Niners Pregame Take
Well, here we go. We get a two-for-one when we win today. We finally reach the .500 mark, and we send the Niners to 0-6. Plus, the Chargers just lost, and the Chiefs look like they're going down. All things considered, losing has never been more unacceptable. This is the ultimate statement game. Go Raiders!

Half time. The good news is, the Niners' offense looks a lot like our 2009 offense. The bad news is that our own offense isn't looking much better.
I can't believe we've fallen behind this awful team. Time to get some mojo going.

Raiders' WRs are a liability. There's no question about it. Can we please stop pretending otherwise.
The offensive playcalling was horrible. How many 1st downs did Hue Jackson call a run behind Gallery?
This was perhaps one of the most winnable games the Raiders will play all year. I thought the 49ers would play much better. They sucked, and the Raiders couldn't even keep up with them.
Campbell looked like a deer caught in the headlights, again.
If not for a couple nice drives last week (kept alive by penalties), I would say Campbell is no better than Russell. He put up very Russell-like numbers today.
Raiders are fortunate that the entire division lost today. They are 1-0 in the division and play the Broncos and Chiefs over the next three weeks. Those should be like playoff games if the Raiders expect this season to mean anything.
When you have an owner who insists on keeping a bust of a WR in the starting line-up, you know there's still some serious organizational issues at play, I'm not going to even bother calling for someone's head. It is what it is. More shuffling of the deck is sure to come this off-season though.
1st the good...Very little but have to look for it...
#1...The entire AFCW lost so we stay in a 3-way tie for 2nd with a lead because we haven't lost yet in the division...
#2...8-8 could win this division if we can ever get there...
#3...We had 110ys on the ground...
#4..."DHB" was our leading "WR"...
#5...Our "D" played well for 3 Quarters until they were wore out and made mistakes in coverage -n- playing the run...
#6...We had some good returns before they were taken away by the "Zebra" Flags...
#7...I having trouble coming up with that one...
The Bad...
#1..."JC" is NOT a quality/serviceable "QB"...He does OK in the 1st -w- scripted plays but after that he shuts down...Makes decisions late...Gets the ball to open receivers so late that the "DB"s have time to make up ground and play the ball...Those off target...Acts like a deer in headlights -n- almost gave up the "S"...Actually I think he did...
#2...Refer to "JC"...
#3...The "QB" is inept and than lame late in the 4th but we don't make a switch...What were the coaches thinking here..."Brain-Gas" like in the Tenn game...Or is Kile really that bad...
#4...What the hell were the "DB"s doing on that "Crab" "TD"...Fucked-Up Zone or just asleep...They seemed disoriented in this game taking a long time to get set...They were really out of sink when "SF" went no huddle and sped up the game...
#5...Ya shut down the run early and than late when ya know their going to run gore you play dead on that field..."F" for heart in the 4th...
#6...The "OL" couldn't open holes for shit...
#7...Ah! hell!...I'm tired of this already...
The reality...The AFCW sucks and can't even beat the damn weak-ass NFCW...We are still in it...We didn't lose any ground this week...But we made it very difficult to above "500" with the way we played this game...
Not everyone...The "D" needed a little help from the "O" in the 2nd-3rd-4th but just didn't get any...."WR"s were open but the ball was late or never close..."RB" did well despite the lack of holes aside from the muff by the "FB" on that Int...The "TE" was a man...
This was a team effort losing...Coaches/"QB"/"OL"/"D"-Late....

What a gawd awful football game.
I want those 3 hours back.
Coaching looked like they thought 9 points was going to win the game on both sides of the ball.
JaMarcus Campbell looked clueless and lethargic.
Bush looks fat and slow.
McClain looks like he learned how to play MLB by watching a career tape of Morrison.
Horrible, despicable game. We were playing not to lose... not to win at all.

Ohh... and if I saw Bush up the gut on first down once the last two weekends... I saw it 40 times.
The only play of the game I though Stu made correctly was the reverse...
That was one of the most pathetically conservative called game I think I have ever witnessed.
If he's our new coach, we are in a world of shit.
The QB play was average given the poor blocking up front by our OL. But the fact that our WR's can't get separation against a pretty weak secondary doesn't bode well for us in the future. We certainly don't have a QB on our roster that's going to have much of an impact on that reality IMO.
Outside of drafting Tim Brown, what WR has Al drafted since that is even average? And don't tell me Jerry Porter; that dude was feeding off slops left behind by Rice/Brown.

