzie/Allen have made some tough choices with more to follow. There will be consequences to getting in cap compliance.

Cap compliance is based on the cap numbers of the 51 highest-paid players on the roster.

Q: How many of the Raiders 51 highest paid players on the roster were signed by McKenzie?

A: 1, Tyvonn Branch

Sorry, but you've been misinformed from the beginning.

Routt cost the Raiders $15M for one year of service.

Had Routt remained with the Raiders, he would have cost another $5M +/- which, by itself, is more than he's worth.

Too, it's not just about the $$$, it's about getting value for your investment. The list of overpaid players that provided little or no return on investment is too long to recite.

One very sad possibility is that Davis knew of his condition and he shot the moon for one last chance at a championship. Sadly, that might explain the "wacked" contracts from last year.

BTW, my understanding is that Campbell, Bush and other free agents no longer count against the Raiders cap figure, so there is significant offset to what Palmer and Curry count against the cap... still not enough!

Raiders | Kamerion Wimbley not interested in pay cut

Mon, 05 Mar 2012 10:42:32 -0800

Oakland Raiders LB Kamerion Wimbley is not interested in taking a pay cut but is willing to restructure his contract in a way where the team could receive some salary cap relief. Wimbley likely will be released if the two sides are not able to reach an agreement.

NO!!!...Are the Raiders considering rolling his $$$$ back to a later date???..."NYR" said that's what got the Raiders in this $$$$ financial mess!!!

From Corkran:

In a perfect world, the Raiders would go after a big-name receiver such as Vincent Jackson, who escaped the franchise tag and is headed for unrestricted free agency.

In Jackson, the Raiders would get a legitimate No. 1 target for quarterback Carson Palmer and someone who would take off pressure from the other receivers.
The Raiders also wouldn’t have to worry about covering Jackson twice a year any longer as they have the past seven seasons when he starred for the San Diego Chargers.

Signing a big-time receiver such as Jackson won’t come cheaply. The Raiders aren’t flush with salary-cap room and aren’t in a position to compete with some teams loaded with cap room. However, it can be done, as long as Jackson is willing to take more money in latter years, beginning in 2013.

Oh!!...My God Cork are you ever going to be chastised now!!!...Didn't you know that signing a player and moving his $$$$ to a later point is the real reason that the Raiders are in such a $$$$ CAP Mess????

Why for the love of Pete (Who?) would anyone ever proceed in such a way???

Oh!!...Ya!!...Now I get's it...

The other teams who want his services may have the $$$ to spend now while we don't...So a little creative $$$$ financial management and we get his services despite our limited $$$$ financial situation!!!

Sorta like buying that car or home on time when you don't have all the $$$$ in your pocket now but a damn good job on which to speculate!!!

But if you speculate incorrectly you may find yourself in the same situation as "DeadBeatJack" who's being hounded by the "Collection Board" for unpaid past due gambling debt!!!...

But than that's prolley a very familiar position for him to be in considering his present stance on the matter....Once a "DeadBeat" always a "DeadBeat" I always say....

"NYR"...

You still shoot at the Moon but only loaded blanks!!!

The Routt contract according to the reports is now counting some $11 Mil against the 2012 CAP but evidently only $5 Mil in 2011...Now that totals about $16 Mil for the one year service which would have been 2 full seasons had the Raiders not cut him and paid the remaining $5 Mil...In other words for about $21 Mil 2 seasons instead of some $16 Mil for one!!!...Now that's paying a penalty for letting him go early!!!

Now you have to make up your own mind what was worth the most here???

But Reggie evidently decided to save the $5 Mil that he will now have to spend on another player to take Routt's place or hope that the replacement is already on the roster...

The possibility is that Huff now moves into Routt's vacated "CB" spot...That's according to recent speculations based upon a conversation with Routt and Dennis...

Than the 2nd "CB" spot would be maned by "DVD"/"CC" or "CJ" if he's not released???....I would hope "CJ" gets released and another quality player is brought in!!!

You can't figure in any "Off Set" for players NOT under contract...They are counted as a loss if we can't sign then and already Branch is guaranteed his $6.2 Mil against the CAP....

The only other contracts that have escalations built in for this CAP is Palmer -n- Curry who restructured prior to being traded to make a trade possible...That was done by their teams and than applied to the Raiders this season if they retain those players...That had absolutely NO connection to Al Davis what so ever...It's all on Marc!!!...

The only other player contract that escalates is Wimbley who has an escape clause if released by 3-13 now just a week away but he has said he's willing to restructure but NOT willing to take a cut in pay...His contract was done under Al Davis with an out!!!....Are you crying about that???

WHO???

"The list of overpaid players that provided little or no return on investment is too long to recite."

Vague and of questionable source!!!

Sounds like an accusation to me and unfounded tripe!!!

So...I assume that you have finally got a grip on the simple fact that Al Davis had his team operating in the BLACK!!!...

That after all that crying and bitchin last season by you "New Optimist" the Raider finished the 2011 season well under the CAP with a surplus rather than a deficit that was than applied forward...So Al had his house in order!!!...

