Chiefs Gameday Thread

Confession: If the Raiders' secondary doesn't get carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey today, I'll consider it a miracle. Derek Carr needs to bring it today. You never know! GO RAIDERS!

Holy CRAP! CARR IS ON FIRE!!! Not going to lose this game because of him. Defense has started 2nd half by stopping Mahomes. Gotta open the playbook here Gruden. Offense seems to have stalled for us as well. Gruden has to give it to Carr, and let him drive to the victory! JUST WIN, BABY!

The pursuit, the aggressiveness, the BELIEF! Wow, Carr did bring it, and the miracle happened. First time since 2000 to put up 40+ on the Chiefs, all kinds of streaks snapped. Just wow!

That was a team effort led by Carr. Raiders threw the ball down field and Gruden called ballsy 4th down plays. The rest is history.

That was a breakthrough game for the Raiders. Exercised lots of demons today.

The next two weeks just got a lot better.

Congrats!

This game speaks to what I have been saying about opening it up. It was a microcosm of why the Raiders had so much success in 2016. Play more aggressively and take chances when presented with reasonable opportunities. Even the defense let loose more. According to Crosby, the halftime adjustments on defense were premeditated. They wanted to show the Chiefs something different. Looks like they played more press. The secondary really stepped up.

100% effort cashed in with 100% return on investment.

I can’t remember the last time our D just pinned their ears back and went after every play. Unbelievable performance. The shock of KC fans must be immobilizing! And the sneak in 4th to set up victory formation?! Pure gold.

The Raiders have an elite offense when Trent Brown is in the lineup. Getting Incognito back and keeping Ruggs healthy will take it even higher. Oh yeah Gruden can coach with the best of them

Feeling good... borderline giddy after that win.

Gruden and Guenther both stepped up. We knew the offense had the fire power but the defense really came to life in the 2nd half.

Carr was channeling his 2016 self on Sunday. He had two bad throws... INT and the ball he pushed passed Richard when he was scrambling under pressure. Otherwise, Carr was lights out. Amazingly, he was the better QB on the field. Who would have guessed that?

Speaking of lights out, I stand behind my previous comment that Agholor is the surprise player so far. He should get more targets. He looks like Crabtree out there with his #15 jersey.

Ruggs is 3-0 as a pro. Well, Raiders are 3-0 when he plays. While the long TD was serious flash, the contested catch was more challenging. He does both!

With 3rd and Renfrow, Waller and Jacobs, Raiders should lead the NFL in 3rd down conversions.

Report on Nick Kwiatkoski was that he's a steady and reliable LB. He QBs the defense, plays the run well and is probably our best coverage LB. He's better than advertised.

Littleton was signed to cover TEs and backs, but he's been less than advertised and he got schooled by Travis Kelce.

With Collins out, Raiders D-line was better. That shouldn't speak well for Collins return, i.e., as starter.

Raiders secondary was responsible for coverage pressure and sacks. Mullen is a star, and Heath looked like the center fielder we wanted Harris to be... but isn't.

Abrams is terrorizing opposing WRs and backs. Hope he stays healthy. He looks too aggressive sometimes.

Beating KC going into a bye was just what the doctor ordered. Two weeks of bliss.

Don't forget Clelin Ferrell. He was A BEAST as well. Though he doesn't have a sack on the season, he should have several assists because he was consistently pressuring Mahomes, and pushing him to Crosby. Ferrell's pressure led to Jeff Heath's Interception. Ferrell played lights out, and gave Crosby a couple HUGE sacks.

Agreed. If Ferrell continues to play at that level, sacks will come for him.

Apparently, Vickers and Smith also played big roles in the interior D-line, due to injuries to Collins and Hurst. These two guys are practically heroes from the bottom of the Raiders depth chart (one is a practice squad player allowed to play due to covid rules modifications).

In the past I have given Gruden and Co credit for mostly ignoring salaries and draft status when making their rosters. Hopefully, Gruden and Guenther will take a hard look at how these two can continue to contribute. IMO, their emergence in the 2nd half of Sunday's game was key to the Raiders tightening the screws on D. I'm sure I'll re-watch the game and get a better look.

From PFT Power Ratings:

"4. Chiefs (previously No. 1; 4-1): They’re vulnerable when playing opponents that don’t have their full attention."

Geez! No disrespect to the Raiders in that statement... that's BS.

As improbable as it might have been, Chiefs were out-coached and outplayed. No cause for PFT to make excuses.

Most importantly, the Raiders came to win! Again, the team rallied behind Derek's intensity that he has brought the last 4 weeks prior to this game and dominated all aspects. The Saints win was big, but it was a one-sided victory because the defense tried to give it away several times. This is a win the WHOLE team can build on, and I hope they come every week with this intensity!
You're right too, NY, about Smith and Vickers. Hankins played some too; but Collins and Hurst were not cutting it. These two guys stepped up and made the most of their opportunities. It is Tuesday, and my excitement is still off the charts. It will carry me through the bye week hopefully; but I expect the Raiders to have a similar game plan against the Bucs and Brady; with the exception that we won't have to have a "spy" on Brady.
We had the Chiefs full attention on Sunday; they were outplayed, out-classed, and out coached. They are not as dominate as they think they are, period. Just Keep Winning, BABY!

Still riding the wave of a huge upset win in KC, and looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Watched the KC game again and made a few minor (meaningless) observations.

