Loud and Proud

I’m hitting the road early this morning. I will hook up with Cousin of Raider Take in San Jose, and shortly thereafter we will fire up a righteous tailgate on the Coliseum asphalt. Beer and red meat are the breakfast of champions.

Mad Stork 83 wrote that he is flying in from New Jersey. AzRaider 63 wrote that he is flying in from Phoenix. CNY Raider fan is flying in from New York, courtesy of
Raider Nation Podcast’s free ticket contest for out-of-area fans. These are just a few examples of the Raider Nation converging, from near and afar, to pack the house and launch the Return to Glory.

With the losses of the Broncos and Chiefs yesterday, we are poised to seize first place in the AFC West. What better way to start off the season? We will be 60,000 strong tonight in Oakland, in addition to the tens of thousands of you around the country and the world, and we will do our part to make it happen.

I am grateful for the 144th Fighter Wing of the California Air National Guard, who will commemorate September 11, 2001 with a flyover by four F-16 Fighting Falcons. The things that make the Raider Nation great are also the things that make our nation great—unity, diversity, innovation, heritage, loyalty, dedication and a relentless ability to rally when the chips are down.

The chips have been down for the past three seasons, but today we begin anew. No one has jumped this pirate ship. We are all still here, loud and proud. And today we will be heard. Raiii-derrrs! Raiii-derrrs!

RIP to ALL 9-11 victims.

As for football this game sure takes on much more meaning now that Denver and KC got their asses handed to them. I hate to say this about a game so early on but this is a must win. A win will set up a nice run and then anything is possible!

Raidercoachella: Not to defend Gruden but the Bucs were in the playoffs last year. They lost to the Redskins. We definitely win SB37 if he hadn't left. That being said he is overrated.

Jordan is running like he has lead in his shoes. Maybe it's just the contrast from seeing LT run. Oh well, It's still early, so GO RAIDERS!!!

Is it too late to hope for Shell, Slater and Eatman to return as player-coaches for the 2nd half?

JORDAN SUCKS! We're supposed to be run-first team? What a joke. We need to get some fuckin' yards, NOW!

I almost wanted to throw-up! You cannot win a game if you cannot set the tempo with your offensive line being in snyc. I am just at a lost for words. Aaron Brooks cannot expect to drop back 7-8 steps and throw the ball with bitlzin' from both ends. The Raiders are just not in tune with eachother. You cannot let any team get the best of you. It seemed like the offense just gave up. There was, what 8 or 9 sacks!!!!!!! Totally un-called for. Beware my Raider brother's and sister's. We may have a long season if this is the type of play the offensive unit is displaying. I cannot stand the ESPN commentor's. Rivers is just so cool and clam. He is play as well as (Drew Brees). Come on? You have an offensive line that can protect the run, LT, and a pass rush on defense. Yeah, way to go Rivers. You were the missing link all long.

Bama 7
What'd we expect? Same old offense... doesn't matter the coach, the qb the left tackle... nothing
A very, very uncompetitive, awful game. How do you not throw deep once? No offensive design. Too predictable. Unwatchable.
We are the worst team in the league. Can shell show some emotion? Can jordan block?
Walsh is not nfl material. A very depressing team. Not worth watching anymore this season.
Have you ever watched a game so uncompetitive? It was like watching Florida vs. Louisanna Monroe.
We may win a few but WE WILL not beat the Chargers, Ravens, Broncos, Seahawks or anyone else with an agressive defense.
We suck. Way to go Walsh... you looked dynamic tonight! How can we turn the most exciting offensive player in the nfl into such a non factor??????

I see another losing season, and what will Al Davis do this time, hire John Madden. Come on !!!!!!!
I have watched the Raiders since I was 8 or 9. The Raiders where different in the 80's and early 90's. Art Shell, what now? Tom Walsh? Al Davis will bury this team along with the World's Greatest Fan's. It is just sad.

Well, the BOMB is back in Oakland, and they certainly BOMBED,on opening night.

Lamont Jordan has only one move, plowing straight into the line every time.

Courney Anderson Dudley dropped every pass thrown his way.

I could put together a better O-line off the waiver wire.

