Browns Gameday Thread

My apologies for not doing a postgame take this week, lots of traveling, didn't even get to see the game but was able to tune into the radio call of the fourth quarter. It was an amazing victory, they kind of game the Raiders seem to have always lost lately, but this time they didn't. Hopefully some demons were buried.

Now onto the beatable Browns. Let's make this 2-1. GO RAIDERS!

I believe it will take another "empty bucket" effort to beat the Browns in Cleveland. They have a better defense than the Raiders, but so does every team in the NFL so far.

Interesting that the Browns would go with McCown after Manziel seemed to play well in a win last week. Have to believe a lot of their fans wanted Manziel. At some point, they need to see if he can be their long-term QB.

Key for the Raiders is to press coverage and get to McCown before he has time to find a receiver. This has been sorely lacking in the Raiders defense this year, despite having among the best pass rushing trio in the league. Something just doesn't add up; and I believe it falls on scheme, or at least coaching to make the necessary adjustments.

Raiders have had two weeks of game tape to review the same failures on defense.

Let's get it done today!

GO RAIDERS!

Two wins, both with game-saving INTs. Not good for the ole ticker.

Woodson comes through huge. That was getting ugly.

Oh, but it's taken way too long for the Raiders to get to this point so they aren't worth watching.

And the GM sucks, where are the players? JDR was a bad choice by MARK DAVIS, he should of let the GM hire the HC.

But luckily, the young players all fell into the GM's lap and he dumb lucked his way into these 2 wins.

I don't know about you guy(s), I think they should blow it up and hire a real GM, who's with me guys?

Regards, cheers, just prove it = fuck you

and all that other bullshit.

Carr, Murray, and Cooper -- 3 young cornerstone players. Got to give RM credit where credit is due. Nice job of Raiders handling success and expectations sprung from week 2. No reason this team can't challenge for playoffs in a conference with very few elite teams.

Playoffs? Let's see how they do in the division first. Though Carr's play so far gives a lot of hope for the future. Now if they had picked up a real cb in fa who knows.

Interviewed about Carr, Cooper said "he's a great player and a better person." I think that says a lot about why the Raiders have been able to win the last couple games. Players rally around this kid. He has a Gannon work ethic without the attitude. He's a true leader of this team. With Carr as leader, the team has no divisions.

Cowboys have one of the most stacked rosters in football and they are about to implode without their QB.

Say all you want about RM did this, or Mark Davis did that, it all centers around the QB. Carr is a tremendous competitor.

It's still too early to tell where Carr can take the Raiders, but the way McKenzie went through QBs his first three years, the Raiders are damn lucky Carr fell into their laps in the second round.

Nice win!

I might be getting way a head of myself but next weeks game against the Bears is a very winnable game. Anyone remember when the Raiders last won 3 games in a row?

Carr fell on their lap in the 2nd round?

Just like Murray, Carrie, Jackson, Penn, Crabtree, Thorpe, Mack, A Smith, Williams, Jelly, etc....they all just fell into the GM's lap...the GM dumb lucked his way, we are so lucky for dumb luck, no relation to Andrew.

Raiders played well today, with exception of the last Quarter. Woodson saved our game from another blown coverage by .... DJ HAYDEN!!! He left Benjamin wide open. Had Woodson not been there for the pick, tie ball game. Hayden cannot cover his shadow, let alone a WR. Also, the only reason the ball hung I the air is because pressure from Mack on McCown. Mack lit him up on that throw. Even with that broken coverage though, the Raiders did play some press coverage against the Browns, and that created 4 sacks. Defense did play better today, but seemed to fall apart when they went into zone "prevent us from winning" defense on the last drive. But again, even in that situation, the Raiders brought pressure from the front four. IF the DBs played tighter, it wouldn't have been a nail biter.

When was the last time the Raiders had back to back games with a WR over 100+ yards? When was the last time that the Raiders had a QB throw over 300+ yards in back to back games? When was the last time the Raiders had a RB and WR over 100+ yards? Proud of the Raiders! JUST PROVE IT, BABY!

Blogger Pride&Poise said...