Are you finally getting that picture or are you still trying to paint falsehoods on this issue???

Al's house was in order!!!

Al's son sorta blew things up a little but with good intent NOT malicious...He's a rookie so I give him that!!!...Together with Reggie they will now set Al's house back in order and try to advance from there...

Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman said Monday that Tampa Bay players were warned by their coaches about potential "cheap shots" from the New Orleans Saints defense before the division rivals met during the past three seasons.

Freeman also said the league's investigation and findings against the Saints and their former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams came as no surprise to him.

“We just knew every time we played the Saints, they were going to take some cheap shots," Freeman said Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "I mean, it was always something we acknowledged.

Clearly, you are saying McKenzie was wrong to release Routt?

FYI, Routt was NEVER worth the contract he was awarded. That much was obvious from Day 1.

Is that McKenzie's fault too?

The decision to release Routt was as out of cap necessity and poor performance. Both issues that fall to the decision to sign him with a huge guarantee.

Routt is only one example. The list is long!

Frankly, the Raiders have no value to show for any of the huge contracts they've signed. This team is nine years removed from a winning record. Draft picks, coaching decisions, huge contracts, poor personnel decisions, etc., have plagued the Raiders for at least the last nine years.

During this entire period, you had nothing but praise and optimism. Now McKenzie's on the job for a matter of weeks, and he can't do anything right?

See the problem?

This transition into the new era will face some tough decisions, significant challenges, and pot holes to navigate. And I'm fine with that and blind not to recognize it.

The change that is expected throughout the football operation under general manager Reggie McKenzie manifested itself Tuesday with the hiring Lamonte Winston as the Raiders’ director of player engagement.

Winston, who spent 17 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, including 14 as the director of player development, will consult with players on life skills issues including preparing for career after football.

LoL!!!...Than it turns out that this is just a new name for an old position "Squad Development" previously held by Willie Brown who has moved up to some undisclosed position with the franchise...LoL!!....Now jump on that one "New Optimist"!!!

Meanwhile Payton is about to be released outright...."FA"....LoL!!

This re: Our new "FA" "WR" whom I was pimping...

Vincent Jackson is a freak of nature at receiver with tremendous size and speed, and the 29-year-old will be the most highly coveted offensive player available. A number of teams need a No. 1 receiver and many of those same teams just happen to have a ridiculous amount of cap room, as well. Washington and Chicago could end up in a bidding war here, and Jackson is going to end up making more than $10 million a year.

For the record I would dearly love to sign him but doubt it happens...Lots of $$$ and we have more severe needs now on "D" with little real help available threw the draft...But if the "OldMan" was still involved I would be pushing this one hard!!!....LoL!! Al would have found a way...

Now this brings me to another possibility that "BR" already touched upon...How eager will "FA"s be to come in under a "GM" who comes from the ranks of such a known "Cheapskate" like "GB"???...It won't be the huge $$$$ that lures these guys anymore right...So what brings them threw that door when it's someone else waving that huge $$$$ in their faces???

So...I assume that you have finally got a grip on the simple fact that Al Davis had his team operating in the BLACK!!!...

That after all that crying and bitchin last season by you "New Optimist" the Raiders finished the 2011 season well under the CAP with a surplus rather than a deficit that was than applied forward...So Al had his house in order!!!...

Are you finally getting that picture or are you still trying to paint falsehoods on this issue???
-----------------------------------

Now was Al's house in $$$ financial order or NOT???

Now when did that $$$ financial order become disrupted and how??

Now who is responsible for that $$$ financial deficit???

No doubt you will try to avoid this situation like the plague!!!

Check/Check Mate....Your painted in a corner again!!!

And ah!!...Why all the avoidance of the issues relating to Dennis Allan and his previous involvement in "BoutyGate"???....The fear here must be overwhelming!!!

Are you so afraid to see that "BlackEye" under his patch???

Actually "NYR" at this point I think this is just another one of those "I Just Want To Ague" little episodes that you like to get into even when the evidence is overwhelmingly against the issue your trying to pimp!!!

Al's team was in the BLACK as already documented by numerous substantiated reports....PERIOD!!!

Thus that $3.23 Mil surplus which was applied forward to the 2012 CAP...This even after Marc made his trade deals for Curry -n- Palmer....

You can't argue that!!!...It's documented FACTS!!!!

It's also documented FACTS that the new $$$$ is from the contracts of players who were signed after Al's passing....Again that's documented facts and this is what has destabilized the 2012 CAP $$$$...

There is quite simply nothing else to debate here...Al had his team operating in the BLACK!!!

Now it's on Reggie to find a way to do the same but so far we have gone further in the RED rather than towards the BLACK!!!...

Now that's just a reality that your being forced to live with and NO amount of "Fantasy" will change that for you!!!

10:11 PM
Blogger PantyRaider said...

Reality!!...This seems to be the issue with you "Optimist Pimps"!!..You dream up some Fantasy and project that unto everything around you demanding that things need to fit your perceived perceptions rather than being able to view the "Reality" around you and simply digest that is indeed what it really is...