Carr missed a wide open Gafford in the end zone right before they settled for a FG to start the game. Carr easily made up for that with an outstanding game overall.

Mahomes had two TD passes called back on penalty, including a long bomb to Hill. Despite this loss, Chiefs are still the most prolific offense in the NFL. Raiders can expect a war in the rematch in Vegas.

Vickers provided some much needed energy in the middle of the Raiders D-line. He wasn't perfect but he was in the Chiefs backfield quite often. Ferrell stepped up like he did late last year, but can he keep it going? Chiefs were double-teaming him at times to slow him down.

Looking ahead, Raiders have the easiest strength of schedule remaining. I don't think we should place any stock in this stat but it's interesting to note. Some of the teams remaining on the Raiders schedule are ones that always give them trouble, e.g., Chargers, Broncos, and others include teams that have destroyed the Raiders in recent past, e.g., the Jets! Here's the top-10 (easiest) strength of schedule.

1. Raiders (Opponents have a .377 combined winning percentage)
2. Cowboys (.380)
3. Chiefs (.396)
4. Chargers (.404)
5. Washington (.415)
6. Saints (.417)
7. Buccaneers (.434)
8. Patriots (.441)
9. Dolphins (.443)
10. Seahawks (.445)

Raiders have already lost to the Pats, so they loose any tiebreaker. Also, Dolphins are playing well and the Chargers, with their outstanding rookie QB, look to at least be spoilers... if not more. It's still very early.

Enjoy your weekend!

Ouch! The Bucs destroyed Green Bay. They held Aaron Rodgers in check. No small feat. Needless to say, Raiders will need to bring the same intensity as last week.

IMO, Carr should be prepared for quick strike slants, timing passes and screens.

It might come down to which defense shows up. The one that played played in the first half in KC... or the one that played in the second half. Raiders D was better when they pinned their ears back on the line and played more press coverage.

WOW! Just read Mario Henderson passed away. Not to mention Trent Brown on COVID list, and 5 other O-Lineman sent home due to contact with Brown.

Tough week coming off a bye. Not sure what to make of it. Are the Raiders too lax with their covid policies? Seems the NFL thinks so, as the event prompted a league-wide memo.

The Raiders now find themselves at a huge disadvantage coming out of a bye week, off a huge win in KC. Whatever momentum they had is now deflated, as we wait to see if they can even field an offensive line.

The game was flexed out of prime time and is being pushed to completion regardless of the Raiders circumstance, e.g., the fact the O-line did not practice this week.

Best case, we will be without Brown and Abrams, arguably, the Raiders best players on each side of the ball.

Home field doesn't help much, since their are no fans allowed in the stadium.

Assuming the game is played, it could get really ugly for the Raiders. They will need to channel some of the emotion and determination they had in KC. Hopefully, Gruden can turn those dials and make it happen.

PS Bucs signed Antonio Brown. Any team in their right mind who saw what Brown did to the Steelers, Raiders and Pats would no way sign him. Talk about desperation.

The Raiders will be without Trent Brown and Abrams tomorrow. The signing of AB in Tampa is all Tom Brady. Let them have that cancer, he will tear that team apart along with Brady's legacy. I wish them the worst of luck.
Defensive Backs need to be at the line, punching Tampa's WRs off the LoS, and prevent Tom from making quick passes. D-Line needs to play like they did against the Chiefs. Derek Carr has a personal vendetta in this game with Bruce Arians; who has been one of the most vocal critics of DC. Time to light it up tomorrow. I predict the Raiders will win and be 4-2 after tomorrow. JUST WIN, BABY!

Zinc helps against viruses, colds and things like them; A doctor claimed it may help or maybe stop Coronavirus. He said Zinc goes into the body and tries to get the virus out of the body.

A Humidifier may help keep the virus from getting powerful to make other diseases make people sick (colds, flu) and keep the disease under control in the home. You need a good one, something that may cost a little $25-$100 dollars but it will help keep the virus from growing and making people in the home get infected or get the actual disease.

This guy can't get a tryout!?

Tyre Coleman, a guy who didn't get a chance to play-because NO team even gave him a tryout, could be one of the best players in football history!

Hobart William Smith Colleges 2011-'15
(may have scrimmaged in '16 at combine or college team)

last played 1/'15-3/15 all-star games (Dream Bowl '15)

5 time Defensive player of the year (4 in College and 1 in high school).

3 time 1st team All-American (many All-American awards)

Patriot League rookie of the year and All-rookie team as a freshman in '11

14 time defensive player of the week

8 awards

team MVP 1, maybe more

6'1" 250 lbs.

51 career sacks

94.5 tfl

224 career tackles

13 forced fum.

46 career games

Even though this was a div.-III school that shouldn't have kept teams from asking about him. But they didn't-that's a big fall in the competition but still it seems like no team wanted to look at him.

Graduated from HWS and seems to be a positive guy.

Its been 5 years since he graduated from school BUT, i feel if you aren't too old its' not too late for stars (he may be that special kind of athlete that can show college star they saw as no good for pros may have left that coaches can work into big payoff). Can you look up this guy's career?

Aldon Smith made comeback after 5 years. 49ers' de Jeff Stover was working a job but played on their winning teams after being able to tryout,Rocky Blier made Steelers after coming from vietnam and Brian Banks missed playing for a college...only playing in his 20s', on a JC team, but he got tryouts with NFL teams later.

The Raiders need pass rushers and Coleman might help them.