Actually Mack was turned away as he stunted inside on that final interception though Chris Simms insisted that he caused the QB to rush his throw. Just re-watched the game and the corner back in coverage on that last play was playing zone with Woodson protecting over the top. I just watched Cleveland's coach say the wish the QB had opted for the TE on the seam route. The cornerback in question (I didn't see his #) left Benjamin to cover the TE.
Watch if for yourself on NFL rewind if you'd like.

Carr fell in McKenzie's lap. It's that simple, and impossible to refute. If McKenzie had any clue that Carr could be a franchise QB, he would have selected him Round 1, especially after fumbling the QB position so many times. McKenzie GOT LUCKY!

Does anyone else find it unusual that McKenzie reaches for players like Hayden in RD 1 and Watson and Edwards in RD 2, but doesn't think to take a franchise QB in RD 1, leaving him exposed for 31 other teams to draft him before Raiders pick again in RD 2?

Raiders are extremely lucky to have both Mack and Carr on their team. Case closed!

Blogger Pride&Poise said...

4 teams passed on Mack, 35 passed on Carr. QB needy Cleveland 3 times and Houston twice. Both are now in Oakland spearheading a revival along with Cooper who 3 teams also chose to pass on.
Those 3 picks, along with the hiring of Del Rio and his staff, are putting up W's where all we saw before were losses.
Lucky or not We're Back!
I raise my glass high in hope that a few more HOF picks fall into Reggie's lap.

The Raiders were scouting Carr heavily before the draft, a guy who drops to the 2nd round is not a "fall in your lap" pick. You are just too dumb to know this. To get a franchise QB, he has to be available, there were no franchise QB's available, until Carr.

Yeah, McKenzie sure gets lucky a lot, huh? You are extremely lucky that real Raider fans don't get a hold of you, your pussy would get booted up to your throat.

Fuck you and your pussy

HOF picks is that you Jones?

Anyone who takes the time to comment on RT's blog obviously is happy about the Raiders being 2-1. It's great to wake up on a Monday and be able to enjoy reading the sports section.

That being said before we anoint Reggie the next Ron Wolf and ready Carr's bust for Canton let's see them beat a team with a winning record, win a division game things that will really measure if they are competitive again or whether this is fools gold. It was only two weeks ago they were blown out by Cinci.

Until that time I am no fan of Reggie the guy who shit all over Al Davis for 3 years to cover his own ineptitude of Flynn, Hayden, Schaub, Watson, etc.

In the words of Charles Woodson:

"We're only 2-1. Nobody can sit back at this point and say we've arrived. We've got a long way to go."

This coming from the guy who played immediately following a shoulder separation. I'll take his word for it. Carr suggested Canton may already have Woodson's jacket size. If he's not first ballot, they should burn the place down.

It's called cannabis oil, hemp oil is bought in alternative medicine shops.

The other GM's didn't pick Carr, so how could it be luck?

Gm never "shit all over Al Davis", Al Davis put the org in a very poor position and it had to be cleaned up. I think the new Owner and GM are doing a good job of cleaning it up. Still more to go, but it's getting closer and it's all that can be asked, case closed.

Jones,

I give Marc Davis zero credit he is one of the weakest owner's in the nfl. He embarrasses the team.

On many occasions Reggie publicly deplored the mess the team was in. He went way overboard considering the record was 8-8 so though salary cap was a mess and not a lot of youngsters it was not hell.

Even if you don't agree with what I just wrote you have to admit Reggie kept talking about it well into year two and even year three of his regime. To continue to use it as an excuse and by defacto denigrate the memory of Al was wrong. As someone who has been a Raider fan for 40 years I found that particularly distasteful.

On the team bottom line QB is the most important position in pro sports. If Carr keeps playing like the last two games it will be the best thing to happen to the Raiders since Gruden and Gannon showed up.

Sandy

Thanks for the correction Jones. It's wasn't meant as a dig...you just seem angry right now at least on this site. I visit from time to time rarely commenting. But I think we all can feel a change in the "air" this hasn't happen to me since Gruden. I always had hope but true change was something that I hadn't felt. Even With Campbell or Palmer I never felt that they were the long term answer. I definitely can say now that things don't seem different and a few fortunate breaks for us is definitely needed.