I question if this goes much deeper than just football -n- sports...If so you should all seek professional help before you inflict your "Fantasy Perceptions" of what should be the reality upon everyone around you!!!

Like that demanding parent or spouse that demands his own to be what they are not and what he could NOT...Or that owner or boss who tries to do likewise by pushing someone into a mold of what he perceives to be the appropriate reality that employee should fit...These type of folks are never very successful in life because they can never just "Let it be" and come to grips with what truly is...REALITY!!!

All threw the past few seasons all you bastards have done is try to inflict Al Davis with your "Perceived Realities" instead of just dealing with the reality that was...He did things his own damn way and it's NOT your freakin $$$$ nor your freakin Franchise!!!

So now that your dreams have been fulfilled and the Raiders have that shiny new "GM" (Who "BR" -n- I were pimping) your running around hiding your eyes because it just ain't what you preached it would be Baby!!

#1...NO there's NO long list of top tier coaches lined up to work for the Raiders!!!...To the contrary we have selected the very same type of coaching staff that would have been selected under Al Davis including the return of Knapp as "OC" who was previously hired by Al himself!!!...Mostly a bunch of Newbies or Retreads!!!..NOT a "Top Tier" coach in the bunch and as a matter of fact we were shunned for the 1st time I can ever remember with a refusal to even interview!!!

#2....That $$$$ Cap is over the hill and now we need extreme restraints to deal with it and try to improve this team threw "FA"...We now have NO 1st this season nor a 2nd next season...

#3...It may be that players are now stubborn about restructuring or taking cuts because maybe they don't believe they will be taken care of later like they would have been under Al Davis???

#4...I don't see any list of top tier "FA"s standing in line to come and play here...Why would they once they see our own shit canned the way Routt was and the way others have been threatened with it...

#5....Our shiny new "HC" is surrounded by controversy which could end up provoking even more punishment on our team by those damn "Zebra"!!!

Now all the wile you new "Optimist Pimps" are trying to hide from any and all of these real life issues while still trying to promote some fictitious Fantasy as your "Perceived Reality" rather than the reality that is real....

It ain't what you pimped it to be so just live with it Baby!!!

And guess what!!...Those other teams who had their shiny "GM"s are NOT what you pimped it to be either....Saints/Skins/Titans/Bills and prolley others as case in point all under investigation in BoutyGate"!!!

But NEVER Al's Raiders!!!...NEVER!!!

PantyRaider...You Obviously Need Professional Help!!!/_

And "LIARJack" can't live up to the same image he tries to portray in his "Fantasy" either...Refusal to honor a gambling debt is a kin to refusing to honor a contract or any other promise made...Just a "LIARJack"!!!

Now jump on that one "New Optimist"!!!

Sure. I will be happy to.

Welcome aboard Lamonte Winston! As McKenzie alluded to in his initial PC, he will upgrade the organization where he sees fit from the water boy to the roster to the executive management team. Awesome! Clearly McKenzie views Lamonte Winston as someone who can improve the overall organization well-being.

No on Vincent Jackson. Due to our cap restrictions we need to prioritize our spending of cap dollars to get the best return on our investment. The WR position is not an immediate need and there are far more important positions to upgrade the talent level.

Regarding the "black eye" for Dennis Allen, there is nothing to date to implicate him in any shape or form. To suggest otherwise is reckless and completely out of line. As the secondary coach of the Saints, he clearly wasn't the one that was in a position of authority to start the bounty program, endorse the the bounty program, promote the bounty program, start the bounty program, stop the bounty program, etc. Even if he was aware of the program (very likely), did you want him to rat out Williams?

The entire notion of Allen as being culpable is laughable and ultimately shows your true colors. You are looking for reasons (which are not there) to bash YOUR new head coach. And you call yourself a Raider fan? Please. The very least that would be expected of any Raider fan and reasonable person is to AT LEAST allow the investigation to run it's course. But no. You want to make hasty, ignorant conclusions. In essence, you are hoping that Allen fails before even the 1st practice is conducted. Pathetic.

Being under the cap (in the black, as you say) is league rule. By that measure, so were 31 other teams. That's nothing special!

What Davis did that separates himself is defer huge payments that are crippling current management while they try and "fill holes" throughout the organization.

So far, McKenzie has drop cap space, not added to it. Routt was about to receive a $5M roster bonus courtesy of AL.

As it stands, AL's guarantee to Routt will force the Raiders to almost double what KC will pay him in 2012. Routt hit the lottery jackpot!

As I said, Routt is only one example on a long list of lottery winners.

Stop with the false info already!!!

#1..."Davis did is defer huge payments that are crippling current management"

"BS"...Where???....The huge 2012 deferred $$$ was in Curry -n- Palmer which Al Davis had absolutely NOTHING to do with!!!

#2..."Routt was about to receive a $5M roster bonus courtesy of AL."

"BS"...Does receive and getting cut did nothing about that $$$$...It was a roster bonus from 2011...

#3..."As it stands, AL's guarantee to Routt will force the Raiders to almost double what KC will pay him in 2012."

That's an absolute lie!!..."KC is paying him $11 Mil this season...The Raiders will evidently pay him $11 Mil in 2012 which is equal to what KC is paying NOT double!!!

