Rams Pregame Thread

The Rams are fielding a rookie quarterback and have lost 26 of their last 27 games. This is our home opener. Team pride is on the line. And the season may be on the line as well.

So, in other words, we'll be 1-1 by late Sunday afternoon. Time to turn the tide.

In all my years of following professional football, I don't ever recall a 2nd game in a long season being so critical.

Win, go 1-1, and get things back on track.

Lose, go 0-2, and it is "oh $hit, here we FN go again!"

What is unacceptable to me is a team that comes out flat. Effort, motivation, and preparation are all in your own control.

The winning team is the aggressor, the one that plays with energy and passion ... cut it loose Raiders and the win will follow.

Raiders 16 - Rams 10

CJ,

If the Raiders only win by 16-10, I still don't think i'd feel very good about the season.

This is a statement game.

Cable has said the entire team is "pissed off" over last weeks opening dud.

The Rams are bad, and this is the Raiders home opener.

We need to see at least, 31-17 to make a statement.

Why do I have a feeling that tomorrow's game is going to mirror that ugly week 2 win over the Chiefs last season?

Well I already posted my official prediction on the last thread so here it is again...Why change anything...

Final Score 12-19...

Our "D" will score in this one twice...1st off an "Int" and 2nd with the "S" after "ST"s pins them deep against their own goal.....So 9 points are accumulated as a result of our "D"s much improved play....

The "O" will struggle at times but move the ball well on the ground finding the end zone once and setting our "ST"s up for the goal posts too so accounting for 10 pts....

We will have one long “TD” pass called back by the damn "Zebra"s on some “BS” holding call or Offensive-Pass-Interference because our "WR" played for the ball…That one would have been "DHB"s….Our drive will stall and we punt…

Meanwhile the "Lamb"s will move the ball well on the ground and threw the air but get stuffed in the RedZone so held to 4 "FG"s with a 5th one blocked/missed...

See...Bet ya all thought I was predicting a Raider loss when ya saw 12-19 but the visitor's score gets posted 1st and home team 2nd....

"Lamb"s @ Raiders 12-19 as they lose....

Raiders.......vs.........."Lamb"s
"O"..#22.................."D"..#27
Pass #25..................Pass #26
Rush #5 Tie -w- "KC"......Rush #19

"D"..#21.................."O"..#14
Pass #5...................Pass #10
Rush #31..................Rush #24

PantyRaider...How Can I Ever Forget Those Damn "Zebra"s!!!!/_

Raider00...

To a point I agree but at the same time have to be a little more realistic...

This team is still young and getting accustomed to each other and the "Lamb"s showed the ability to move the ball last week...They just lose their hair in the process and can't score...

I'm looking for the type of overall "D" performance that we saw in the preseason...We did get hurt by the run but stopped it short of the goal line and held opponents to "FG"s instead of "TD"s which is what we failed to do last week on both accounts...That in it self will be encouraging to me...I also look for 2 picks against that rookie "QB" and a score off one...Mediocre overall stats put up by their team...

Rush-120 yds....
Pass-250 yds....

Accounting for 5 60yd drives to attempted "FG"s...

The Raiders "O"...

This one is where we run the ball and dump-off very well but stall...2 long drives resulting in a "TD" early with our 1st possession and a "FG" in the second half...Other times we get close but turn the ball over on downs when we should have just kicked the "FG"...The other long "TD" drive is taken away by a Bogas penalty....

So the stats look good but the result is minimal on the score board...Only 10pts by our "O"...But we look fairly good doing it so draw encouragement that this team is developing well and when the play-caller gets his head out of his ass and just takes the "FG"s while available we can score better...

Thus "Some" come away with continued issues to cry about while the rest of us are encouraged by the overall results/appearance as we look forward to the "RedBird"s...

PantyRaider...Win But Don't Annihilate!!!/_

NO "Statement" game this week!!!...

True ... I won't either but what I want (a dominating, blowout victory statement game) and what I think (our OLine is in shambles and WR's non-existent) are 2 entirely different things.

Things will get very ugly across the Nation if the Raiders lose today's game.

It's a shame it has come down to this so early (i.e., the second game of the season being so critical), but that's what happens when you don't show up for the first game.

We will probably have a backup LG, a rookie C in his second game, and limited play from Richard Seymour.

Some here argued that Seymour's absence late in pre-season games allowed teams to rack up rushing yards. Those people should be particularly concerned today if Seymour is out. IMO, there are many other factors that drive our poor run D.

Big day for the WRs, to break their "collective invisibility". We can't keep blaming their performance on Russell (or can we?).

And will the real Darren McFadden please stand up? Personally, I think we saw the real RunDMc last week, so hopefully he can keep it going.

GO RAIDERS!!

Damn…All that cash at the expense of the fans but they would all slap us in the face and walk/lock out…

Put The “BillBoards” Back Up Across This Nation We Need To Start Fighting NOW!!!!/_

“BillBoards” should advertise a “Million Man March” of the fans in our team colors showing solidarity against any plans the NFL-n-NFLPA may have of disrupting our sport…Stating that we will totally boycott any and all replacement teams and continue such actions against the NFL even after the teams retake the field if our season is disrupted…

Pre-Posting of the warning via the Web now to unify the fans and get that message out to the networks/advertisers who pay the bills off our backs…

In their interest it saves jobs and in ours it preserves the game we all treasure….