I don't know what game you were watching...I saw "WR"s open but by the time "JC" made the decision to pass the "DB"s had closed in and were making plays on the ball not just the man...That's a dead giveaway that it's late or telegraphed...If the timing is good the "DB"s only have time to play the man unless their making exceptional plays on the ball...That was not the case in this game...
Same for the tipped pass to Zack that he caught off the tip...He was open but by the time "JC" got him the ball he was covered top-n-bottom...
Balls were way off target or late frequently...Aside from the little dump-off shit that was working...Some of that looked good...

That's right, the WR's have no responsibility to get separation so that the QB can deliver the ball with 3 guys ripping at his throat. Seriously? How many years of poor WR play will is take for you to admit that we stink? I dare say there's not a WR corps in the league that plays more poorly.
Don't get me wrong; I don't think we have anything but journeymen level QB's on this roster, who at their best are merely adequate.
That aside, Panty, weren't you hanging in there with JaMarcus for too long as well? I mean, it's okay for a fan to have some level of loyalty to his team and players. But I expect better from the owner and the supposed professional people he has working under him.
Panty, I don't get what you're saying. I'm not high on Campbell necessarily, but he had guys in his face the entire game. If the WR's are running their routes more sharply, and he they understand how to misdirect a defender, they then get enough separation to receiver the ball. Our WR's are terrible at getting open. I just don't understand how you could even argue that this is not the case, so I'm sure sure we can come to any agreement here.
Being open for a millisecond is not good enough, especially given that we're running a pretty unsophisticated offense that doesn't rely as much on timing routes and odd stunts.
So much for a statement game.
Unfortunately, the only statement this makes is that the Raiders should have picked Crabtree.....or Maclin....or a half dozen other WRs on the board at the time.
Should have figured he's basically catch the game winning TD.
The other statement this makes is that Jason Campbell is no Jim Plunkett. Heck, he's not even an Alex Smith.
Then again, what do I know, I just watch the games on TV (and record them and watch the short cuts version, etc) and don't listen to them on the radio.
As sure as the Raiders continue to field the worst WR corp in football there will always be fans that make excuses.
Like we didn't see DHB outright drop a critical 3rd down pass, or we didn't see Ford have another would be 1st down bounce off his chest into the hands of a defender.
For some reason, despite the constant pressure, the screen pass has completely disappeared from the playbook.
That game was a flashback to 2006, with a sprinkle of JaMarcus Russell.
It's truly amazing that the Raiders demonstrated, if only for a day, they have made zero progress through eight years of misery.

We all see things according to our own perceptions which are usually based upon our experience in life...Me I'm "60" and been watching Raider football sense "62"...I also played "HB"/"CB" back in "HS" and after when I tried to make it with a smi-pro team in Tacoma where I grew up as a "CB"...The Tacoma Tyes...
If you watch a well executed passing attack the "QB" knows where his "WR"s/"TE"s/"RB"s are suppose to be and he gets the ball out early enough for them to make a play without giving it up to the "DB"s/"LB"s in coverage...Back when Timmy Brown played that's what you would have seen allot of...Not going to an open area and waiting for the ball like I'm seeing today...
So the "WR"s found the dead areas in the zone but the "QB" couldn't read/react to them in time to give then a chance to make the play...He was consistently late with the ball and the "DB"s were making plays on the ball...
Separation is much easier in the zone...But the timing has to be there and the communication between "QB"-n-"WR" to make it work...We don't have that today...Even on the long ball to Murphy where he drew the flag...It was late and under-thrown...That should have been a "TD"...
So you see this as a "WR" failure while I see it as a "QB" breakdown...It takes both to make the play...
And yes I did stick with "JePurple" too long...I'm very consistent...I pimped him to be drafted just like I pimped "D-Mac" so I own what I do...Not like some who switch with whatever is popular at the time...In my day we called that "Commitment"...I didn't pimp "DHB" in the least but now that he's on my team he gets my support and I'm pulling for him...
I will be critical of the "QB"/"OC" before the "WR"s simply because their job is allot easier...Get to the open area in a zone or the area where the rout is designed to end up and look for the ball...Adjust your routs to what the "D" is doing inline with what the "QB" should also see...Catch the damn ball or keep it from being intercepted...
There are 2-3 on any given play in pattern...It's the "QB" who needs to read-n-react and get them the ball in time to make a play...It's the "OC" who needs to design and call the right plays for his talent on that field...So I say were failing at the "QB"/"OC" positions rather than the "WR"s...
Drops are the "WR"s fault if no contact is made and the ball is on time on target...Or if the "WR" runs the wrong rout and the ball is where it should have been...

