Preseason Action

The first half of the first preseason game is nearly over, and Schaub is 3 for 7 and Carr is 4 for 7 with a pick. Zero points. Nowhere to go but up...Bang it here with your Raiders v. Vikings takes.

I'm now steeling my heart for a bad season. Again, it seemed as if the refs called the Raiders on everything but only called the most egregious of fouls for Vikings. There were at least one PI that should've been called but wasn't.

And these guys aren't good enough to dig themselves out of the hole they dug.

Chekwa and Burnett impressed. As did McGloin.

Have got to do better than 3 and outs on offense. It's only first preseason game, and I'm not hitting the panic button. But the offense has to show something the next 3 preseason games, or yes, it will be another long season.

Is there any difference between Porter and Jenkins vs Brown and Rogers probably not its just Reggie replacing two stop gaps for another two stop gaps. Both of these guys are low priced veterans in their final go around and will be gone next year or soon after. Just another example of no foundation of young players being put in place for the long term. Like Penn for Veldheer and Tuck for Houston. Reggie's signing this year are a desperate attempt to get to mediocrity and save his job. I would rather the Raiders do awful get rid of Allena nd McKenzie bring in real management and get a chance at another franchise player like Mack potentially versus get mired in mediocrity with no playoff chance for the next couple of years

and Schaub is not the answer he is further down the road than Palmer. It makes me puke when I hear the bs coming out of Allen's mouth how Schaub is a top ten qb in the league that is a friggin joke

Regarding Raiders penalties.

I have been a Raiders fan since 1974. 40 years.

No coach. Not Madden, not Flores. No one between Art Shell and Dennis Allen, including Gruden, has been able to solve the Raiders penalty problems.

Why ? Because it is totally out of their control.

The flags will be flying for whatever reason. Pick any reason you'd like.

Try this one. An early message to Mark Davis. Don't mess around with the San Antonio area.

Many flags against the Raiders. Very few flags for their opponents.

The league just cannot break free of their bias against the Raiders. Even after Al Davis has passed.

How else can 40 years of the same old crap be explained ?

I saw the Vikings pull a facemask, no penalties. A couple of PI's no penalties. Even my wife who is a fan of other teams, says the refs are against the Raiders. Unfortunately, a mediocre team can't pull themselves out of the mess.

SCAR

Its just the first game of pre-season. Am I worried this years edition of the Raiders is going to stink again? Yes. Am I hopeful that all the new players at all the new positions need a little more time to gel before they can be a strong team? Uhmmm, Yes?.....Yes.
Are the wide receivers, rb's, and te's going to be able catch the catchable balls this season?? I'm not even talking about the spectacular catches, I'm just talking about your basic "I'm the wide receiver, here comes the football, it's right in my hands,,,,ooops, I dropped it"
I graded the recieving corps(to include the rb's and Te's) a D and if Denarius moore were taken out of this equation they would get an F. Wow, ok, it's just the first preseason game...

That's why Greg Little was available to the Raiders. He has a history of dropping passes, including the obvious, right at 'em pass.

One preseason game isn't enough to judge anything, good or bad.

However, I assume if they continue to come out flat (Matt Schaub will eventually have to convert a first down), things will get shaken up.

Watched the game for the first time on Friday night and felt really discouraged. Watched a good chunk of it again on Sunday (primarily the offense) and came to the conclusion that while it wasn't good by any stretch, it wasn't really as bad as it seemed.

Penalties & Drops man, Penalties & Drops.
(I guess its too early in the year to complain about how until late in the 4th quarter the Vikings had 1 penalty for 5 yards)

Really liked what I saw out of our young defensive players too.

I'm just hoping for some positive vibes on Friday night. This fan base is in desperate need of something to cheer about.

Strong showing for the Raiders in So Cal for a scrimmage with the Cowgirls. The official fan ratio was 3 Raiders fans per 1 Cowgirls fan.

The Raiders showed some spirit too. They kicked some tail yesterday in Oxnard. They took what they wanted, and when they wanted. That is the way they need to play every game. If they can do that, then they will be tough to beat.

It's time they make a name for themselves. It's time to JUST PROVE IT, BABY!

Not for nothing but plenty of teams fell flat in their first preseason game. Giants have played two games, and I think I read that their 1st team offense has yet to complete a pass.

Of course, Rashad Jennings looks like a beast in preseason... just like he clearly outperformed every other Raiders RB last year.

Didn't see last week's game but it looked like the Raiders might come out swinging this week. Looks can be deceiving! Lions O without Megatron having their way.

Both backups QBs throw faster and stare down receivers less than Schaub

-------------------------

Once again, the Scranton Scrapper pulls through. I have been saying all off season, he is the best QB on the roster right now. I have I hopes for Carr, but McGloin should start over Schaub.