His total 2011 salary against the CAP was apparently only $4 Mil which is minimal for a starting "CB"!!!...

Now get your shit straight before you paint yourself into another corner that you can't walk out of...Routt would have collected a $5 Mil salary for 2012 had he played...That would have been an average of $10 Mil per season for 2 seasons which is still less than what "KC" is paying him this season...

#4..."As I said, Routt is only one example on a long list of lottery winners."

Who??....You keep making this claim now where are the facts???...State your freakin case or shut the hell up!!!

Freeman says Bucs were warned about dangerous hits by Saints

Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman said Monday that Tampa Bay players were warned by their coaches about potential "cheap shots" from the New Orleans Saints defense before the division rivals met during the past three seasons.

Freeman also said the league's investigation and findings against the Saints and their former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams came as no surprise to him.

“We just knew every time we played the Saints, they were going to take some cheap shots," Freeman said Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "I mean, it was always something we acknowledged.

WTF!!!...Ya mean to tell us that teams were aware but the freakin NFL turned a blind eye and let it go on???

Now this be some real lame crap and the entire NFL should now be under investigation and especially Goodal and his damn "Zebra"!!!

Now if that name ain't a god damn misnomer!!!

If Denis has info in this regard than let him come forth and come clean now…It will remove any future reproach that might be thrown at our football team in the process and give Allan a more respected stance in the issues as someone who voluntarily divulged what he knew instead of one who has been drug across that “RedCarpet”!!!

PR said: "Stop with the false info already!!!"

Because you don't believe or aren't willing to accept it doesn't make it false.

My response to your #1: Every time Davis worked a deal or restructured a contract, payments were deferred as much as possible. That's capology 101. Guarantees are used in conjunction with deferments to provide players assurance of getting paid at the back end, e.g., what Routt is getting now.

PR said: "#2 ...It was a roster bonus from 2011..."

NYR: Semantics, which disproves your #1... payments do get deferred.

PR: "#3 That's an absolute lie!!..."KC is paying him $11 Mil this season...The Raiders will evidently pay him $11 Mil in 2012 which is equal to what KC is paying NOT double!!!

NYR: I don't believe your numbers are accurate, but the the $11M figure is staggering. The Raiders are getting robbed!

Again, the fact remains that the Raiders are still paying Routt huge money, and he's not alone.

Look up past and present $$$ for Eugene, Henderson, Routt, Wimbley, Kelly, Huff. Their huge pay increases were not predicated on then-performance. Worse, with the possible exception of Kelly, none of these guys have stepped up since getting paid.

WRT you labeling me a liar, I would respectfully ask that you refrain from the type of exchange that we've had in the past. In return, I will try and tone down my remarks as well.

Stop with the false info already!!!
-----------------------------------
NOT that I wanted to go back to that LIAR issue again...To the contrary I want false info to get cleaned up and actual facts presented in reality NOT some fictitious Fantasy or "HateTrip"s...

So we all make mistakes and are misled by false info posted by some damn "Mediot" who was too damn lazy to check his source or just didn't care...Life is what it is...But when better factual evidence is brought forth why should there be a resistance to it??...I just don't get that!!!

The reported info went from being some $3.2 Mil under to being some $25 Mil over the CAP in a week or so...Than it became clear that the under $$$ was from 2011 and the overage was in 2012 and related to the Curry/Palmer contracts as well as a couple others like Routt -n- Wimbley who has an out clause...

Your issue all along has been with Routt and his $$$ and your dislike for his performance to $$$$ value...Aside from the penalties that I think were largely unjustified his play wasn't all that bad and obviously "KC" after playing against him desired his services as well...

My only gripe is that the cost escalated when we get nothing in return for the investments...Had he remained on our roster he would have cost us $10 Mil per season...NOT $15 Mil for one -n- done!!!...Especially when it comes out that $11 Mil still counts against the 2012 CAP with his release...Now that sucks and it can no longer be renegotiated!!!

Had he stayed and possibly reworked that deal it may have been much better than what we ultimately end up with and now who takes his place???...Looks to be a double whammy from where I sit??

Than Reggie goes ahead and pins the "FT" on Branch???...The "Transition Tag" would have saved $$$ and still done the job but if he left we get a 1st rd pick out of it...So I don't really get that either as our CAP continues to escalate...

Now because I raise legitimate questions about the current doings of the front office I'm a "Hater" when throughout the past few seasons that's all this board has done is project one adverse take after another at Al Davis and blame him for anything and everything wrong in the universe....So I don't get that either???

What else I don't get is the constant desire to pin something bad onto Al Davis like he's still to blame for everything wrong in this world???...Nothing can be said positive about the new regime without snide remarks being thrown at the memory of Al Davis...For what possible purpose other than that perpetual "HateTrip" and celebration of his death!!!

So there's allot that I just don't get???

Here's an example of what I'm bitchin about:

A) The dollar has been able to make a few gains but ultimately loses again although it is a little higher than last year...