Many others also gain from this venue such as stadium workers in security/concessions/parking as well as local transportation, hotels, restaurants-n-bars, even the Casinos…So I say we start a campaign now that gets the word out that we’re just not going to stand for this crap again Baby!!!…Then we give others an opportunity/invitation to join with the fans in their protest of what just ain’t right for anyone except a few selfish few….

Hell…Write a song/poem…Set up a BillBoard…Adds in local “Rags”…Sports Talk Radio…What ever venue is available but we should start now while the players and owners are getting prepped expecting we will just sign off on whatever they decide…

Maybe a strong voice now can curb this crap before it gains full force…

Indianapolis, Dallas, New Orleans and Philadelphia have all voted unanimously to decertify the union. He said union leaders were still collecting voting cards from other teams.
Players have said they won’t take anything that amounts to a pay cut. Smith has been warning players since he took office in early 2009 to put aside money in case of a work stoppage.
-——————————————————————————————————
If these owners and these players let it degenerate to the point of a “Lock-Out” in the face of all the fans than they are even stupider than I would have deemed possible….It’s enough that the stupidity in “SD” continues with their 2 “PB” lock-out contract disputes but this would be devastating to all…

$88,375,000 per owner per yr….Now I see why their not happy with such meager profits minus their own stupidity in the spending department…

Kudos to Cable (or whomever) for pulling Veldheer from center and Campbell from QB. Those moves seemed obvious from here, but apparently he needed another half of football to see it.

Still, a sloppy first half. DHB dropped a catchable ball early, then had the game of his career, even putting on a move or two for YAC.

McFadden is 2 for 2 this year.

Who plays QB next week????

It better be Gradkowksi if the Raiders want to keep playing competitive football.

I'm sorry, but Campbell led a decent team last year to a 4-12 record. I just don't see him doing any better for the Raiders... not with this O-line.

Here are the stats that stand out to me...

Third Down Efficiency "D" Allowed
2/10 - 20%
Third Down Efficiency "O" Gained
7/17 - 41%

Total Rushing Plays Rams 21
Net Yards Rushing 75
Average Gain per Rushing Play 3.6

Total Rushing Plays Raiders 40
Net Yards Rushing 173
Average Gain per Rushing Play 4.3

Our "D" held a very good "RB" to less than a 4yd ave and only 75 total yds...That was a damn good showing while our "O" ran that ball damn well and should even be better when Bush returns healthy -n- "D-Mac" can spend more of his time in the passing game and running outside...We wore their "DL" down with the running game...

Our "OL" is a mess but should improve as the rookies get more playing time..."Stupid Mario" is a "Wash-Out" at "LT".....Whether he could play another position I'm not sure but I would take my chances with "Vald" in there this season at "LT"...

"GradSki" has earned the starting position and "JC" can play back-up in case he gets injured...

Just got back from watching the game live at my local watering hole ...

A few points:

It is crystal clear that the team's best chance to win is with Ski.

Cable going to the hook this early in the season is because he realized (1) Campbell was struggling (2)Ski saved his job last year (3) his job was in the balance.

** Kudos to Cable for making this bold, decisive, and effective move to change QBs.

This team had to get a few first downs at the very end of the game to save the win ... yes a win but not a convincing win.

McFadden seems to be on track to be a dependable, positive contributor to our offense.

Hanging on to win 16-14 vs. a team that won 2 games last year is nothing to gloat about but I do feel that with Ski at the helm, the team has a fighting chance each week.

"CJ"...

Had "GradSki" played last week and also the 1st half we might have had a different outcome...That whole damn team came alive when they knew there was a fighting chance with him in the game...

Tenn looks very beatable after what Pitts did this week against them...Not that we're Pitts but we could have played much better than we did...

We have one more tune-up contest before we get to the meat of the schedule...The "RedBirds" are a mess and we should take advantage of the fact they can't stop the run and are prone to the Int...

Week 4 is when it gets tough with Houston-n-"SD" back to back at home...

Here is an early report-card post...He forgot to badmouth "Jano" for the miss and "JC" for the fumbles...

Report Card

Pass Offense: "D+" -- Jason Campbell started the game and he was shaky. The offensive line, of course, was in flux. Everything changed in the second half, though, behind Bruce Gradkowski. The play calling was better, the offensive line looked better and the wide receivers (Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey) were a lot more involved in the passing attack. Campbell and Gradkowski combined to complete just 51 percent of their passes with an interception each.

Rush Offense: "A-" -- Darren McFadden anchored the ground attack today and was even more effective in the second half when the Raiders established a passing attack. The only thing that didn't materialize was a rushing touchdown, but that's okay when you get the win.

Pass Defense: "B+" -- Sam Bradford felt pressure and was sacked three times including getting intercepted once. He was moderately effective in terms of the completion percentage and did find Mark Clayton for a few touchdowns. Overall, though, the Raiders did a really good job with the pass defense.

Rush Defense: "A" -- Steven Jackson rushed for just eight yards in the second half and the Raiders really bottled up the St. Louis run game overall the same way they bottled up Titans running back Chris Johnson last week. The difference was that Jackson didn't break a 75-yard run for six points.

Special Teams: "B+" -- The tackling on special teams was really nice. As for the kicking game, Lechler only averaged 43 yards per punt and Janikowski's was 3-for-4. Higgins had a lovely 53-yard return off the first punt although it resulted in zero points. Overall, it was a pretty good performance all things considered.