You have me beat. I only made it as far as high school football (fullback and DB) and my body was done after that.
Anyway, I see where your coming from; but, I never would make the case that out offensive inconsistencies are due entirely to the WR's at the exclusion of the QB. No, Campbell is definitely not known for having a quick release. At the same time, outside of the world of Raider Nation, no one is crediting our WR group as being a group of guys who know how to get open. Works both ways. But I see nothing about H-bey that make me think of him as a starting-level receiver in the NFL. The decoy bit doesn't work for me, especially given that he runs a lot of sideline routes during the course of the game. Moreover, the guy can't catch with his hands; instead, he catches with his body. That's a terrible sign. Sure, we can keep the guy, but let's get someone in there who has instincts for football, not a track guy who barely even got open in college.

I'm here in USAirSpace now so I listen to the radio and watch the network...That gives two slightly different perspectives of the game...Than I tune into a net delayed Play-by-Play from NFL-Network and see it again with a few new slides and their notes...

Not very far...I tried out but didn't make the smi-pro roster so enlisted in the Navy instead...I was in BootCamp during the "69" season down here in "SD"...I played every chance I got after that in the service or local fields where we had sota organized teams but never got to do what I dreamed of doing...By the time I made it to college at USU in "79" I was already banged up and couldn't be a walk-on...

Quite frankly, the entire offense looked mediocre to me. Why are the WRs absolved for their lack of production? The Niners' QB is horrible, but he AND his receivers were able to produce some big plays that changed the game. I don't understand this fascination for defending DHB for his lack of production. I'm not going to defend anyone on the offense today. It was abysmal on all fronts. We lost to an 0-5 sad sack of a team and couldn't even score a touchdown.

What a depressing game. Boring and depressing. I can't remember the last time I had fun watching a Raider's game.
I guess I can understand the conservative play calling at the beginning of the game with the rain. But it cleared up by the second half.
I don't understand how Miller didn't get any touches until 10 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. He's our best offensive player. You have to get the ball into his hands.
I can't decide if it's Hue Jackson's or Campbell's fault that when the Raiders' get into the Redzone they cannot get into the endzone.
By the way, how was that NOT a safety?
Anyway, Bush had 20 touches for 47 yards. Pathetic doesn't begin to describe how horrible that is. Our WR's had longs of 4 yards and 8 with 4 touches total.
After the first two drives the Raiders were -10 yards part way into the 4th quarter. Hey, Hue I don't know, maybe it's time to try something different.
I'm not quite ready to write this season off, we are 1-0 in the division after all. But I have to admit I'm close. Deja vu all over again.
Sigh.
I didn't say anything was on anyone. I said it was a failure across the board, and that I'm not going to defend lack of production from our QB, RBs or WRs, including the two WRs who dropped catchable balls during our final drive to kill our chances.
I have no special affection for or antagonism toward DHB. He's just another player who's not producing as far as I'm concerned. Give him a different number and a different name and a different draft slot, and I still see a player who doesn't produce like a starter. I won't defend it.
Both my college team (USF Bulls) and pro team (Oakland Raiders) failed to get into the endzone this weekend in their respective games. Yeah it was a great weekend of football for the Sarasota Raider lol.

you guys didnt hear Rich Gannon and his commentaries, he made it clear right off the get go that the secondary was playing lousy and the niners were going to start throwing deep and the raiders were going to be burned on the deep pass, he also said that our LINES sucked and proved us right.
My surprise was when "JustCrap" pulled up lame in the 4th and no switch was made...I was hollering at the TV let's see Boller but nothing happened...
That was the third last possession...I think it was 2nd dn and we were deep...Why the hell was "JustCrap" left in there to screw it up and than back two more times to finish us...Makes NO sense to me...He was lame with a knee for gad sakes!!!...

TOO FUNNY. Waste, you are the dumbest shit ever. WR is tougher to play than QB? Get lost, you really take the cake. OC makes the plays and manuevers for ALL THE PLAYERS, a QB has to know where all the players go on any given play. A WR just has to run a route or block a corner. If they play a certain defense, he adjusts his route accordingly. In no possible scenario could a WR's job be harder to execute, gimme my cake back you dumbshit.

I think QB and CB's are the toughest positions when it comes to the weight of responsibility laid on their shoulders. Generally, when either position lapses, no matter that their OL/DL might not be performing up to standards, they get the blame for a loss.
That said, WR is one of the more technically difficult positions to play IMO. Not only that, it requires an intense amount of concentration and conditioning. Playing WR in the NFL is nothing like having your buddy toss you the ball in a scrimmage game; that fer sure.

All positions are hard to play, that's why there is only an elite few who can do it. Wr, if you have the physical gifts, isn't even close to a QB in difficulty. QB, mentally, has to know EVERY POSITION, Offense and defense, to even have a sniff of being good. Wr. lines up, one on one and recognizes the Defense and adjusts. Runs his route and gets the ball thrown his way 5-10 per/gm avg. Rest of the time he is wrestling a DB. if you are Physically gifted, the Position is not one of the toughest.
