Exactly my thinking. Sunday's game has gone from solidifying our lead to must win status.

In the Denver game we had 416 yards total offense. Doesn't sound overly limited to me. Bush ran the ball well, alsmost 100 and 5.1 per rush.

The defense in that game gave up plays of 60, 32, 29, 27 and 26. That's five plays for 174. College stuff.

And the special teams gave up a punt return for a TD.

Limited playbook had nothing to do with it. Even my infernal optimism has limits. We've been hearing about the potential of this defense since last season. It's time for the players and coaches to stop talking about how good they CAN be and show how good they ARE.

The offense has plugged in backups and put up 322, 416 and 489.

With the exception of McClain, the front seven has been healthy. That's where the run defense starts and most of the pressure comes from.

The offense has been consistant. The defense has basically been playing .500 ball.

Talent, potential and a buck sixty will get you a coffee at Starbucks, but not much else if that's all you are relying on.

Tebow is 4-1 as a starter. But, take a look at how the defense has played during that stretch. In three of the four wins their defense has given up 15, 10 and 13 points. Even Jamarcus Russell might have been able to win those.

If this team is to win the division and possibly win a playoff game, which I firmly believe they can, the defense can afford zero off days for the forseeable future. And, that future is all the way into February.

Ok. Denver beat the Jets on 11 first downs and 9 completions for 104 net passing yards.

Sure, they had an INT return, but they won on a 20-yard Tebow TD run. They are finding ways to win. That's how Tebow played his entire college career.

IMO, Raiders have no margin for error if they want to win the division.

Yes it was the "D" and the limited amount of playbook for Palmer contributed to our "O" failing in the 2nd half...Bush too...Running the same plays over and over doesn't get it done...

Now we see allot more of the playbook involved in the passing and running game as well...

I know that's directed to Raider Take but here's my 2 cents.

Jackson has brought me hope. I've liked Jackson from Day 1 but didn't really understand nor like the way Cable was removed. In hindsight, making Jackson HC was one of Davis' best last moves.

This is Jackson's rookie season, so I understand the peaks and valleys more than my commentary might let on.

Bringing in Carson Palmer was a bold (Al Davis type) move and it's already paying dividends.

And who saw replacing Groves with Curry? Curry is still a little raw but clearly a smart move by Jackson.

Add to that all the Raiders' young talent and I see this year as just the beginning of a long-awaited turnaround for the Raiders. I'm on board with giving Al Davis credit for that, just as I criticized him for years of what I saw as mismanagement.

This is a fresh new start for the Raiders and its organization.

That's it, where's the beef?... here at Raider Take again and nothing new from you! this is my first post but I've been a Raider fan for 22 years, and been reading Take and the comments for years, and that's why I'm writing... I got so used to reading intelligent fan analysis on your blog whenever there was a Raider move, why so little now? did you get an extra job, fall in love, lose some fingers... there's so much happening with the team, Jackson making bold moves, so many newly recycled faces, possible GM... can we hope? I nearly puked after the Denver game and wanted to read more than just "we suck" commentary(yahoo sports), and yet so few Takes???

That's a 4 point spread...Home field is worth 3...

Their secondary is desecrated!!!...Completely...Even the back-up that was suppose to start is out due to a spousal abuse charge...To the pass they are as vulnerable as it gets and they know it so they are more afraid of "CP3" to Moore than they are of Bush....They can't stack the box and leave that secondary exposed so I look for them to concentrate on 2 things early on...

#1...Bring the heat but do it with only their front 7/6/5....

#2...Play a Nickle or Dime package to help that weak ass secondary...But where do they get the bodies to play it???

So with the Nickle they only have their front 6...Front 5 if they go Dime...That's NOT going to stop Bush from tearing them up...Than "TJ" may get more looks with his speed...

"CP3" can tear them up deep-middle-short...Quick timing pasterns and they got no chance...They have to respect the speed and play deep giving up come back plays like we used against "SD"...Then there's the "TE"s and dump off to Bush/Reece...

In short their "D" will have their hands full...If we can sustain a few long No-Huddle drives they will get gassed...If we can score quickly they will abandon the run and air it out like they had to do against "GB" in a losing effort...

The Vike's "O" is one dimensional...Run...The rookie "QB" ain't getting it done...We will come at him and come hard...We will stack the box and dare them to throw...Than look for mistakes...This is not a running "QB" with a big time "RB"...It just one back that can do allot but not when everything is stacked against him...