B) Obama is at least raising the value of the dollar slowly after the terrible financial trouble that Bush left us in with his holy war on terror but there's a tremendous gap yet to overcome!!!

Now do you see the difference here...

In "B" I projected my "HateTrip" for Bush and everything he stands for onto the dollar issue while padding Obama on the back with excuses because it's not his fault!!!

While in "A" I simply made a positive comment about the dollar without any unnecessary gibberish relating to who was there before...

That's the deal that's takin place on this board!!!

You "IAAF"ers continue your condemnations of the man every chance you get....Now I just don't get that...Not in life and most certainly not now in death!!!

Madden says bounties 'won't happen again' after ruling

The NFL has yet to announce disciplinary measures against ex-defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and the rest of the perpetrators in the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" scandal; nor has Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed a timeline for when he expects to make a decision on any penalties.

But once he does, Hall of Fame coach and co-chairman of the NFL's safety panel John Madden expects Goodell to drop the hammer.

"When (Goodell) does something and he gets them -- and I don't know what the discipline is -- but I'll tell you what, when he puts some teeth in the rules or whatever he's going to do, it won't happen again," Madden said Tuesday in an interview with The Los Angeles Times.

Madden said that whatever penalty Goodell hands out will be enough of a deterrent to dissuade anyone from replicating a "pay for performance" system while Goodell is the league's commissioner.

"It will be gone," Madden said. "You'll look back years from now and say, 'Remember when they used to do that?' They won't do it anymore."

Madden, chairman of the coaches' subcommittee of the competition committee, also told The Times that the league is considering making the referee solely responsible for watching the quarterback throughout the entirety of the play.

"I don't know that the referee can be watching holding on the offensive line and get back to the quarterback," he said. "I think watching the quarterback is a full-time job."

Who will be the named:

"the rest of the perpetrators in the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" scandal"

Already named are:

"ex-defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, head coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis"

PR - it's hard to tell if your negativity comes at the expense of the Raiders or to spite some (most) of us who have embraced the new era of Raiders football.

I never said your report of the Raiders being under the cap (say, $3.2M) last year wasn't accurate. But the salaries on any football team are a moving target from year to year.

My point is simply that we have been left in a very difficult situation, which is why McKenzie had no choice but to release Routt... not to mention Routt isn't worth anything approaching his salary.

Granted, Palmer and Curry are not on Davis, but there is tremendous offset to these salaries created by FA players taken off the books, including Campbell's hefty salary.

If it's possible to sift through that, the balance of monies in the cap figure are a direct result of contracts shepparded by Davis.

As I said before, the sad truth might be that Davis was taking his last shot at something big.

Unfortunately, that did not happen. If you check my own posts, you will see I remained positive til the bitter end, then even stood behind retaining Jackson, until he more or less shot himself in the foot.

Now, events to date give me every reason to be extremely optimistic about the Raiders current direction.

Why aren't you on board? Or, again, are you just busting our chops for the sake of it?

Evasiveness of Saints GM, coach detailed in league summary

Coach Sean Payton tried to deter an NFL investigation into the "bounty" scandal in 2010 by telling staffers to "get your ducks in a row," when notified that league security was in New Orleans to interview team employees.

While former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is the central figure in the scandal -- 22 to 27 players also have been implicated -- the roles of Payton and Loomis were highlighted in a league summary that was obtained by NFL Network and NFL.com on Tuesday.

Loomis and Payton, who had been silent since the NFL's investigation surfaced Friday, took full responsibility for the violations in a statement released Tuesday.

According to the NFL's summary, Loomis failed to stop the bounty practice -- players and at least two assistant coaches paid for big plays and for hits that resulted in opposing players being carted off the field or knocked out of games -- after being alerted by NFL security in 2010 and owner Tom Benson in January of 2012, drawing a strong rebuke.

"In this respect, he failed to ensure that the club, and the coaching staff he supervised, conducted themselves in a way consistent with league rules and further failed to carry out the express instructions of the club's owner," the summary reads.

The summary also found that in "early" 2010, when NFL security went to investigate Saints employees, Payton told his staff to, "get your ducks in a row." Payton is said to have been aware of the "bounty" program with an email from convicted felon and marketing agent Mike Ornstein confirming as much.

"Coach Payton also received an email from Ornstein committing $5,000 towards a bounty on an opposing quarterback, which the coach recognized as a pledge toward a bounty," the summary stated.

Ornstein, a marketing agent for former Saints running back Reggie Bush and a confidant of Payton's who pleaded guilty last year to illegally selling Super Bowl tickets, pledged $10,000 toward the quarterback bounty in 2009, according to the summary. On at least two occasions in 2011, Ornstein "pledged substantial sums toward a bounty on an opposing quarterback."

According to the report, Williams, along with linebackers coach Joe Vitt, initially denied a "bounty" program in the 2010 investigation,

This:

"at least two assistant coaches paid for big plays and for hits that resulted in opposing players being carted off the field or knocked out of games -- after being alerted by NFL security in 2010"

So now who are those 2 assistant coaches from the 2010 season when our "HC" was still there????...The "LB" coach has been mentioned but was he one of the payers or just in denial???