Usually I just browse and read the comments which have been overwhelmingly depressing for the last 10 years or more. What I've come to realize is that the people who participate regularly on this forum and completely entrenched and tied to the statements they've been making over the length of this Raider drought.
Supported or opposed a coach, player, GM, decision, whatever.
As a Raider fan I don't care how many mistakes were made in the past or even who made them.
The NFL product the Raiders have put on the field the last two weeks is one worthy of supporting and certainly worth watching. It wasn't until recently, after watching this years team, that I realized how hopeless and pointless my optimism has been over the last decade and then some and I somehow managed to support and encourage those Ragedy Fucking Raider Teams.
This particular team has plenty of weaknesses but the opposition will take them lightly at their own peril. This crew is young and there will be growing pains but are we are already, today, in possession of some impressive Fire Power on offense and posess the foundations for elite performance on both sides of the ball.
Wild Card? Division Tittle?
TBD but I honestly feel today that it's now a question of when not if!
As a True Raider Fan I am more than Happy to Ride with this Squad,
So dispense with all the Fucking grumbling, the Oakland Raiders are about to reintroduce themselves to the NFL in a major way.

Have a long history here. That hatchet will never be buried, just the way it is.

All the FIRE REGGIE crowd sure have changed their tune. And if anyone is still calling for his head, you don't deserve to be a Raider fan, just the way I feel.

The Org has done a complete 180 from where it was. And anyone who still defends what it was, you don't deserve to enjoy what is coming.

Nope, all the jerks who cried and spewed the same old talking points, even after they had been explained with facts and solid reasoning, nope they wanted to be an asshole because it made them feel like they knew better..... they didn't... and where are they now? Same as the old players they said were good enough and should have kept their scholarships with the Raiders = out of the league/ off the board, case closed.

You should be embarrassed that your definition of a good team has become barley beating Cleveland. Perhaps you should wait to gloat when they make the playoffs. Last checked that is how you define success in the nfl. Anything short of that who cares.

Players are still talking about changing the culture.

Only now they are talking about changing the losing culture that McKenzie set for them with Dennis Allen, Jason Tarver, Greg Knapp, Greg Olsen, Tony Sparano, el at.

These players are too young to know or reference earlier Raiders.

If the Raiders can sustain some success, we can thank Jack Del Rio for turning the culture around.

GO RAIDERS!

Pride....This is true. But believe me, I am ready to eat my words. Just want to win !!!!!!!!

NYR...There are a lot of things to get on Reggie about. But can't really fault him for taking Mack 1 and Carr 2. I think if he takes Carr 1, no way is Mack around at 2nd pick. Can't argue with success.

Jones...You give Mark Davis zero credit?...But I believe MD insisted on hiring JDR. Got to give him some credit there. At least so far.

double zero.....when did I give him zero credit? Mark was part of the process of hiring a HC, big deal.

Ano jerk.....I never said they were the definition of a good team. I said they are much better today than they have been in a long time and it's still moving forward. Unlike before at 8-8 when the team had peaked and the roster/team/org had to be redone. The Org is in much better shape then it's been in YEARS and we all know who to thank for that, or do we?

Every other GM in the league passed on Carr, how is that luck?

Retards are you

7:51 AM
Blogger nyraider said...

How is it not luck? Do you honestly believe that McKenzie knew 31 other teams would not take Carr? Cause that's essentially what you're saying.

Media had reported that Mark Davis wanted to select Carr with the Raiders first round pick. But McKenzie passed on what may turn out to be their franchise QB.

Phew! Got away with one there.... aka Luck! Get over it.

8:16 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Media reported...like that is worth ANYTHING.

McKenzie got both Mack and Carr/1,2, that isn't luck, that is being a good GM.

Why aren't you calling for all the other GM's to be fired because they all passed on Carr? I guess it only applies when it comes to Reggie, huh? How bout the GM that picked Clowney? FIRED, Or Bortles, FIRED, or anyone else in the 1st round who didn't take Carr = FIRED. Because as we all know, the dork on here knows better than all the GM's in the league. That's why he is the dolt on a fringe Raider site and not a GM, because he is just so ahead of the GM curve, get over yourself, you pinheaded asshole.
