Hold The Mustard - Jets Pregame Take

The last time the Jets visited Oakland, Mark Sanchez wolfed a hot dog on the sideline...during the game. How he actually worked up an appetite while breezing to a 38-0 victory is beyond me.

So here we are, with the Jets set to land in Oakland once again, and we are now faced with our second must-win game of this young season.

Now, it's possible that the Raiders could beat the Patriots next week. But let's just say that I wouldn't bet the house on it.

In other words, if the Raiders don't beat the Jets, they'll be staring down the very real possibility of a 1-3 record for the first quarter of the season. No bueno.

The only way this is going to work is if the defense erases all memory of last week's debacle in Buffalo. It's doubtful that Campbell and Co. are going to go hog wild against New York like they did last week.

No, this is one for the trenches. No flashbacks of Sanchez hot-dogging it or LT flying overhead for another touchdown in a new uniform. This is the game where the Raiders defense gets to save the season.

Is that an overstatement? Perhaps. But a 1-2 start with two really tough games right afterward is not exactly the yellow brick road to the playoffs. So let's go, Raiders Defense, step it up and serve those loudmouth Jets fans a little crow instead of another hot dog.

A critical "bounce-back" game, no doubt.

My keys to a "W" aren't exactly revelations. Nevertheless ...

(1) The Raiders offense needs to run to daylight. An effective and persistent run game controls the clock, keeps the D rested, and keeps the team on schedule with down and distance. The last thing our offense needs are 3rd and longs with a blitzing Jets D.

(2) Exploit a rookie center and collapse the pocket disallowing Sanchez space to step into his throws. Kelly & Seymour need to have MONSTER games and put Sanchez on his back like a $2 whore.

(3) Make the Jets 1 dimensional by shutting down the run. When the Raiders defense puts the Jets in difficult 3rd down situations, it is imperative that get aggressive and create sack, hurries, and turnover opportunities.

(4) The D needs to PROVE tomorrow that they can stop the spread offense after the Bills gave them the blueprint.

(5) D needs to play their assignments and tackle well. McClain must play much better than he did last week. Lots of tweeting going on among NFL scouts about him being close to a bust, or at least not going to be an elite MLB.

I doubt we will see the Jets be able run the "Spread"...They lack the "WR"s and Sanchez is a different style "QB"...

The one thing from last weeks game that translates well to this game is the use of their "TE"s short -n- over the middle...Also possible dump-off game short to their "RB"s or screens and other very quick developing plays...They will want to keep our pass rush off their "QB"s ass....Other than that you should expect the Jets to stay very conservative while relying on their "D" to do the damage...

We will see a different game if the Raiders get up on top and the Jets have to play from behind...

with our O clickin this will be a great measuring stick to face a top defense.

a couple of rooks in the ST game is exciting and scarey at the same time. lets pop one Moore, Jones.

ah the defense, time to pin the ears back and get after "dirty sanchez". put him on his head King Richard!!! i expect Kelly to have a big game with the double teams going toward Big Dick, simply because of their center situation.

i would love to see us pop the top off of their D, then smash them between the tackles the rest of the day.

This is a must win game. Pure and simple. Even a handful of the so called experts on ESPN picked us to win. And with Mangold out. This is a game set for us to win. If we cannot pull it out or worse if we go out and lay an egg, consider 2011 done.

This is a great chance for the Raiders to prove they can hang with the big boys.

Sooner or later, Raiders have to show they are for real.

I'm tired of hearing how Raiders, "learned a lesson from losing game".

Raiders have lost so much the last 9 years. havn't they learned all lessons yet ?

So hell yeah, beat the Jets today.
And what the hell, beat the Pats next week too.

Stop playing the victim. Stop "learning lessons" from losing, and start teaching the other team a thing or two.

How you like that ??

Darren McFadden is PRO BOWL, this Offense is very good. Can't believe the Jets wasted Revis on DHB all game, the Raiders will take that trade off every time. Darius, excellent pick in the 4th round, but damn, when will the Raiders STOP PLAYING THAT PREVENT shit with a lead? I remember cursing it when Art Shell was in his first stint as HC. Almost bit them today, but, the Offense came out and closed the show with Jano kicking off the dirt = EXCELLENT.

I am warming to this team, the Offense looks very potent. Only the 3rd game but this Offense can over come the Defense and outscore other teams. Last time the Raiders had this kind of Offense was the last time they went to the Bowl.

Bring on the 'pretty boy' Brady, the O can outscore them just as the Bills did...the west is there for the taking if the Raiders can continue to play at this level.

Tremendous win. Chekwa is better than Johnson. Raiders played a lot of zone again today and made adjustments in the 2nd half. It was good to see. Jano is money. Mcfadden and Moore are stars. Campbell was very solid.

It's gonna be a good week.

The offensive firepower is really purring. The Double D’s are just awesome (D-Mac & Denarius Moore). I was concerned this year by the O-Lines ability to play well together and J. Campbell’s Q-Backing skills; along with the HC changing. But Hue is really making me a believer and the 53 men on this football team are acting and playing like men.

The Defensive side of the ball needs to get more aggressive. Scratching my head with Pre-Vent D....Is Al calling those D schemes or what? LOL

I refused to comment on last week’s very winnable game in Buffalo. 3-0 is what we all would have liked to seen.

Next week it’s the New England Cheaters and their QB SI model T. Brady. Time to bring the pain!!!!!!

As I said last week I'm not at all down on our "O" and it was proven why this week when Buffalo spotted "NE" 21 points and came back to beat them in the same fashion as they did to us...Not because of just such bad "D" but because sometimes when a team gets hot there's just no stopping them...

Just like the Jets trying to stop us...Is their "D" that sick or are we just that strong???

sloppy defensive play in the first half is what made this game close. stanford routte made 3 critical holding penalties on 3rd down that gave the jets a first, and kept the drive alive.
if the raiders played d in the first half like they did in the 2nd, it's 34-7, or more.
we've got the pissed off patriots this next weekend, and don't think for a minute that the patsies are going to have a laxidazical, self-pity attitude. brady is going to want to make a statement, and they play a spread offense like buffalo does.
we need to play defense the whole game the way we played the 2nd half; i think we'll see jarvis moss on the field more next week. i welcome that because he creates tremendous pressure.
also we have to convert 3rd downs. campbell had the ball there on the majority of them, but the wrs dropped them.
we have to improve on this game if we are going to beat the patsies.

routt and johnson will continue to be a liability in the secondary. YES, i understand routt has made improvements on his coverage but DAMMIT! his penalties are killinus! johnson just plain sucks. except for that touchdown, the rookie chekwa did good.

what the hell is wrong with our supposed superstar middle linebacker?

campbell was steady, dmac is our rock. this kid moore is gonna be a star. just think of what our offense will be when boss gets more involved, when ford comes back, when taiwan gets more involved. along with reese, dmac, hagan. and i didn't even mention how well the offensive line is playing. wow, the potential as this offense grows!