This Boyz is some very serious shit that can/may go well beyond just the NFL courts if someone elects to file charges....Felony Charges!!!....

"NYR"...

As I have posted already I'm waiting for something substantial to get on board about...The only reason I bust your chops is because of the constant assaults upon the memory of Al Davis when he's NOT the source of theses present $$$$ issues...

This is still incorrect:

"If it's possible to sift through that, the balance of monies in the cap figure are a direct result of contracts shepparded by Davis."

NO!!...Those "FA"s no longer counted for any $$$ so were never added in...Bush/"JC" and such are NOT currently under contract and neither was Branch...But he is now and Guaranteed to the tune of $6.2 Mil....

That projected $145 Mil is inclusive of Palmer's -n- Curry's $20 Mil as well as Branch's $6,2 Mil....Take off the $3.2 Mil and that's our current escalated CAP above and beyond what was negotiated by Al Davis....

I pimped Reggie...I was surprised by the Dennis thing....I wanted Moss...But I said OK lets see what he can do....He pointed us to Knapp and I went threw the roof...Than I demanded that Al Saunders be retained because otherwise Knapp does nothing for me....Allan/Reggie gave me that...So I began to look at what Palmer was saying and started to gain a little more hope...Than the bad vibe showed up about the CAP $$$$ and than Branch was thrown some more $$$$$....So now I'm not really excited nor depressed but still waiting for something substantial to hang my hat on...

Well now it looks like I'm getting it but it ain't what I wanted....

"BountyGate"!!!

And our "HC" is far from cleared from this issue...This is real and needs to be settled and settled quickly if we want any chance in hell of bringing in "FA"s and competing this season...

So NO!!!...I'm NOT presently a very positive poster....It's still wait-n- see!!!

Panty, you are leaving out the Wimbley, Routt, Henderson, Richard Seymour, Kelly, Huff, CJ,DHB deals all of these deals where made while Mr.Davis was Captain of our Raiders Pirate ship. No one knows how he planned on working the cap and that went to the grave with him,now its up to the leaders installed by the owner to fix it and I believe they will.Just because the leader died doesn't make players not want to fight for the Silver and Black, I think some will revise their contracts and others may just walk away but I know for me I will be there opening day Cheering my team on!!

Don't forget the Raiders lost Nnamdi, Miller and Gallery because they were unaffordable from cap restraints. The team is not deep with talent but is max'd to the cap every year...and some will call that "capologist, with ease, good management" GTFO.

PR: Funny how you seem upset that Branch was tagged by McKenzie for $6.2M, or whatever the figure, but never questioned AL tagging Wimbley for somewhere around $10M after trying to exercise a buy-back option for $3.5M which turned out to exceed the NFL's 30 percent rule. Wimbley was making six figures before this all happened.

Subsequently, AL made Wimbley a very rich man.

That was one of the single-most bizarre player dealings I can ever remember... and it's still on the books. Wimbley is scheduled to make +/- $11M.

That's exactly the point. We have nothing to show for years and years of being among the highest payrolls.

We have no corners to speak of, but were forced to release Routt due to his unrealistically inflated contract. There are other axes still to fall.

All those contacts that you mentioned put us right at the top of our salary Cap with little to no room to wiggle....But the new ones put us over it to the tune of some $25 Mil and that's the point....These guys are trying to tie the overage back to Al Davis when it happened after his death...

That's on Marc -n- Reggie and now it's on them to clean it up...I think they will as players resolve their issues but there lingers some concern that the willingness may have diminished as a result of how Routt was handled....

Maybe it's no longer assumed that Al will take care of you which would be the cost of bringing in a "GM" from a known cheapskate like "GB"???

"NYR"...

That Wimbeley deal was NOT done while we were some $20 Mil over that CAP...And it was Al's $$$$ so I rarely ever bitched about how he wanted to spend it...Only when some suck ass like D Hall took advantage and didn't play for shit while running the mouth....Than I bitched about that player....Moss!!!...Otherwise you never seen me make any issue about the $$$$ and you won't....

It's Marc's $$$$$!!!!

And I'm not unhappy with Branch on our roster...I also would have been happy to have Routt stay another season...I want Wimbeley too...

The ones I have advocated leaving are Huff/"CJ"/Henderson/Cooper which would have cut about $20 Mil...

What I have done is question why a move was made the way it was...Why the "FT" instead of the "TT"....Any answers???

Reggie at work:

Seymour...

The reported restructure of Richard Seymour nearly cuts his cap hit in half for 2012. He contract was set at a guaranteed $14.06 million. In doing so, he was extended one season through 2014. His salary in 2012 will go from $7.5 million base down to the league minimum of $925 thousand with the remaining $6.575 million made into a signing bonus. His cap hit for 2012 is now a sleek $8.8 million for a savings of $5.98 million this year.

Huff...

The Raiders did the most sensible thing with Huff's contract-- they turned his roster bonus into a signing bonus. But they did one better. Before they did that, they reduced his base salary to $700 thousand and added the remaining $3.3 million to his roster bonus. THEN they changed it to a signing bonus. His previous roster bonus was $4 million, now it is $7.3 million and changing all that into a signing bonus allowed it to be spread out over the life of the deal which lowers his cap hit from (I hope you're sitting down) $9.8 million to $3.988 million. That clears out $5.8 of cap space. By Grapthar's Hammer, what a savings.

