Bye, Bye Amari

Just as Jakobi Myers was cheerfully discussing his discontent with reporters, this news dropped: Amari Cooper is retiring after signing with the Raiders last week.

You can't make this stuff up. Discuss.

Indeed, you can't make this stuff up, but it's par for the course and other events led by the new regime this off-season, e.g., discarding their top free agents on defense, not drafting Sanders in 7 chances (at least 2-3 jaw-dropping flier opportunities), trading away their only legit CB starter, dumping Wilkins and millions in guarantees for reasons still unclear, unwillingness to extend Meyers (a better WR than they get in the marketplace), then signing and retiring Cooper.

Geez! What's next?!

This stuff follows the Raiders no matter who's in charge. The Raiders thrive on being their own worst enemy.

BTW, the new Raiders' slogan? "Time to Compete." They even took a billboard in Vegas to promote it.

So much for "Just Win, Baby!" and "Commitment to Excellence!" and so many more, but none as uninspiring as "Time to Compete."

That kind of says it all. Whoever came up with that slogan needs to be fired. That's got participation trophy all over it.

I honestly feel bad for Maxx Crosby, who wants nothing more than to play on a great Raiders team. Sorry Maxx!

The word on Cooper is he wasn't even trying in practice, which pretty much sums up his whole career. What is up with 'Bama players in the League? Their players and a few other SEC schools don't show in the NFL, almost like they reached their pinnacle in college. Big 10 players aleays ball on next level.

Lincoln Kennedy said Cooper is "not a good route runner," which is ironic because that was supposed to be his strength out of college. He must be lazy because, apparently, he never spent the time to improve his craft.

If the Raiders are serious about this season (and I don't believe they are), they will sign S Jabrill Peppers off waivers from the Pats. Peppers is a starter. There's already been talk about moving Chinn to slot CB. Raiders had success signing Jack Jones from the Pats two years ago. This could be a repeat of that. Peppers is an immediate upgrade to the Raiders secondary and would demonstrate some level of seriousness and commitment to 2025.

And the thing with Meyers is growing in media attention. Meyers could walk out and cripple the Raiders at WR. But he's going to play, and the Raiders plan to take full advantage. It's a really crappy situation for the player and the club. Raiders need Meyers beyond this year, they just don't get it.