Oh well, things can only get better I guess.

wow. it started off with an absolutely beautiful night for football. unfortunately, the hawaiian dance troupe gave us better entertainment at halftime.

this game stunk! the o-line REALLY STUNK. gallery - what can you say? the entire line was AWFUL. luckily the defense started picking it up a bit in the 3rd but the offense still had their heads up their ass the entire game.

what puzzles me is they kept wanting to throw the ball long and at the same time expect this awful line to hold their blocks? why couldn't they throw shorter/medium length passes and give the line a chance? they had a little success throwing to moss on those quick sideline tosses.

ticky tack taunting call on moss and a non taunting call on their guy when he sacked brooks.

a couple who i sat next to in section 227 came all the way from washington dc, and a lady and her friend who are dispatchers for the san diego police dept. came all the way here to see this?

let's hope our o-line does better next week folks.

The better team won. I only hope next time we meet we're the better team. The O-Line was pathetic. Tom Walsh had nothing. Art Shell has proven he's good at getting angry which, combined with his Hall of Fame stature, has been enough for most of us to give him the benefit of any doubt. Well, I have doubts. I thought our defense looked pretty good once we stopped putting out 8 defensive backs. And, I don't want to hear anymore about a run-first emphasis so long as our starting RB is Jordan. I mean, he's not THAT bad, but he is slow.

Bottom line: any team that gets sacked 700 times in one game is gonna lose. So we lost.

How about Michael Huff on those blitzes? Not too shabby, eh?

Oh well, we're tied for 2nd place in the division.

GO RAIDERS!!!

Um, what the hell was that? Props to special teams and the defense, but ... is it OK to break out the B&B jokes again? We have 2 HOF offensive lineman as coaches, and this is what we get? Wow.

And Joey Pouter on the sidelines laughing his ass off ... Tim Brown's preseason complaints sound pretty prescient right about now.

OK, time to stop writing and quietly mourn.

If I may borrow from Shakespeare,

We consider it was excess of wine that set him on;
And on his more advice we pardon him

I'm ashamed of how we played, but I'm more ashamed of the comments today. How quickly we strike out at Shell, Walsh, Gallery and Davis. I felt like I was reading transcripts of an ESPN broadcast this morning.

Rome was not built in a day. And if I may once again borrow from my betters, Chesterton wrote, “Men did not love Rome because she was great. She was great because they had loved her.”

Do not let our pre-season hope turn to regular season despair.

A few things to consider:

1. The defense kept us in that game. Read that again. OUR defense kept us in a game. Three consecutive 3 & Outs against LT.
2. The Special Teams performed superbly. Two balls placed within their 5. Just yesterday the talking heads of Fox said that this was a dying art.
3. Shell benched the starting QB. OUR coach benched a started QB. As a resident of Dallas, TX who watched dutifully with his friends, Bledsoe deserved the same and took every snap on Sunday. More to the point, how many times did Collins deserve to sit down?
4. We could have avoided a shutout. Art let Walter take a big shot instead. Why? Because the elimination of a “statistical” shutout is not something to pursue. We were shut out. Hopefully that pain will force weakness from our team.
5. We are the Raider Nation. This is OUR team. Let the haters attack.

Freaking Pope,

You are ashamed of the comments???? Did you see the "game?" Gallery has sucked for three years now, not just one game. We didn't even compete, that is bad coaching. We were supposed to be tough and competitive if nothing else. The play calling sucked. What makes it worse is that we were all extremely optimistic for this season and especially the game. The Raiders didn't even show up!

Roy, please don't misunderstand me. All I'm saying is that we need to keep our chins up. We all woke up disappointed this morning after going to sleep frustrated and confused in the early hours of the morning.

It is a new day.

Sunday's destiny is still to be decided.

There was a comment earlier asking why the Raiders did not try any short passes since the O-line was swiss cheese.

The Raiders did try some short ones early in the game. They threw a few to Courtney Anderson Dudley, and he dropped them all. Can't dump one to Jordan, because he has bad hands. Looks to me like there is no short game to speak of.

I don't want to get to down this early. It's only one game, of a long season, but I just wasn't expecting such a nightmare of a game.

Seems to me that "Raider Ball" worked a lot better when guys like Marcus, Howie, Mad Stork, Branch, Millen, Casper/Chistensen/Chester, and Co. were on the field.

The Raiders have some good players, but they don't have any GREAT ones, outside of Moss, whose a head case. At least, that's how things looked from my living room.