Total Savings:

Between the two of them, their restructures have saved the Raiders nearly $12 million off the cap. This means the Raiders go from being $22 million over, to just $10 million.

But I don't think this is including Branch's now Guaranteed $6.2 Mil???...But if it is than were no longer is such CAP hell but still well over....

Next up Wimbeley....

So it can prolley be assumed that Huff will be one of our new "CB"s...It will be interesting to see how well this works out...He played allot of "Nickle CB" this past season with very mixed reviews...

NFLPA wants NFL to facilitate interviews with Saints employees

The NFL Players Association released a statement Wednesday saying it wants "sufficient time" to do its own review of the league's report that the New Orleans Saints had a "bounty" system in place from 2009 to 2011.

One of the NFLPA's goals is to find out whether Saints coaches and management engaged in "coercive activities" to pressure players into participating in the program. An NFL investigation found defensive players were rewarded monetarily for making big plays and trying to injure opponents.

The NFLPA cited admissions by Saints management and coaches that the pay-for-performance program existed as evidence "they engaged in improper and coercive activities."

The NFLPA also asked the NFL to facilitate interviews with current and former Saints employees.

A league official said involved players will also face serious punishment.

No frigging way! They have 50 mil cap room to spend and are the best team that needs a QB... hands down.

They could easily buy a SB... and Manning knows it... this is a done deal. Bronco's sign Manning, and then watch the free agents flock to them. Same as they did when Gannon had his MVP season.

This is horrible news.

Why did you have to upset my laughter with that horrible concept???....That would SUCK!!!

But I doubt Payton has it in him to finish another NFL season and especially playing in the AFCW!!!

That Neck crap is noting to play with (Pun)...Believe me I know and very rarely does anyone come back from it with any real success story...

That said the drawback for the Raiders is that those "Zebra" will be protecting him like crazy and throw that yellow shit if any Raider even gets close....Now that would really SUCK!!!

That's the "Big Word" coming out of this whole "BountyGate" thing..."Gotta protect the "QB"s at all cost" as Madden is pimping along with the NFLPA -n- Goodhal so this will be a sure fire way to draw that yellow crap!!!

OH!!...And by the way!!...Relating further to "BountyGate" and the concept that Reggie had NO knowledge of this matter....Think again!!!

It was under NFL investigation way back in early 2010 after accusations were made....That was private knowledge but to suppose that NFL executives were restricted from this info is rather naive to say the least!!!...Than it was also investigated early on in 2012 and a mandate was issued during the season to "NO" which it ignored...To suppose that Reggie had NO knowledge of this is again very naive!!!...Allan was the "Donkey" "DC" this time around...

Now it has been reported how Reggie did his due diligence asking around the NFL about Allan and has been following him for several seasons....Do you really believe that there was never any info about what his involvement may have been in "BountyGate"???

"TB" has said that their players have been warned the past 3 season about this adverse conduct...Gruden was there during this time...Do you really believe he had NO info on it nor passed any info on to other NFL executives???

The "TB" ownership is at those "Owners Meetings" as well as every other owner and many times accompanied by their "GM" or "HC"s....Do you really believe that non of this info was ever leaked with discourse???...Do you really believe that "GB" never had any info in this regard???

By definition this is a "Conspiracy"....When 2 or more get together to do something illegal or immoral..."BountyGate" involved several coaches and players and at least one "GM"...

Now was there also a "Conspiracy" to cover this matter up???

Well there had to have been or you have to admit that every NFL team had knowledge of this sense that 2010 season...Ya just can't have it both ways...

So either or:

#1....Everyone was made aware and it was common knowledge amongst NFL executives including our Reggie!!!

#2...There was a "Conspiracy" to cover this matter up and thus restrict info from Reggie and all other NFL executives!!!

One or the other is true???...

And why wasn't this published as public info by the damn "Mediot"s???

Does anyone believe one of them would NOT have leaked it if there was no coverup???

So in conclusion there's something very fishy going on here and what it is ain't exactly clear!!!...YET!!!

But as I posted before Goodhal is no doubt involved up to his eyelids!!!

PantyRaider...We May Never Know The Truth!!!!/_

I want those Goodhal tapes!!!

Sorry but we had them destroyed along with all those "NE" spy tapes!!!

Did anyone read what Madden said about protecting the QB like they protect the kickers? Once the ball is in the air you can't touch them? Is senility setting in with Madden? The clear difference is that you can NEVER run into the kicker (unless the ball is touched or your blocked into him) how is a person trying to sack the QB supposed to stop in mid-air after he lets the ball fly??

Thats a crazy ass idea... shame on Madden.

Huff is a good blitzer... when given the chance. I remember the final game Breshnahan sent Gio on a safety blitz and Rivers had the ball off before he jogged past the LOS. It was hilarious... well I think it was a TD... but it still exemplified how clueless Bresh was... why send your slowest secondary player on a safety blitz from ten yards off??