All three QBs played fairly well but receivers were dropping balls all night (Schaub was a bit flat again). The one bad miss by Carr might have been nerves. He found the wide open TE and was a bit strong with the throw. Otherwise, he appeared to make some good decisions.

There's something electric about the offense when McGloin is in there. McGloin looked good in the 2-minute offense and won the game.

Matthew Stafford had his way with the Raiders 1st team. Raiders coverage looks scary, with open receivers every play. Coverage seemed too soft early on. Hopefully it's just preseason mode. One thing for sure, Raiders lack depth (maybe even quality starters) at CB.

On a side note, the officiating was horrible (worse than usual). Bad calls, no calls, and bad spots (one spot in favor of the Raiders was a joke).

Khahil Mack is off to a slow start.

HC, DA, says Mack "has to learn".

Meanwhile, Steelers mid 1st round pick, LB Rob Shazier, had 9 tackles, and a sack this weekend.

Shazier was all over the field, looking like a one man defense.

And so I ask once again.

Why do Raiders have to "Wait" for Mack to learn ?

While other players, picked after Mack, are learning fast, and playing fine.

I hope I'm incorrect. But there seems to be something very wrong, still, with the culture in Oakland.

Raider 00, I think it's a bit early, but I hear your point.

Last year, there were several early-round draft pick rookies who made an impact in the NFL, particularly on defense.

Yet here in the land of RaiderWait, with a team in desperate need of a shot in the arm, I kept hearing how it was perfectly logical to spend our first two picks on a CB coming off of a life-threatening injury and an OT who had never played football until 2011.

It was only logical in the land of RaiderWait.

This year, the picks were way more logical. Hopefully, they'll be more effective, too.

The secondary is killing me. We had prime opportunity to get a top notched DB. Whether or not the Raiders reached out to Aqib Talib and others remains to be seen; but the bottom line is they did not sign top-notched secondary (exception of C-Woody).

I saw Nnamdi was in RaiderWaitandSee Land the other day, I wonder if Reggie tried to talk him out of retirement? These next 2 weeks better show me something. These are the next 2 games that should decifer what kind of team we are going to be this season.

I hate how DA says that we had preseason whoa's last year. Yes, we know DA; and we also had a season that showed us nothing. Time to light a fire in the @$$e$ of the players DA! Do your job and coach! JUST PROVE IT, BABY!

RT,

Bergstrom, Haden, Watson, Mack....Just sayin.

Nate75,

Because of rule changes. It going to be a long year for Cb's, & Db's.

Of course, we can expect the Raiders to have the most flags against their Db's, and the fewest flags, against Db's covering Raiders Wr's.

Raider00,
Not too mention flags against any Raider who lightly swats a helmet with their pinky; but no flags to the opposing team for outright illegal blows to the head that we saw with Detroit this last weekend.

The officiating crew in Detroit was just bad... no conspiracy. They handed the Raiders a gift first down with a bad spot on what should have been 4th down.

Somebody made the point above about CBs were not really upgraded by the moves from last year to this year. It appears that might be accurate... so far.

Hadyen needs to get on the field!

Hi Nate...

A little low on faith at the moment...Haven't seen anything to even get my hopes up which is really sad sense I was all kinds of happy after the Draft and "FA"..."LameDuck" just ain't the least bit encouraging...

Outside of football I purchased a 47ft Cutter "CutThroat" and prepping to sail a "West-Pac" mid to late October...Still in Morro Bay but should be sailing for Santa Barbara this next week before making the Hawaii jump...

Good on ya, Panty! I'm still hopeful for the season, because this is just pre-season, and they are not going to show too much. Even Tarver and DA said so the other day that they are just running base formats.

With that said, I expect them to add a little bit the next 2 games in preparation for the season. If it's like this by week 4, I will be calling for DA and Tarver's head.

JUST PROVE IT, BABY!

I’m predicting between 3 and 6 wins again. Continuity is not found by keeping the same losing coach every year while replacing the whole team.

Profootballtalk.com, the “insider” voice of the NFL has been slowing leaking that the NFL is not satisfied with the death of Al, they want the whole Davis family out and the legacy destroyed. They will not be happy until Mark sells the team and are forced to move some landlocked place where they are even justified in changing the team name.

If Mark fires Reggie, be ready for all of the “Mark is interfering just like his father” talk. That started to crank up when all Davis said was that he wanted to see progress.

Panty, you’re on a sailboat now? I used to have an Islander ’36, but I sold her a couple of years ago. What have you got?

No hedging in that post; Raiders to suck for a 12th straight season.

I hope some of you guys that root against the current regime won't be dissappointed if we actually play well this year.