The Vikes are ripe for the kill...

They threw something at us that we were ill prepared for...That Option "O"...The "D" was trying to take the "RB" but with the fakes didn't know Tebow had the freaking "Pig"...That's something that works once or twice but not a sustained system...It worked against us that whole 2nd half while at the same time our "O" ran out of plays and their "D" was anticipating well and slowing down the run...Bush's yd/carry was low in the 2nd half...We failed to make the plays and we lost...

That's not the Vikes....Neither are they "KC" and we're not the same team now....

As H points out, Vikings bring far more to the table than some here appear to think.

They have one of the best RBs in football and a solid run defense.

We live and die by the run on both sides of the ball, yet it appears the Vikings are prepared to play to our strengths.

It's no coincidence that Palmer looked so good last week. Bush ran wild and helped make that happen.

A shoot-out with the Vikings could change all that. We will need Bush to stay on target to help balance our attack and keep the D off the field.

Oddsmakers are no dummies. Raiders are favored by only 1 pt. That's sounds about as even as it gets.

That game should have opened everyone's eyes. We're better, but we still have a ways to go.

We're going to need Palmer's and our receiver's best, because the Vikes are 6th best in the league against the run.

When it comes to matchups this is what I see:

We run the ball very well. They defend the run very well.

We don’t defend the run very well. They run the ball very well.

Veldheer is playing well, but he is going up against a guy with 13.5 sacks.

They match up very well against us. That’s why we need a strong game from Palmer and our receivers.

Sounds like the Buffalo and Denver games to me. Buffalo came back on us passing, and Denver running.

Maybe this is the game where Palmer hits his stride and throws for 400 yards and three TD’s with no interceptions. We just may need that type of performance considering the roller coaster defense we’ve seen this year.

OK, the Vikings have not allowed a back to rush for 100 yards this season. Pretty consistant. They have allowed only six in five seasons. They are not just one speed rusher on defense. Their DT's are solid, especially against the run.

Yep, the Geldings did get a bizillion rush yards. We are Jekyll and Hyde with our run defense. The Vikes have Adrian Peterson. They are capable of getting a bizillion yards also.

Five of their six losses prior to Monday have been by 7 or less. Mostly less. Monday was against the defending SB champs who are undefeated.

We should win, but this will be a test. The NFC appears to be stronger this season, so don't just look at their record and say terrible team. The Chefs sure thought the Fish were terrible. We thought the Geldings were terrible and they are 3-1 since Tebow took over. And 3-1 is the bottom line.

I sure would like a blowout. But the odds of it happening are pretty slim. Slim might still be in town, but he is definitely at the bus station.

Chris Cook is not Vikings #1 CB.
On Oct. 25 he was charged with felony domestic assault, after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend. In a statement released by the Vikings Nov. 7, they stated that Cook had been moved back to the 53-man roster (after 2 weeks of suspension), but that he would not practice or play while he was still facing criminal charges.
I think Cook has a Nov. 22 court hearing, so until that (at least) he’s out.

"CP3" should have an opportunity to really light up their secondary this week while Bush/"TJ" demolish them on the ground...

Palmer can win a shoot-out with any team now... even if AP goes crazy... and the defense is capable of shutting teams down. just not consistently.

This team can stick 30 on any team in the NFL IMO.

Its either going to be a Raider blow-out, or they win a shoot out if the run control problem rears its head again.

McKenzie would be a very nice addition to the organization. The Wolf blessing makes this a "no-brainer".

CONSISTENCY ... the word is mentioned quite a bit by the RT crew and Hue Jackson on a regular basis as a goal and for good reason.

This has been an unusual season with a 1st year head coach, the passing of Al Davis, the transition of the organization moving on w/o Al, new QB, additional players being added, key injuries, etc.

In spite of these difficulties, the team is right on the cusp of establishing itself.

In order to do that and take a very important forward step, we need to stack up "W"s, improve our performance at home (2-3), play good run defense regularly, beat all sub .500 teams on the docket, get a few wins vs. tough opponents (Chi, GBay, Det.), and finish the season strong vs. 2 hated divisional rivals (@ KC, vs. SD).

A tough task but it is right in front of this team IF it can manage to become a CONSISTENT performer, week in, week out.

In spite of the Cassel injury, TeBlow at QB for the Donkeys, and a struggling SD team, the AFCW is completely up for grabs.

The Raiders need to seize this opportunity starting this Sunday.