Less predictable is key, IMO. Especially after years of watching SOB and Bresh.

Marshall wasn't too bad.. but still had no clue what a "zone blitz" is.

Time to step into the 2000's..

Gary,

Agree 100% about the need for our D to be less predictable. If our D is to carry their weight, more game impacting plays need to be made by catching the opponent off-guard and forcing mistakes.

Palmer has restructured his contract to help with the cap compliance.

If we can get Wimbley and Curry to restructure and make a few additional cuts (ie. Henderson and C.Johnson), we should get closer to the targeted cap # which stills needs to be finalized.

It would seem that the players are buying in...consider that a good sign that they like what they see from the new management/coaching team. If players weren't going along with trying to help cap wise, that would have been a red flag. Wimbley can go, he really isn't that good anyways, if he really thinks he is worth that money, he's dreamin.

I see that Routt considers himself a top 3 CB in the league. That is telling to his character and a reason why he was let go...sounds like Wimbley is in that boat. Cleaning out the trash, overpaid trash at that. "Me" players are no longer welcome in Oakland.

1st stop: Peyton Manning meets with Broncos brass

DENVER (AP)—Peyton Manning met for nearly six hours with the Denver Broncos on Friday, then left the team’s facility without speaking with reporters.

According to The Denver Post, the Broncos sent a plane to pick up Manning in South Florida, where he has a condo. He had traveled there after an emotional news conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday, when he said goodbye to the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 1998 and he led to the 2007 Super Bowl championship.

The plane then stopped in Stillwater, Okla., where Elway, Fox and Broncos general manager Brian Xanders were watching Oklahoma State’s pro day. That contingent joined Manning, and everyone flew back to Denver, the Post reported.

But that "Donkey" ain't very damn clean!!!

3 Broncos suspended for violating NFL drug policy

NEW YORK (AP)—The NFL suspended linebacker D.J. Williams, defensive tackle Ryan McBean and tight end Virgil Green of the Denver Broncos for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The league announced the suspensions on Friday.

McBean and Williams are suspended for Denver’s first six games of the 2012 season. Green is suspended for the team’s first four games. All three are suspended without pay.

The players are eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.

4-n-6 game suspensions are prolley due to past failures to comply...This is pretty stiff....

HEE!! HAH!!!!

Meanwhile out in OakTown:

Raiders cut Chris Johnson, Hiram Eugene

The Raiders got closer to getting under the salary cap by cutting cornerback Chris Johnson and safety Hiram Eugene. Johnson was due to make $3.5 million next season. New general manager Reggie McKenzie has now cut both of the team’s starting cornerbacks, as Stanford Routt was sent packing and quickly signed with the Chiefs.

Eugene missed last year with a hip injury and he failed a physical, the team said. He was due to make $2.25 million.

Curry restructures too

“I restructured my contract because I was born a Christfilled Raider! I’m excited to be able to Glorify God and build His Kingdom w/ the best Franchise ever!!! #TEAMJESUS #RaiderMentality #RaiderMentality”

And so tweeted Raiders linebacker Aaron Curry. The numbers weren’t available but this move should push the team under the salary cap. Curry was on the books for $5.75 million next season.

Than This: LoL!!!...As the "Cover-Up" lies begin!!

Brees denies knowledge of bounty program

Drew Brees says he has never participated in and was never aware of a "real" bounty program, and there would be no place for players being provided incentives to intentionally injure one another in any sport.

Well of course you nave participated as a "QB" unless you were paying to have the other "QB"s knees taken out!!!

But this was funny...

" never aware of a "real" bounty program"

Was there one that was just "Not Real" that you knew about LIAR!!!!

If Manning goes to Denver, he will get hit often. Not like in Indy when he would hardly get touched. Sounds like he isn't 100%, Denver can have him, he would be ripe for a 'bouty' on his head. His arm isn't 100% and he can't move, Raiders will be licking their chops to get to this guy.

Looks like Reggie held to his word in his initial press conference. He said he would get the cap done and it looks like it will be done "with ease". I can't wait to see what the coaching staff has in store, sounds like Huff is jazzed from talking to D.A., Seymour is in, McClain will have a good year...just need to get some decent CB's on the roster. I trust it will be looked after.

Don't ever talk shit about that Palmer trade again!!!

THIS:

Source: Redskins to trade for No. 2 pick from Rams

WASHINGTON (AP)—The Washington Redskins are poised to pay a hefty price to move into position to take Robert Griffin III.

A person familiar with the trade said the Redskins have a deal in place to acquire the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft from the St. Louis Rams. Washington will give up its first- and second-round selections this year, plus first-round picks in 2013 and 2014 in the trade, which can’t be completed until the new league year begins Tuesday.

The deal shifts the Redskins up four places from sixth in the April draft, leapfrogging any other team that would have an interest in the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor. The Indianapolis Colts are expected to take Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick.

LoL!!!...Pay (3) 1st -n- 2nd to move up 5 freakin spots in the 1sr rd to take a rookie "QB" who's yet totally unproven????