Congrats DunderDolts for the @$$ whipping. At least the fans had energy, hell put pads on us and let us win. That was embarrassing. I don't know what was worse, the way we lost, or that Porter was laughing at his own teammates the whole game. It appears we should have kept Gabriel and traded Porter for a RB and some O-line. I'm pissed!

I HAVE SAID IT IN THE PAST AND I SHALL SAY IT ONCE AGAIN. AL DAVIS WILL BURY THE RAIDERS . THAT WAY NO ONE WILL EVER WANT TO COACH FOR US OR PLAY FOR US. AL DAVIS WILL SUFFER ANOTHER LOSING SEASON. ART SHELL WILL LEAVE THE COACHING SIDE LINES TO GO UP TO THE TOWER. RANDY MOSS WILL WANT A TRADE. TOM WALSH WILL BE ASKED TO MAKE BREAKFAST FOR AL DAVIS. BYE-BYE WALSH. AND WE WILL LOOK FOR A NEW COACH. SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER COACHED BEFORE. THAT WILL TAKE 3 MONTHS AFTER THE SEASON IS OVER WITH AND THEN DAVIS WILL HIRE JOHN SHOOP. WE WILL LOSE ANOTHER SEASON AND BY THAT TIME AL DAVIS WILL COACH THE TEAM IN 2008. HOW MUCH MORE WE WILL ALL BE ABLE TO HANDLE? WE MAY SAY WHAT WE LIKE BUT ALL RAIDER FANS ARE GETTING TIRED OF HAVE LOSING SEASONS. I AM AT A POINT WERE I WILL STOP WATCHING FOOTBALL ALL TOGETHER. THERE IS NO POINT. WITHOUT THE RAIDERS, FOOTBALL IS DEAD TO ME AND TO MANY OF YOU OUT THERE. I AM AT A LOST FOR WORDS AND AT A LOST OF HOPE. ALL RAIDER FANS CAN SAY WHAT THEY LIKE, BUT LET ME ASK YOU ALL THIS. YOU ARE HONESTLY, HONESTLY ASSURED THAT THE RAIDERS CAN BE RETURNED TO GLORY? WAITING FOR THE LINE, BROOKS, WALTER, MOSS. LAMONT, GALLERY, ETC. THEY JUST NEED TO .......... NEED TO WHAT? WE HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE 2002. IM DONE-

The Raiders "D" was terrible. The Chargers were in garbage time right at the second-half kickoff. The Ravens will not temper their offense and might go for 50 against the Raiders.

Oh, enough with all the tough-guy bullshit. I mean, what would some of you prefer to here: "commitment to excellence?" I'm tired of all the cheap slogans, I need to see something. I So far I've seen nothing.

Still, it's only the first week. Far too early to give up on the season. I just think our O-line and running game are too weak.

"DIE-HARD RAIDER FAN" What does it mean? These punk-asses need to learn what it is so that is what we need to do is teach it to them. I am an old-timer at "56" and a DIE-HARD sence I was "12" in "62" and I will not Die out if we have another bad season! This is not the first time and it will not be the last, but we will not be LOOOOOSERS for ever! We are winnnners! with 3/5 SBT's (SuperBoulVictories) in our "Pride Cabinate" and several WDC's (WesternDivisionChamps)hanging on our belts!

Now lets get on with busines! "Eat Crow" Sunday as we slaughter some "Black Buzzard of the North"

Raiderdecoachella, & Anon: We know that the fans love, & care about the Raiders. That is not the point. Some fans may complain, while others have blind faith, but every one in the Raider Nation cares about this team.

The problem is that the players don't seem to care. First game, at home, against the hated Chargers, and they come out sleepwalking, lifeless, and comatose.

Even you guys have to wonder why. Why do the players who play for the team we love, seem to not give a spit ? I wish I had the answer, but I do not.

OK, we are all a little edgy this year, no doubt! I just see the Commitment of the Raiders on the fans as much as on the players. I just hope the player are as edgy as we are and come out for blood on Sunday!

When I was watching the game I saw problems no doubt, but I also saw player trying hard, especially on the "D" and alot of frustration on the "O" but not like in the past where the players did not care at all. Maybe I am seeing things but I am not as down as some of you about this team. I can see some plusses with them that were not there last year.
